  1. What about Cordy Glenn? He was the first decent LT we had since Peters left. Edit: Oops, just reread the OP. My bad.
  2. I didn't watch enough CFB this year to develop any strong biases, but here are some of my choices from yesteryear: 2011: No to Von Miller; I was still haunted by the ghost of Maybin. I was pretty psyched when the news broke that Dareus would be ours for the taking 2012: No to Mark Barron. I was relieved when the Bucs picked him, but was soon yelling "Noooo" at the TV when the Panthers picked Kuechly just before us. Would Kuechly have been a Bill if he was still there? 2013: The year of the non-franchise QB. I remember hearing that Nix was high on Mike Glennon, which made him a firm pass for me. Funny that he turned out to be the best of the bunch, though that's not saying much. Say what you will about Buddy, but he knew a mediocre/poor QB when he saw one 2014: Feeling anti-Ebron, due to his alleged disinterest in blocking, rings a bell 2015: No 1st round pick; don't remember 2016: Reggie "Would've been a top 10 pick in the '90s" Ragland. At least we waited until the 2nd, though it did cost us a couple of 4ths. Watching the Seahawks take Jarran Reed with our #49 pick just twisted the knife. I also wanted no part of Cardale Jones. That was a pretty rough draft for me 2017: Chad "don't care who your uncle is" Kelly 2018: Wasn't interested in trading up for Allen; I thought he was too big of a risk for a top 10 pick. I hope to be wrong about that. I wouldn't say I was anti-Edmunds, but I was disappointed when they took him over Vander Esch
  3. Peters resented getting paid ~half of what Dockery & Walker were making, and I think the Bills expected too much loyalty from him. It's a business. Knowing that Russ Brandon was our GM, I don't believe for a second that this was all on Peters. Players are motivated by $ and winning, and it was clear Peters wasn't getting either of those in Buffalo.
  4. He wouldn't be $2M poorer; he'd be guaranteed $25M for the 2019 season instead of $20M. If a team traded for him & he didn't want to be there, he'd be free to sign elsewhere in 2020 (unless his new team is allowed to tag him again, in which case he'd be banking another $30M+). Foles & the Eagles seem to have a strong relationship, so I would think they'd work out an arrangement where he isn't playing for a crap team, but he also isn't facing the Eagles 2x a year for NJ or Washington.
  5. Between overthecap and Ian Rapoport, somebody's mistaken: As far as the mechanism, the Eagles have options. They can tag Foles and trade him, as the Dolphins did with Jarvis Landry last year. They can also exercise his $20 million option, which would lead Foles to buy back his freedom for $2 million, which may lead Philly to tag him anyway. In the end, a tag may be the best option. Either way, while Foles is due a large pay increase after the way he's performed the past two seasons, it does seem the Eagles will be able to get paid on him, as well. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001008250/article/nick-foles-expected-to-be-in-demand-this-offseason
  6. I was going with the assumption that his final year will be voided, then they'll tag & trade him. If his final year isn't voided, then he's under contract & can be traded without any need for the tag.
  7. That $13M over the cap includes Foles' $20M, so it's not quite that bad.
  8. They have to be under the cap sometime in early March. Not sure of the logistics, but the Eagles strike me as a team who would find a way to make it work.
  9. It's expected that the Eagles will tag & trade him.
  10. The Chargers were the first team to face Jackson twice as starting QB. It was fun while it lasted.
  11. I think there's plenty of evidence that Whaley was incompetent. A few examples: Lobbying for EJ to start in 2016, before we were eliminated from the playoffs Trading up for Sammy Watkins, then saying there wasn't much of a difference in how they ranked Sammy compared to other first round WRs Trading a 2014 5th to the Bucs for a 2014 7th + a 2015 5th. Small potatoes, but it was horrible value. Seriously, what is the point of a move like that? "Stealing" Charles Clay away from the Dolphins. We'll be paying $4.5mm this year for him to not be here $13.6mm we paid for Dareus not to be here in 2018 Rex Ryan: "National Brand", "finding the person you're going to marry", "completing each other's sentences". Many will say that Doug didn't want Rex. If that's true, I'd say he went way beyond the company line with all that nonsense. Also, the once popular argument that Doug really wanted Hue Jackson doesn't sound so good anymore
  12. I think you're probably right as to why he was fired, but Mularkey was definitely fired. "In fact, we did discuss extending his future with our team over the past week, but in those discussions about the direction of the team, it became evident that we saw different paths to achieve greater success." https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/titans-and-mike-mularkey-are-reportedly-parting-ways-hours-after-talk-of-new-contract/ I don't know how good of a Head Coach Mularkey actually is, but as our playoff drought got up there in years, I came to respect him as having been the first guy to sound the alarm that things were going in the wrong direction for us. In his recent stint with the Titans, he took a formerly 3-13 team (though he was HC for 9 of those games) to 9-7, two years in a row. Beating the Chiefs in the playoffs was a big deal, and I believe there were a couple of questionable calls that helped the Pats advance. He'll probably never get another shot at HC, and maybe that's just as unfair as anything else being discussed in this thread. Then again, we should all be so unfortunate.
  13. And then he was fired this past offseason after getting the Titans to the playoffs for the first time in 9 years, beating the Chiefs & losing to the eventual AFC champ Pats. I guess it finally caught up with him.
  14. Good luck to the Bucs in finding a good HC who wants to be tied to Crab Legs Winston.
  15. Green is a great player, but I don't have faith in him staying healthy anymore & would rather use the picks. I wouldn't mind signing Golden Tate and/or John Brown, who was having a (re)breakout season until Flacco went down. Geronimo Allison is another guy who was off to a hot start until he got hurt, though I believe he's a restricted free agent.
  16. This cracked me up: Speaking following Sunday's loss, EVP Tom Coughlin called an inactive Fournette "selfish" for apparently sitting on the bench the wrong way. Dec 30 - 11:03 PM Source: Associated Press
  17. That was 8 years ago, in the Not For Long. More recently, he had skill position players like Lacy and Richard Rodgers hovering around 300 lbs; they didn't have enough of a weight problem to deal with it during the season, but it was worth blasting them to the press after the season. One might say his team was only hungry off the field. If you watched a few Packers games this year, you saw a lot of Aaron Rodgers standing around, waiting for WRs who never got open. McCarthy reminds me of Rex Ryan, both having shown an inability or unwillingness to update their once cutting-edge designs to keep pace with the rest of the league. I hope they're both coaching in the AFC next year.
  18. I think McCarthy's teams seriously underachieved considering the amount of talent they had over the years (maybe not so much this year, but still). IMO, the Browns would be better off sticking with what they have.
  19. Ha, where were you when I needed someone to talk me out of this? ?
  20. First off, happy Thanksgiving to all! Call me crazy, but I have a feeling Michael Gallup goes off against the Redskins tomorrow. As you all know, his brother committed suicide last week. Gallup missed time to be with his family & was questionable for the Thanksgiving game, but he practiced today & will play. He'll be looking to take his mind off of his loss, and the Cowboys said they'll do everything they can to support him during this difficult time. What better way to satisfy both than to pepper Gallup with turkey day targets? Here are the weekly stats for #2 WRs vs the 'Skins going back to their week 4 bye: (REC-YDS-TDs) K Coutee 5-77-0 C Godwin 7-103-0 C Ridley 6-71-1 S Shepard 4-34-0 M Gallup 3-81-1 Torrey Smith 5-43-1 TreQuan Smith 3-111-2 On the low end, you could probably do worse with your #3 WR or flex. On the high end, it has the makings of the feel good holiday football story of the year.
  21. Not that he's done anything since to make them regret it, but I thought Greg Schiano should've been given a 3rd year in Tampa Bay.
