5th Year Option Pick Ups
jrober38 replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We could tag him for a year and try to negotiate a long term deal. It's not like we're short on cap space. I disagree. The odds of signing a top pass rusher aren't good. I think we're on to something rolling so many fresh bodies out there against the same 5 linemen for 60 minutes. I'd love to find someone better, I just don't think that's likely. Plus Lawson is only 25 years old. He could easily be productive for another 5 years so I think it's a low risk proposition. I'd rather not rebuild any part of the #3 defense in the NFL. Keep as many people intact as possible and keep adding through the draft and free agency. We have $90 mil in cap space. Money isn't a problem. I think bringing back Lawson and Phillips are major things we need to get done this offseason. Our defense is elite and needs to be kept intact. -
Neither can I. I mean, he ran 4.72 at the combine. Guys with that type of speed typically don't make it in the NFL.

5th Year Option Pick Ups

White is a no brainer. We didn't pick up Shaq Lawson, and at this point I think we really need to bring him back next year. -
He first played for the Chiefs 23 years ago. Has there been anyone since?

I agree, a veteran receiver probably wouldn't want to go there, but I think we'll all underestimate how much NFL players would want to go play with the reigning MVP in an offense that scores as many points as they do. The guys they'd attract would be the type of high character guys that you'd want your team to go after. High maintenance divas wouldn't want anything to do with it, but I don't think those are the type of guys who help you win games anyways.

The one on the goal line last week I think he pulled it out, ran right and then sort of pitched it to the tight end when the defender committed to him. Every play there seems to be an option of some sort, if not two. It's a really fun offense to watch. Crazy that this was our OC a few years ago that so many people said was a liability.

Last week I was shocked at how essentially every pass they attempted was withing 7-8 yards of the LOS. It's all RPOs with him pulling the ball out and throwing to a wide open guy 5 yards downfield and them falling forward for a first down. Earlier this year they had the splash plays, but now their offense is just a machine. They just churn out yardage play after play and dominate the TOP.

Agreed. With that said they have a process. They rely on their data and Hodges ability to complete the occasional deep ball probably makes him look a lot better from an analytical sense. His YPA is amazing and his QB Rating is very good. It's a small sample size, but for guys who only look at numbers it's understandable why they'd think highly of Hodges and why they don't think much of Allen.

Has their been a CFL receiver from the last 10-15 years who has been productive in the NFL?

I understand why PFF would be skeptical of Allen, but it's hard to believe anyone actually thinks Hodges is the better player.
