I think Newton is a good comparison to Allen. Both big, strong, mobile QBs. Newton ran more early in his career, but they both shared a physical running style that resulted in them absorbing a ton of big hits both in and out of the pocket. Newton was never a very efficient passer either. I think Newton's play has declined because his body has broken down. Hopefully the same doesn't happen to Allen. What about Russell Wilson? Why ignore the success and longevity he's had?

Bills not Browns breakout team of the year
jrober38 replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Browns are a dumpster fire. The Bills are slowly establishing themselves as a premier team under Pegula. They have a high end Head Coach and a high end GM, and boat loads of cap space. We seem to be set up for long term success, unlike the Browns. -
Should I add you to the list? Are you another who wouldn't trade away Josh Allen for Lamar Jackson? I didn't misrepresent anything. You seem to think Allen is a better player than Lamar Jackson and have gone to great lengths to make up excuses for why you think that's true. Jackson is a better passer and a better runner than Allen. It makes zero sense to think we wouldn't be scoring more points with a better QB under centre.

I assume he'll be a top 10 pick. He'd be great but I don't love the idea of trading numerous picks away to get into the top 10 when there will be so many good receivers available later in the draft.

Of course you would think that, BECAUSE YOU'RE A JOSH ALLEN HOMER. You go to extreme lengths to justify Allen doing a good job, even if it means slandering the NFL's offensive MVP this year. The Bills literally use Josh Allen as our goal line running back and have used him on designed QB runs numerous times this season, but we're not playing to his strengths. Gimme a break. You think Josh Allen is a better player than Lamar Jackson. Lunacy. @CincyBillsFan this is what I was talking about yesterday. Weak. I argue with someone who wants to claim Josh Allen is better than the supposed NFL MVP and your response is for me to go cheer for another team? No thanks. Would you trade Josh Allen for Lamar Jackson? Apparently that's a serious question.

As I said, the dumbest thing I've read in a long time. To think we wouldn't play to Jackson's strengths if we had him is hilarious. To think he's not a clear cut upgrade over Josh Allen is beyond hysterical. He'd make everyone in our offense better, because he's an elite quarterback. He's a better thrower and he's a better runner, and neither are close.

This is maybe the dumbest thing I've read on this board in a long time. It is a perfect example of the rampant homerism some people have on this board when defending Josh Allen. To suggest that Lamar Jackson, the front runner for MVP, wouldn't be able to replicate what Josh Allen, who is in the bottom 10 of most QB stat categories, is beyond absurd.

If they clean house, they should clean house. Tear it down for draft picks, be really freaking awful in 2020 and go after Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields in 2021. That seems like a no brainer to me. They'll be able to get a haul of picks for Ryan and Jones.

He doesn't. It's probably a 2 year band aide, but he'd give us a really good look at Allen and give us arguably the best WR group in the NFL. Jones, Brown and Beasley on the outside, with Singletary and Knox, the supporting cast will be there to support what should be a top 10 NFL QB. I'd still grab another receiver in the mid rounds, too. If we stick to the draft, Tee Higgins or Justin Jefferson are the big deep threat targets we should be trading up for.

The pipe dream would be Julio Jones. Otherwise I'm cool with the draft. We want instant gratification, but having someone who can develop with Allen for the next 5+ years seems like the ideal situation. Julio Jones is the only guy who I think could be available who represents little risk and huge upside. He'll be on the wrong side of 30, but he's a really high character guy who would slide into our locker room and immediately upgrade the biggest hole we have on the roster.

Fair enough, I guess I just don't see it happening. I think our competitive advantage over the last two years has been signing guys to prove it contracts and them grossly outperforming their deals. We appear to be a move or two ahead of most of the league in free agency, signing the guys no one else wants while other teams overspend resources on names who don't actually help them win games. I see us giving out a whole bunch of money to the guys who helped us make the playoffs twice in three years, and then signing another crop of Frank Gore, Kevin Johnson, Jon Feliciano, Ty Nsekhe, Tyler Kroft, etc.
