Sabres & NHL 2017-18 - Entry Draft on June 22
BillsFan4 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Off the Wall Archives
im starting to do a dangerous thing... dream about Dahlin in a Sabres jersey. Please hockey gods, let Buffalo win the draft lottery! Remember to pick your jaw up off the floor after watching these highlights... lol -
Not at all. Buffalo is in a much better position to land one of the top QBs in the draft than New England is. Both of our 1st round picks are higher than the Pats (one is much higher). If it's true the Bills couldn't get a team to fall back to #21 and #22, then the Pats are going to have even more trouble getting a team to fall back to #23 and #31... Plus we have more draft capital in general. I don't see much possibility that they could beat out the Bills in a trade up if both teams were actually serious about doing so. I dont see the Patriots actually trying to trade to the top of the draft anyway. If anything maybe they try and trade into the teens somewhere to grab a QB (but chances are they'll just use 1 pick on a QB and groom him like they did Garoppolo).

I'm not sure I'd theyre being groomed to take over, but yes he has 2 sons on his coaching staff. IIRC one coaches safeties and the other is some type of defensive assistant.

Good luck in Houston Joe! Makes sense though. If the Bills carry 3 QBs it will be Mccarron, Peterman and a rookie. And If they do decide to carry 4, it would probably be 2 rookie QBs (one drafted and one undrafted, or maybe they draft 2) plus Aj & Nate. -

Well... we finished last. Again. All there is to do now is wait for the inevitable draft lottery loss. Again. I wish I could say I was happy to have the best shot at Dahlin but This year feels nothing like the Eichel draft year. Chances are high we don't pick 1st or even 2nd. And now we get the added stipulation to be the first ever team to finish 31st... yay... Brutal season. -

Svechnikov would definitely be nice. The top of this draft looks very promising. If we end up in the #2 spot and miss out on Dahlin, it might be hard to pass on a guy like Svechnikov or Zadina (or even Tkachuk). You can't reach for a defenseman just because of need. You have to go Best player available IMO. There are a lot of very enticing defensive prospects in this draft though. Dahlin, Boqvist, Bouchard, Dobson, Hughes could all go top 10-15, with Smith, Merkley, Wilde possibly in the top 15-20 (or at least the 1st round). This looks like a great year to grab a defenseman. I'm sure a few will fall and maybe you can grab one with our top 2 pick in the 2nd, or even trade back up into the 1st. -

I'm not sure how to feel about this game tonight. I want the best odds at Dahlin, but I also hate the stigma that comes with finishing in last place. But even if we finish last last I have about zero faith/hope that they actually win the damn draft lottery. We've been totally screwed by it every year. I don't know if I'll ever get over the McDavid loss (maybe once the Sabres become a good team, if that ever happens...). Dahlin would sure help. I feel like we are due for a draft lottery lottery win though, and the odds did go up this year from 18% to 18.5% (assuming it passes the vote). Still not as good as the Maple Leafs 20% odds in 2016. But the 18.5% last place odds Are better than the 13.5% odds you get as the 2nd last place team... If we lose tonight, last place is locked in. Even if we win in regulation we are still 1 point behind Ottawa. Tonight is probably their last chance at a win for this season though. They play Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Boston... Ultimately, I'll take the best odds at Dahlin. Buffalo could probably use him more than any other team in the NHL. But if we don't get him, Boqvist wouldn't be a bad consolation prize... this looks like a great year to need a defenseman. There are as many as 5 ranked in the top 10 of the draft. -
Bills facing HUGE Clock Management Problem...

This Giovanni Feroce guy sounds like a real piece of work... http://www.providencejournal.com/news/20180320/creditors-swarm-over-feroces-financials-as-former-benrus-ceo-still-plans-run-for-governor There seem to be a LOT of people after this guy. Seems like every business he's owned has ended in him screwing someone over, and/or leaving huge unpaid debts. He didn't even pay the snow removal company he hired to plow his driveway (at his mansion that was also foreclosed upon...lol). -
We really have no idea where most GMs have Allen ranked. The media talking heads are just guessing, or maybe being fed fake information. They are wrong in their QB ranking almost every single year. Allen very well could be ranked #1 or #2 by most GMs, but we simply dont know right now. There is sooooo much misinformation out there at this time of year. And some of the talent evaluators I respect the most (like Daniel Jeremiah for example) have Allen ranked as the #4 QB in this draft. If we draft Allen, I will be on board. There are definitely things to like about his game, and as I've said numerous times on here - his ceiling is sky high. If you hit on him you're set for a decade. But personally, I just see him as a bigger gamble than a guy like Darnold or Rosen.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I'm glad we look to be taking our shot on a QB in this draft as opposed to last year's draft. This is exactly what I wanted last year. I felt it was a weaker QB draft last season compared to this season. I wanted the Bills to wait and take their shot on a QB this year. I am far from sold on Mahomes, and we will see on Watson. He played well in his very limited time starting but let's see what he does when teams start specifically game planning for him. Plus he already has blown out an ACL in both knees now IIRC. That could become an issue for a mobile QB. So, as of now, no I wouldn't trade Tre White and our 1sts this year for Mahomes/Watson. I'm still hoping we can trade those 1sts and move up for Rosen/Darnold - both of which I would easily take over any QB in last year's draft. I'd take Mayfield over Mahomes/Watson too. Daniel Jeremiah (who's very well respected in NFL circles, and who's word I value quite a bit) has 4 of the top 6 QBs of the last 3 years in this draft - Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield, Allen. Watson is rated #7, and Mahomes doesn't even make the list... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000922045/article/top-10-qb-prospects-of-past-3-nfl-draft-classes-darnold-no-1

Chad Forbes info on possible Bills trade up.

He was specifically asked about trading up to pick #7 by whatever reporter asked the question (can't remember who it was). -
If they were targeting Barkley, I don't think they would have traded up to #3 6 weeks before the draft. The Giants very well could take him at 2 and then what? It makes a lot more sense that they are comfortable with any of the top 3/4 QBs (as has been reported to death) and traded up to guarantee they land 1 of them. Also, Todd Bowles said that McCown will enter training camp as the starting QB but that he is not guaranteed to start the season. He said there will be competition for the spot, which is likely why Bridgewater chose to sign there (that, and there wasn't much interest in him. The Jets were his best shot to start next season). Mike Maccagnan has pretty much admitted he's drafting a QB. He said back in January that he was willing to trade up for a quarterback. Then after he made the trade he said he's not scared of taking a swing on another QB. All reports say that Maccagnan targeted this QB class a year ago, and sold Woody Johnson on doing whatever it took to land one of the top 4 QBs, and much of what they've done matches up with this - passing on Mahomes/Watson last year, dumping all those good veteran players this past season (hence all the "Jets are tanking" talk). Theyve been heavily scouting this QB class all year. They've met with all the top QBs multiple times. Maccagnan himself has been attending their pro days. I am 100% positive the Jets take a QB. I'd be willing to bet any sum of money on it.

All I was hoping for from Mittelstadt this season was to look like he belongs, and so far so good. Ive actually been very impressed by him. Most young rookies usually look kind of scared in their first # of games, and even their 1st season in some cases. They will treat the puck like a "hot potato". As soon as it hits their stick, they're looking to get rid of it. You'll also see them shying away from hits, being hesitant to fly into the corners and retrieve the puck and stuff like that. I really haven't seen much of that at all from Mittelstadt. He looks very comfortable on the ice, especially for a 19yr old rookie with no pro experience (I mean, he was playing in High Shool barely over a year ago!). I love the speed he plays with, and how relentless he is attacking the puck and backchecking. Eichel could use some more of that in his game (he would be unstoppable!). His passing and vision has been really impressive as well. Im cautiously optimistic that we got a real good one with him. -
If we were to trade up, when would it happen?
BillsFan4 replied to bills6969's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know the Eagles traded up to #2 around April 20th (about a week before the draft) but by that point everyone kind of already knew that Goff was the Rams guy, so the Eagles felt very comfortable trading to #2 to get their guy Wentz (and they said as much). But the Jets on the other hand.... they seem to have no clue what 2 QBs could be off the board before they pick. Especially since the trade was made 6 weeks out from the draft, before teams even had their visits scheduled with these prospects, or held private workouts etc. I've said all along that I thought their trade to #3 was a reckless move (and most likely made by a guy who is desperate to keep his job). The chances of THREE quarterbacks in this draft being worth the haul of picks the Jets gave up (4 top 49 picks) are pretty slim. The odds are definitely against it. But the Jets seem content to just throw a dart at any one of the top 3 QBs in this draft (which seems kinda crazy to me...) -

Maybe someone can answer this, as I'm not really sure - Has any team ever traded up to the #3 overall pick this far out from the draft before (about 6 weeks) like the Jets just did? I cant remember it happening before but I may just be forgetting...
