  1. @ExWNYer @Gugny @Another Fan Just found out that with the larger bases first base will be 3" closer to home plate. That will translate to more infield hits and fewer double plays.
  2. @Another Fan @Gugny Late to the party but I was the opposite with Franco and Leiter. I never really warmed up to Franco - didn't like having a closer nibbling at the corners trying to get batters to chase. With that said my lasting memory of Franco was Bonds chasing one out of the zone to end a playoff game. I always liked Leiter, he was a battler. The other guy I liked a lot from that time was Rick Reed. For a short period of time he was a very very good starter.
  3. Sticking with fish: Catch a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.
  4. A-billions of birdies squawkin' out loud Talkin' in code to clams in the clouds They send a secret message; they send it by worm So vibratin' spiders will receive the word But that's totally Feather pluckn' insane Ten million monkeys all pick up guitar But nobody taught them how Five thousand fishies rockin' really, really, really hard Nobody taught them how Check out chickie drivin' piggy's little blue car Nobody taught him how
  5. This is 100% juvenile - and not a knock on him or his music - but I'll never get out of my head the time my friend called him John Cougar Menstrual Camp.
  6. I usually post songs/bands that I know and love. Today I came across a song I never heard before from Stephen Stills. Reminds me of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.
  7. Going from memory a quote from Ralph's best friend: When the tides of life are against you and the current upsets your boat - don't waste your time on what might have been, just lay on your back and float.
  8. That's the right way to do Alaska imo. I was fortunate to do a week on land and then the week long cruise. It was great, but even two weeks wasn't long enough. Not sure if I'll ever get to Australia but my guess is it would need to be a minimum of two weeks too.
  9. Is it you again outside Just banging on the front door? You say you had enough Now you're comin' back for more But that's alright I said that, "That's alright" I may not want to admit it I'm just a fool for your stockings I believe
  10. Great lists! I've been fortunate enough to check off a number of the things on your travel list - I'd put the Alaska cruise at the top. No check marks for your sports list - Kentucky Derby and SEC football game are great ones - for the SEC game I'd go with the Florida/Georgia Outdoor Cocktail Party. Ironically I strongly considered the NCAA lacrosse final four last year. Ironic because before last year I had never watched a lacrosse game at any level - but my eldest goes to UMD and the final four wasn't far from home. "Enjoy every day as if it is my last" - can't think of any better words to live by.
  11. There's no point in asking, you'll get no reply Oh just remember I don't decide I got no reason it's all too much You'll always find us Out to lunch Oh we're so pretty Oh so pretty We're vacant
  12. ...unknown to me
  13. Heavyweight contender Gerry Cooney grew up a couple of blocks from me but he's a few years older. I can remember him visiting the high school leading up to one of his title fights. And I was in the same college graduation class as NHL Hall of Famer Adam Oates. A few other players had lesser success in the NHL including Sabres goalie Darren Puppa. I remember crossing paths with him once in an administration building and overheard someone tell him to make sure to let them know if he needed anything. Not sure why, but I didn't get a similar offer from the staff.
  14. My only beef was he had a tendency to beat a dead horse. In the 8th inning he'd still be harping on something from the 2nd inning. And it was worse when I didn't agree with what he was harping on. But overall he was outstanding, I'd probably rank him as the best baseball analyst I ever heard.
  15. Office Space?
  16. Domestic travel: Monumental Valley and Antelope Canyon - had a great trip planned including stops at both that got scuttled by Covid and that's gonna bug me until I get there. A bonus would be a side trip to The Wave, but that's unlikely. Overseas travel: Australia and Spain Sports: Army-Navy football game
  17. Porcupine Tree and Robert Fripp is probably not everyone's cuppa tea 😀 ! Works for me, maybe others.
  18. She gonna look pretty smart if he's leaving? Don't know her but my guess is it's a wash either way.
  19. Hello, says my shaky voice, well, how are you doing I start to stutter Ah, can't you tell I'm doing fine It was my baby talking, she's way down across the border She says, I'm going to hurry to you, I've been a fool And I'm tired of crying Yeah, a long, long, long, hot summer night As far as my eyes could see (as far, as far as I could see) But I can feel the heat coming on as my baby's getting closer
  20. McCarver was a solid player for many years. Played in an era that catchers didn't hit much (except for Bench), but he was a pretty good hitter all the same. I don't remember him being great (or bad for that matter) at throwing out runners but I'm pretty sure he was well respected as a catcher. Had a strong connection/history with HOFer Steve Carlton. As an announcer I think he made his name with the Mets. First guy I can remember that was hyper analytical and not afraid to be critical. I learned a lot listening to him. He also p!ssed people off as a result. Had public disagreements with Mets manager Davey Johnson and more famously with Deion Sanders which culminated in an on air incident in a Braves post season locker room celebration. And yeah, Bo Derek thought he'd make a great leading man in a movie. A life well led. RIP.
  21. RIP. I learned a lot about baseball listening to him as an announcer. Fun fact: Bo Derek once wanted Tim to play a role in a movie opposite her. (brief mention here)
  22. A few years back Bozzio joined Dweezil Zappa's touring band for at least one recorded show and brought his huge drum kit. Bozzio was side by side with Joe Travers who had a minimal drum kit - when they traded drum solos I enjoyed Travers more. Which isn't to suggest that Travers is 'better' than Bozzio - just an observation that surprised me. I'll also take this opportunity to post (probably not for the first or even second time) my fave from the Zappa Plays Zappa tours. Absolutely love the guitar jam/solo that starts around 4 minutes in.
  23. These notes are marked "Return to Sender" I'll save this letter for myself I wish you only knew How good it is to see you See you
  24. I think #2 would be the best next step. There are always going to be plays where two people view the same play differently. In the end we take time out from game play to do a Zapruder-like investigation that as often than not many think they got it wrong.. View the replay in real-time and if it's not obvious, let the call on the field stand and move on.
