Something something shahs spleen. I think he’s gonna be re-signed
-
I thought it was funny he brought up pff grades. Quessenberry had a much higher grade than brown. Despite leading the league in sacks along tackles. Also I don’t think Saffold is cheaper than Williams. Williams is gonna get less and if they wanted him I think they would have restructured him. I thought that would happen going into FA. So I’ve been in Saffold is an upgrade camp. I also find Williams underwhelming at guard and good at RT. So when we give Williams pff grades it would be his overall grade I think. I wonder which grade (tackle or guard) was higher. He took an appreciable number of snaps at RT

Already available on YouTube. joe is always worth a listen

One starter from the end of the year. Considering who took the majority of snaps we got improvement at 3 places. Bates better than Ike, mongo, ford (you agree with me on this) Brown improves (I think you would agree odds are that he does), Saffold. That’s better at three positions which equates to much better. Did they get anyone to surpass Morse or Dawkins? Nah but they did turnover the bottom part of that line. Go be miserable about something else like why Bates got less snaps than Cody ford.

You better tell the league that they are underestimating Williams. I was here for 2020. he lost his spot to a rookie the next year. clearly there are limitations in his game (they are athletic, his RAS is bad). im not aware of him ever having a good season at guard. Ultimately i think Williams' lack of athleticism is why teams have soured on him as a Tackle and he has never shown to be a good guard. Seems a pretty straight forward why he doesnt have a deal yet. The injury concern is really your best argument in this saffold/williams discussion, which is why im still laughing at your terrible take earlier, but at this point the bills have shown they are able to manage injuries very well. But saffold gets to play beside an "all pro" LT this coming season so really the comparison is to Bates. Again saffold is a clear upgrade. At this point you need to hope someone signs williams for > 5 mil or ill just have fun tagging you with that. At RG Bates had a better ratio of snaps : penalty than Williams and did not have enough snaps to qualify for a ranking (he gave up 0 though). Yeah that might not translate to the other side but at this point youre just projecting. If it doesnt Van Roten is very similar G to Williams (Van Roten << Williams @ T). Quessenberry is fun. I think sacks plus penalties is just as useful to evaluate OL play. Brown had 8 penalties last year to Quessenberry's 2. so Quessenberry has 13 penalties and sacks to browns 9 penalties and sacks. Quessenberry also had like double the snaps and was a clearly better run blocker. So yeah I think he played better last year, even though I think Browns anticipated growth makes him a better RT this year. Also quessenberry has a great story. dude played less than 500 snaps before last year, and he turned out to be an awesome run blocking tackle. He has played multiple positions after winning his battle with cancer. So just overall yeah i think his play this year can be expected to be better than Browns rookie season. So where does that leave us. you need Bates to play worse on the other side, Saffold to be injured, Brown not to take a step forward, Quessenberry to take a step back as a run blocker. That would be same level of play as last years OL (we would run Dawkin, Bates, Morse, Van Roten, Quessenberry in this scenario). So thats all variance on one side of the mean. I could paint a picture where we become a top 5 line this year doing the opposite of what you did to get them back in the 16-20 range (I think they will be top 10). I think an improvement from 16-20 to top 10 would be considered much better. But you do you and keep telling GMs they are underestimating Williams as a tackle.

Kumerow cut, re-signed, according to Profootballtalk

They normally play these games with guys they trust and normally the guys only play ball cause they trust the team. But the also normally don’t play these games at this time of the year. -
Simms Concludes his top 40 qb's. Allen top dog.

We should probably trade him for someone better. Who you got in mind? -
Lol what. Daryl Williams who is still a free agent after we cut him is a wash with a Rodger Saffold that just came off a pro bowl year to finish his contract. You think Rodger Saffold wouldn’t be signed right now as he’s a wash with Daryl Williams? So after your laughable first argument let’s assume you’re right on the rest. If bates can’t flip sides (cause he has only played all the OL spots), then I still think all our other iOL depth (besides ford) is better than Daryl Williams (who is unsigned lolol). Now brown regresses from what was an already inconsistent year. Quessenberry played better than him last year. So if he can maintain his play then we have still upgraded. Someone gif me a Billy Madison “may god have mercy on your soul”. At no point during your laughable arguments did you come close to making a salient point for why even in the worst case the line still hasn’t improved. agree josh has never had a good line so low bar. But wow that was a good laugh. Dudes not signed and he’s wash with Saffold. We don’t know exactly what the league thinks of Saffold but we definitely know what it thinks of Williams (about as much as your take is worth 🤣)

It’s true his pass protection is not great. But he is a great run blocker. Maybe they thought they couldn’t afford him with their cap numbers. The titans drafted isiah Wilson in the first so they def don’t get the benefit of the doubt when it come to tackle evaluation.

Saffold pro bowl guard and bates for a whole season. Year of growth from Spencer brown. That’s a personnel upgrade at 3 starting positions. Quessenberry is a better swing tackle than Doyle. Depth guard I guess is worse considering they had bates waiting in the wings. All this before I even mention that kromer >> Johnson. Do you think the OL is not the best it’s ever been for josh?

I was surpised he didnt bring up the pressure rate and sack rate numbers. Thats a big reason I think josh does "more with less" than anyone else. -
Based on financials crowder is pretty much a lock to me.
-
they keep him around cause he costs nothing to keep. he should flash in OTAs. he doesnt handle the physical game well. who are you signing with the small amount of money from cutting crowder? You at least get 900k from cutting mckenzie. i dont think either is going anywhere but at least we can get out of mckenzie's contract with some money back.

Why are we all forgetting about david quessenberry? He started on a dominant run blocking OL in Tenn last year (no dropoff in YPC after Henry went down). At worst he is good swing tackle depth. Considering Brown hasnt taken any snaps this offseason Quessenberry maybe starting RT opening day. Im hoping for Brown to come back for camp but he had an up and down year. I agree with Joe Marinos breakdown of how the personnel changed for the offense QB > push RB > better WR > worse but not a concern besides outside WR depth OL > much better When I look at it this way I think we have invested pretty well considering we were 3rd in points scored last year. We didnt need the impact positions on offense (QB, WR1, LT) like we did for defense (CB, Edge) so it looks like a lot more investment on defense.

I am very happy with their product that I pay for. If you listen to any content creator they have great respect for cover 1 almost certainly. GunnerBill had a disagreement iirc but that was a while ago. I strongly recommend watching their josh Allen film breakdowns. Best 48 hours of my life that I’ve spent. As for badolbillz I also had a bad experience last off-season and put him on mute. But his in season takes we’re reasonable. So considering putting him back on ignore for the off-season based off his antics in this thread. Will see about in season.

Last year when they immediately stashed Stevenson in IR effectively only having 6 WR for opening day and the rest of the year? So you think they’ll stash someone on IR? I do think this is the year to keep 7 but it’s disingenuous to say they kept 7 last year. You can only protect players once they make it onto your PS. So he would have to be cut and not picked up by other teams. Then I think he can still be picked up by other teams as PS protection seemed to be a COVID thing. I wouldn’t guarantee he gets picked up by another team but I don’t want to risk it. I don’t think McBeane does either considering they traded up to get him.

Thanks @YoloinOhio surprised there isnt more discussion on OTAs. Is Poyer gonna talk to the media? That will be a very interesting media session.

Agree but we could quickly become a TE heavy division. Pats have the most investment, but Jets signing Uzomah and Conklin could indicate a switch to more 12 personnel. If we have two division opponents that run 12 or 21 personnel > 40% that would be be a reason to put another LB on the field. Not counting CHI (though new coach), BAL, or a philosophy change in MIA (SF is > 40%).
-
I agree about Taron being super good but I think he does come off the field a bit more. We talk about Milano injury history, but Taron ended 2018 on the IR and missed 4 games during 2019 with injury. Giving him 15% less snaps I dont believe will hurt the defense that much and could protect Taron long term which is what I want considering the money you mention (protect that investment). I agree with others we have been base nickel for McD/Frasier's time but the two NE games last year were some of Tarons lowest snap % of the year (Jags game was 18% so maybe someone can remind me of an injury). Adding in that the Dolphins and NYJ want to run the 49ers wide zone and quick pass offense, I could see more 4-3 base (will concede that Taron played a lot of snaps in NYJ #2 2021 and SF 2020).

Rd 2, Pick 63 (31): RB James Cook, Georgia

What? Singeltary is one of the 5 worst athletes on the team. Cook is explosive. I can show RAS scores later -

I encourage you to think about how many snaps they want RB1 and RB2 to play. I expect they want very similar touches for the two and that’s why they force feed moss the first 3/4 of the year. With that perspective we have upgraded RB2 which is effectively half a starter with this perspective. -
I love Tre (and this pick) but he is not one of the best tackling corners in the league. Actually, Levi was the best tackler. McD typically has below average tackling teams. Theres only one prospect ranking that mattered it had Elam as BPA. Agree time will tell, but he was definitely BPA on Beane's board as he was the last first round grade left. I think the thing most rankings lack is access to medicals and interviews; as such, they are missing a very important part of the process.
