McDermott "officially" calling D plays

Yes it's a decent comparison But Bene Benwikere wasn't so much around the LOS as Taron Johnson iirc, he was more of a cover nickel thus his nickname big play Bene -

No I wouldn't call them the same at all, couldn't tell you whether that was due to scheme preference or personnel (likely both) My brother is a panthers fan and we used to watch bills and panthers games together every weekend -

I watched the McDermott defense in Carolina and my impressions: -dline was similarly constructed (lot of combo 1T/3T, in those days Kwaan Short and Lotulelei) and utilized edge guys who could set much like we do - LBs played more downhill w eyes in backfield a lot more but to be fair they had one of the best of all time in Kuechly and Davis in a similar role to Milano who was excellent and way underrated as an NFL player imo. Still saw a fair amount of deep Tampa2 drops from MLB slot -Norman in his prime was probably a better man guy than White but they'd mix his coverages up like they do here -Safeties played more vanilla w fewer rotations pre and post snap because they were playing guys like Tre Boston, back end of McDermott's Bills iteration is far superior which should be no surprise due to much better talent overall the defenses looked similar but certainly not the same -
Correct higher ADOT will correlate w lower catch% (or comp% from QB perspective) however concerns re: Davis' limited route tree, overall physicality, and untimely drops in the #2 role are valid imo

McDermott "officially" calling D plays

This is the point I am trying to make, maybe I'm not making it well If McDermott wants to call a more aggressive defense then by definition Frazier was calling it inadequately -
Sure Give him a POS oline and oh by the way you're going to be the majority of the run game too so basically the entire offense is on your back but you BETTER SLIDE give me a break w this

I tend to be optimistic too But I'm now leaning skeptical of McDermott and this does nothing to alleviate that -

I wouldn't have minded promoting someone from inside and I wouldnt have minded him hiring on the open market. My preference has been that he continue focusing on head coach responsibilities. -

You said it right here in the above lol Somehow McDermott allowed Frazier to run a defense he knew to be inadequate for 5 years. I'm not buying that sorry -

So this whole time he actually wanted to be running a different defense? He should have said something😂😂😂we'd be swimming in SB trophies -

You appear to have a lot more confidence in McDermott than I do, yet you're willing to admit that he left a guy who was calling his defense inadequately at the job for 5 years? That's a tough sell imo. -

So Frazier, running McDermott's defense and being the perfect guy to call plays ultimately failed, yes? Washington in charge of DL has failed in your estimation. Now McDermott, despite being the architect of this entire operation, is suddenly putting his foot down and going to call the right plays that the guys before weren't? -

I'd rather they hire a DC and let him call the defense -

Focus on head coaching before you start trying to take DC responsibilities on as well This is not a good idea imo- 255 replies
