McDermott not in Top 10 of NFL coaches per PFF.
Buffalo716 replied to 14774's topic in The Stadium Wall
The coach who took the Cleveland browns to the playoffs.. and after they fired him only went once in 22 years? The coach who stopped the greatest offense in NFL history versus the bills no huddle offense... probably the greatest defensive coordinator of all time with head coaching statistics that will make a grown man cry The guy who took the Patriots to the playoffs with McCorkle Jones... Which is more impressive than most coaches have on their resume -

Awesome will agree to disagree Sean McDermott to me is a tremendous coach If you had to say McDermott or Josh Allen I'm obviously taking Josh Allen cuz he's our general But I'm not throwing Sean McDermott under the bus -

I never said Josh Allen would not have been pretty good.. I said Josh Allen would not be the Josh Allen we know There's been plenty of physically gifted quarterbacks who don't pan out.. in fact Jay Cutler was a 6'3 230 lb monster with a cannon who was trucking linebackers in the SEC I think Josh is more likely that in Chicago.. good not transcendent A transcendent player always needs somebody to tango with.. there's never been a surefire Hall of Fame greatest ever quarterback who didn't have a tremendous coach lol they kind of go hand in hand -

That's like saying Bill belichick gets no credit for developing Tom Brady because he's a defensive guy He absolutely gets partial credit for helping develop Tom Brady and I 100% do not think Tom Brady would be Tom Brady if he got drafted anywhere else besides with belichick Tom Brady left as a 40-year-old man a fully developed professional and won.. I don't think Tom Brady getting any other coach at 22 years old turns him into what he is -

No I don't think if Josh Allen gets drafted to the Chicago bears that he's the same Josh Allen It always takes two to tango in the NFL Tom Brady is not Tom Brady if he doesn't go to Bill belichick at 22 years old You're crazy if you think we draft Tom Brady and he becomes the greatest ever lol No Bill belichick gets credit for helping Misconstruing what I'm saying that he was not a bona fide stud He was not a Peyton Manning level prospect.. he was not an Andrew luck level prospect .. he was a zero star recruit who had immense physical tools who even half of pro scouts didn't think it would ever pan out..people on TV were calling him trash There were plenty of professional scouts who did not think he would be able to fix his flaws.. he was a mystery everybody said he needed to develop Everybody said he had insane potential but he had a lot to learn.. guess what Sean McDermott helped him grow and learn -

Josh Allen was not a surefire Superstar He was one of the most polarizing draft prospects ever.. tons of professional scouts thought he was not good enough for the NFL No Sean McDermott coaching and coming influence with Josh Allen's work ethic made a great team It always takes two to tango -

Josh Allen was nobody high School recruit..... Half of the professional scouts did not think he had what it took... Sean McDermott helped Josh Allen become a superstar Why there's coaches... If you didn't need them players would just play and coach themselves Sean helped develop Josh Allen So when we win the super bowl you should hold your head in shame and never come back here because you and people like you trash him When he is the best thing that's happened in Buffalo in a long time because he came before Josh Allen and helped develop Josh Allen Like if you're giving me an ultimatum Josh or Sean I'm taking Josh.. I'm not dumb enough to think Sean did not help Josh Allen There is no coach who would be on the open market that would be an upgrade to Sean McDermott -

Semantics Nobody ever said through 17 years we didn't have a roster that wasn't good enough to be the last seed in the playoff The difference is Sean McDermott got it done.. difference is Sean McDermott took a kid who half the NFL Network said shouldn't be drafted in the top three rounds Said we were dumb for taking him And Sean McDermott and his steady hand helped turn around a franchise The franchise was in shambles before he got here.. the front office the kitchen at one Bills drive.. Sean McDermott brought respect to every single person at one Bills drive whether you're a coach or making food ... Josh Allen shout it out the mailman at his MVP address! Sean McDermott and his attitude has changed the culture And his calming influenced helped develop Josh Allen.. and countless other players on our roster No the slander on Sean McDermott is disgusting Sean McDermott has forgotten more about football than you will ever know... You can have a team of division 1 stars and Sean McDermott would beat you with division 2 players... He knows more about football than you will ever know -

People will cherry pick Sean McDermott's last five playoff losses And be like oh my God his last five losses he allows 33 points a game Andy Reid is allowing 31.5 points per game allowed in his last five losses in the playoffs with a healthier defense! These Cherry picked stats are stupid -

That's not true.. people literally have created their own statistics Taking his last five losses.. and his points per game in those losses.. and then said his 33.2points per game allowed in his last five losses is the most in NFL history But guess what that was also a lie cuz I looked at Mike McCarthy's last five playoff losses and it's worse Cherry picking his losses you can take the last five playoff losses from every coach and they're all 27+ to 32 points per game You could cherry pick any coaches last five playoff losses and no coach is allowing 22 points per game in a loss lol -

That is the farthest thing from fact Remember going 17 years without playoffs? You remember the roster McDermott took us to the playoffs with? Do you remember that Josh Allen was considered one of the rawest quarterback prospects ever who had a huge bust potential? We took a kid who had a massive chance of flopping and they groomed him Sean McDermott has been there every step of the way he deserves credit for helping mold Josh Allen into player he is.. he is the head coach and around Josh every single day and been a calming study influence He literally took a kid people thought shouldn't be drafted in the top 10 and helped coach him into a superstar -

PFF sucks and he's absolutely a top 5-7 coach Do you remember the roster that he got us to the playoffs with? Charles Clay was our number one pass catching option Preston Brown and Ramon Humber at LBr lol The Sean McDermott slander is disgustingly sad for what he has done with our franchise People act like we lucked into Peyton Manning who was a guarantee basically not to bust lol we literally picked the kid who had the biggest bust potential and they groomed him Sean McDermott 100% gets credit for being a calming influence around Josh Allen And helping him grow.. just like belichick gets credit for helping brady- 483 replies

Sweet and yea Watkins glen is beautiful Honestly all of upstate New York has so much to offer in terms of scenic spots can't go wrong with Watkins Glen But if you're ever up here with your wife and you have a couple days.. I would definitely check out Letchworth because it sounds like it's right up your wife's alley she would be in heaven -

Have you ever been to letchworth ? Pretty sure it's called the Grand canyon of the East and is a spectacular place -
Historically they are tough at home .. Minnesota typically has to win the bulk of their home games to have a solid Big ten season They have a fantastic running back coming back and a three or four starters on the offensive line I think They do have a brand new quarterback and the Walter Payton award winner from the FCS.. obviously takes a lot of talent to do that but going to your first true FBS football game might bring some nerves I definitely would probably take the bulls with the points on the spread and yes I do think there is a chance for an upset Probably a 20% chance but that's better than nothing

Malachi Ervin is a 4* end! I really like the 25 class coming in too... Lembo is a real players coach !

Nobody would ever say he was a top 10 quarterback during his time But he's certainly was good enough to always be a starter on one of 32 NFL teams which doesn't happen often.. because top 10 guys don't leave teams and the bottom guys get replaced and don't get another shot Guys like Mitch trubisky with much more of a pedigree are never going to start 15 more games in their NFL career.. but fitz was good enough to start everywhere he went.. guys like Justin Fields probably have one more year starting and then they'll never be given that chance again.. Fitz had a decade of chances That alone shows underrated even if he wasn't a top 10 guy

There is not a quarterback in the world who has 30,000 yards and 200 touchdowns that is below average lol What he wasn't was a top tier starter.. he absolutely was a low-tier bridge starting quarterback his entire career Which is better than 70% of the NFL... 90 quarterbacks on NFL rosters there's about 22-24 worth a damn who you can start and get some wins Ryan Fitzpatrick was always at the bottom of that 24 but he was always a legitimate bridge starter.. not a throwaway, not a bottom feeder Ryan Fitzpatrick was always a serviceable bridge starter... Every team he went to he always went to the top of the depth chart which is something most NFL quarterbacks cannot say He literally climbed to the top of the depth chart for like four or five NFL teams which is the opposite of not good... He wasn't a game changer which would be correct He was serviceable I would take him over a guy like Anthony Richardson if I needed to win a football game.. Anthony Richardson went top five.. I would take him over a guy like Mitch trubisky who went top five There is a distinction between being an upper tier starter and even being average quality... Even bad teams need a quarterback.. Ryan Fitzpatrick was always the starting quarterback on bad teams typically.. he had maybe one team ever that had playoff aspirations and he had a great season with the Jets and threw an interception on his last drive in Buffalo It doesn't erase his good season
-
You basically hit the nail on the head He was a good quarterback who typically needed a lead at the end of the game If you got the ball back down six with a minute and a half left that's when some of his limitations would come through.. he had some game-winning drives but the majority of times the limitations would show up in that last minute and a half in crunch time situation when the speed is even faster
-
I was told he could not execute shanahan's offense on schedule consistently and his injury set him back He's the type of guy where every single thing is drawn up.. three step drop back foot hits balls out If you can't do that consistently you're not his quarterback He was hoping lance would be able to pick up all the West Coast stuff.. while keeping his playmaking ability but it never came to fruition
-
well he was a gunslinger in the mold of Brett favre who didn't have the same arm talent that's why he's not a Hall of famer I was at that game versus the Jets at home when they needed to beat us to get into the playoffs.. and at the tailgate I was telling all the Jets fans I love Ryan Fitzpatrick but you're going to get Ryan Fitz tragic at the end of the game And low and behold He still was a good quarterback he just didn't have the elite stuff and was too aggressive for his arm strength
-
Yes that is basically what I was getting at Think of football as a language... But the coaches speak three distinct languages Compare that to the Indo-European branch of language... And you have the romance branch, the Germanic branch, and the Hellenic branch They all speak European but they're all different That's West Coast coryell and EP verbiage Now there are some people that run a predominantly West Coast system with the verbiage But even guys like Kyle shanahan incorporate elements of other offenses in his scheme.. it's 2025 football's a hundred years old there's really nothing that has been ran that has not
