  1. Marklin electric train set. It was a starter set that I added to over the years. It's around 47 years old and comes out for Christmas most years.
  2. They say that memory is the second thing to go. I can't remember what the first is.
  3. On Friday there were reports that $60 million was coming the Mets way. $20 mill from the Mariners means we are paying Cano $20 mill per year for the next 5 years. This deal seemed to get worse with each passing day.
  4. I had the same exact thing happen in a pre-season LL game. Pre-season is worth mentioning because it was cold and it hurt and it sucked when I realized it wasn't an HBP. I played slo-pitch softball for years and from time to time I'd go through a batting slump. One slump was particularly bad and I told the guys on the bench to watch my next at bat and let me know what I was doing wrong. For the first and only time in my life I struck out looking....in slo-pitch....when I got back to the bench I was informed that the problem was that I didn't swing. A lot of laughs at my expense over post-game beers that night.
  5. It's pretty clear to me what we should do: Eat Eric Roberts!
  6. Imagine the uproar if NFL investigators were caught bribing someone with access to the video let alone bribing the person that knows the someone who has access to the video and the guy that knows a guy.... I'm assuming that's what it takes for TMZ to get what the NFL couldn't. I doubt TMZ invoked the Freedom of Information Act
  7. Tough to argue against the Cardinals. I'd add the Titans. They were must-see back in the McNair/George days, not so much for awhile.
  8. Nice call on Kelly/O'Neill. Assuming the deal goes through as currently advertised here's my positives: - Cano at $12 mill per year is better than Bruce at $14 the next two years. - Cano at $12 in years 3-5 is less of a boat anchor - Moving Bruce gives us a better chance of retaining Conforto and Nimmo - Diaz was the best closer in the game last year and the bullpen got better by dropping back Gsellman and Lugo That said, I still don't like the deal. Feels like DiPoto suckered VW into it.
  9. Mets non-tendered Flores. Starting to feel like there will be significant roster churn. I'm expecting Thor rumors to heat up after the Cano deal gets done.
  10. I'm with you. I've been on the fence all along, but I'm leaning towards the negative right now. I really want to keep Kelenic but that looks unlikely. Losing McNeil would feel like Justin Turner all over again. If this goes down it will be a defining moment for Van Wagenen - for better or worse.
  11. Multiple sources saying it's Cano/Diaz for Bruce/Swarzak/Kelenic/Dunn and maybe Gershon. McNeil and Vargas have been mentioned too. For some reason I keep thinking of Seinfeld: Frank: What the hell did you trade Jay Buhner for?!? He had 30 home runs, and over 100 RBIs last year. He’s got a rocket for an arm. You don’t know what the hell you’re doin’! Steinbrenner: Well, Buhner was a good prospect, no question about it. But my baseball people loved Ken Phelps’ bat. They kept saying “Ken Phelps, Ken Phelps.”
  12. +1 I've been too close to a couple of tragic situations this past year to not take that advice to heart. Go Bills!
  13. Couldn't agree more. To me, the bolded encapsulates my hopes/expectations for this season perfectly. Still on track despite the horrific start to the season.
  14. This deal is more about Edwin Diaz than it is about Cano. I'd trade any prospect the Mets have for Diaz straight up. Assuming Bruce is in the deal the risk is years 3-5 not 1-2. If this goes down they better give up only one top prospect. I'm not dialed in to the farm system but assume that means Kelenic, Dunn, Jimenez or Alonso. I'd want to keep Kelenic over the other three with Alonso second.
  15. Where there's smoke there's fire? Two tidbits from this article: - Van Wagenen negotiated Cano's 10 year contract - the Mets prospects may be Justin Kelenic and Justin Dunn. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/robinson-cano-mets-trade-talks-1.24040485
  16. If it's a list of players I hated at the point of import, that's pretty tough. I've often skeptical about an import (Bay is a great example) but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and hope I'm wrong. If it's a list of imports that I grew to hate that might take me through to the new year. Going with the former list: 1. Vince Coleman 2. Vince Coleman 3. Curtis Granderson 4. Bobby Bo the second time around 5. Vince Coleman
  17. I'm not advocating for Cano, but the thought of dumping Bruce and bringing in a young lights out closer (50+ saves sub 2.00 ERA) is appealing. I can't stand Harper and the thought of being stuck with him on a long term contract frightens me. Granted he's young, but not many of those mega deals work out too well (ironically - see Robinson Cano). But I'd learn to love him too. I always go back to my most hated Mets signing: Vince Coleman. Couldn't stomach hm in a Mets uniform, but slowly came around. Just in time for the bleach and firecrackers.
  18. According to the article below the parameters for the Cano deal are the Mets take on Cano and pay him $14 mill for 5 years and also get either CF Mitch Haniger or closer Edwin Diaz. Mariners take on Jay Bruce and get a top prospect. I'd rather have Cano at $14 over Bruce at $13 for the next two years, but the last three would be a disaster, plus whose to say Cano doesn't get suspended again. Risky. Also, who is the top prospect? Certainly not Dom Smith, I would think it would be among Alonso, Jimenez or Kelenic. I'd vote Jimenez off the island. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-hot-stove-making-sense-of-robinson-cano-rumors-as-the-mariners-and-mets-continue-to-talk/
  19. Some interesting stuff in the article below. - Mets hired a 33 year old analytics guy who co-founded a consulting company named Normalized Empirical Individual Forecasting Index (NEIFI). I wonder if he was a fan of Neifi Perez. - Riggleman was first contacted by Omar before the Van Wagenen hire and Omar made the follow up call after Van Wagenen was hired. I don't want to read too much into that but is Van Wagenen a puppet? That was my friends take when the Van Wagenen hire was first announced. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/jim-riggleman-adam-guttridge-1.23969572
  20. I heard this last night. The way I heard it the Mariners contacted the Mets and Yankees trying to unload him. In the case of the Yankees they'd take northwest native Jacoby Ellsbury off the Yankees hands. I don't want him either, too old and we can't hide him at DH. But if you wanna play what if...how about we bring him in to play first base, (as you said) move Bruce in the deal and move Frazier too. Sign Manny Machado and trade Alonso for pitching. Mid-season lineup: SS Rosario 2B O'Neill 3B Machado 1B Cano LF Cespedes RF Conforto CF Lagares/Nimmo C Someone better than D'Arnaud and Beef-on-Plawecki
  21. McD should go with the FISH! philosophy next week: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish!_Philosophy
  22. Nope. But as Idandria pointed out, the end zone is different. I'm surprised nobody brought up the fumble out of bounds comparison where the possessing team retains the ball. That's basically what you're lobbying for (except where the ball gets spotted after the play). To some of us the end zone is different. I get where you're coming from, just don't agree.
