It's not as hard to win in the NFL when you only need to average 17 points a week because your defense is so good. The defense is the reason we're 10-4 right now. #3 in yards and #2 in points. Anyone who can't admit that isn't watching the games. They're all great. They all run circles around Brady, Montana, Brees and Manning, who are the best QBs in NFL history. Now do Josh Freeman, Blaine Gabbert, Tim Tebow, Akili Smith, Vince Young, Jake Locker, EJ Manuel, Mitch Trubisky, Paxton Lynch, Marcus Mariota, Blake Bortles, Robert Griffin, Jamarcus Russel, Jay Cutler, Jason Campbell, JP Losman, Kyle Boller, David Carr, etc, etc, etc.

So do I. As I said yesterday though, only someone who completely lacks objectivity would think the defense hasn't overwhelmingly been responsible for our wins. Our offense and passing game by any metric you can look at is bottom 10 in the NFL. Our defense on the other hand is truly exceptional. Them allowing under 16 points per game is the overwhelming reason we're 10-4 right now.

I don't think throwing the ball more is what we should be trying to do.

I don't think Cooper adds a new dimension to the offense. I also don't want to pay a receiver more than $15 mil/year when we throw the ball so little. I want someone with size who can add a dimension to our vertical passing game and in the red zone. A rookie 1st rounder and another rookie from like the 5th round would be nice. There are 20 receivers currently in CBS's top 100 players. I've read other scouts on Twitter day they have as many as 25 receivers in their top 100. With so much talent, 3rd round guys are going to be available in the 5th round as teams prioritize positions with less talent.

This is the best WR draft class in ages. I'd prefer to draft a couple guys, one early and one late to add talent to the WR room.

Re sign Phillips and Lawson. I'd consider throwing a bunch of money at a top corner to pair with White. Then I'd begin considering extensions for guys like Milano and even Tre White.

Football is a team sport. I think anyone who is objectively watching these games knows the defense has been carrying the offense all season. I mean, if Josh Allen was playing on a team with the 20th ranked defense instead of the 2nd ranked defense, his W/L record would be an entirely different story. He's doing enough and we're winning, and he's doing what needs to be done late in games, but let's not pretend that he or this offense are actually "good". We're very limited offensively (22nd in points per game). Hopefully we have another good draft and a productive free agency period and the offense can get into the top half of the league next year. If that happens we'll be Super Bowl contenders next season if the defense remains intact.

Josh Allen - week FIFTEEN report card

We need a young WR with size, and maybe some more vet competition on the OL. Otherwise I think we should keep building out the defense and make that unit the best in the NFL. -

There are ways to throw incomplete passes without grounding the ball. Just throw it into the ground relatively close to your receiver and live to fight another day. Tom Brady has done this his whole career. -
I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would think Meyer would make a good NFL head coach. Meyer, like most great college coaches, is a recruiter. He's never been an Xs and Os guy and has mostly relied on having better players than pretty much everyone he faces. In the NFL where everyone operates under the same cap, I think he'd be a complete train wreck.

Allen wasn't very good but he made a few good throws when it mattered. The fumbles and his propensity to take sacks on the cusp of field goal range need to get corrected. There must have been like 6-7 times this season when we had a 1st down somewhere between the 35-40 yard line in opposition territory, and he takes a drive killing 10 yard sack. He needs to learn to throw the ball away.
