It's Erin Andrews, but Colt McCoy's Girlfriend will be next. She's on the right with some dude whose name escapes me. I've always been partial to Bonnie Bernstein, though. She has some credibility in that she's a washed up athlete (gymnastics at University of Maryland). Plus there was a character on "Sports Night" named Bobbie Bernstein played by Lisa Edelstein. I always thought that was a nice nod.

In the course of all this Time Warner comversation...
HopsGuy replied to The Dean's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Here's my story: I have the TW bundle (Cable Internet, HD Cable w/ HBO etc, Digital Phone). For the most part, I've been satisfied with my service. I also have Tivo Series 3 HD which I LOVE. To use this service, I have to have the CableCARD, which TW installed with a minimum of problems and some problems are to be expected because only a small number of people have it. Anyway, I get a letter a couple of months ago telling me that there are about to be some problems. Why? Well to expand service without installing new (costly) infrastructure, TW is switching over to Switched Digital Video (SDV). Don't worry though, we'll supply you with a tuning adapter so that you can continue to use the CableCARD (which I'm paying a couple extra bucks a month to rent). Over the weekend they made some SDV changes which basically made all of the HBOs, ESPNs and like another 30 channels not work on my Tivo. I call tech support asking if they made this switch. I was put on hold and told that "Yes, we made some changes over the weekend so that you now have (4 channels) in HD now, but you'll need to use the old box to view them." I say "Yes, I figured that was the case. When will the tuning adapters be available?" This of course stuns the girl on the phone who obviously is not trained to answer this question. I don't blame her. She has a crappy job for a crappy company. That's the way it goes. Today they changed back. Why? Well, they were fined $20k by the FCC for making the switch without first providing CableCARD customers with the tuning adapters in advance. Of course, this could just be a temporary fail-back because something went wrong with the change, but I'm hoping they're waiting until the adapters are available. -
It was a great play by a great player. It was also a fantastic example when teaching Little Leaguers. When you're coaching the tykes, you ask "If the ball comes to you, what are you going to do?" You know CU had it in his mind that if it was hit up the middle he'd have little chance of getting Iwamura (not Upton) at first and he'd have to check Bartlett for rounding 3rd. I'm sure Rollins was yelling instructions at the time, too. In baseball, it's often the little things. And most folks just don't get it.

Do you have a bakery shop nearby that delivers? Have them deliver a dozen doughnuts to the cops with a note that reads, "You're not helping anyone." -
I think everyone is missing who the real culprit is here: Dan Uggla. He committed 3 errors, struck out 3 times and grounded into a DP in the All-star game. If he had been replace by an adequate 2B-man (not even an all-star), the National League would have won the game and this game would have been played in a dome. Damn you Dan Uggla! Go Phillies! Why Can't Us?

There's no correlation or causation here. My friend possesses talents entirely unrelated to his smoking habit. He can make an everlasting impression on someone in the time it takes to walk from the door to the car. I've kidded him that I could make a reality show about him called "Let me walk you out". He is one of the most unique individuals I've ever encountered. He also trades futures like no one you've ever met. So there's that.

I agree. Here's my solution and it's not perfect... let the ref use his judgment and call it what it is: Unsportsmanlike conduct. Tell coaches, "We gave you the right to call a times-out like you asked and now we have this unintended consequence. This is how we're going to solve it without revoking your new privilege. Stop being stupid." Give them fair warning that a 15-yard UC penalty will be the result. Thanks what I think, anyway.

Miss Teen Louisiana stripped...of her crown

My dyslexia kicked in when I read the thread title. I started thinking of Ginger from Gilligan's Island. I'm ok now, though. -
The logo is wrong. The eye isn't red. There should be a local graphic artist that can do this on a plain cover. Let your fingers do the walking and keep the business near home.

I know a guy that runs a huge portfolio. I mean 9 figures HUGE. He also smokes more than anyone on the planet and I'm not being hyperbolic. This guy smokes more than Bob Marley ever could have dreamed. He smokes more than anyone suffering from cataracts. Think of the biggest chain smoker you know. This is that guy except he smokes dope. It's crazy. And he's quite successful. It's weird.

We had this going around in an email chain last Friday. I don't have an opinion on the guy other than to say "Wow, there's a guy that had a plan for his FU money!" Portfolio had the whole letter in a PDF, but it looks like they took it down. For those interested, here's the entire letter:

Penn & Teller had this very things as a topic on their show Bull$#!t. Here's a YouTube clip. It's all about context my friends.

I'll be at the game Wings and 'Weck for tailgating God I hate the Fish Chiavetta's Chicken Go Bills, Destroy the Fish SPF 50 As you can see, I'm pretty excited about the pre-game! -
I'm looking forward to a full report from National Grid. I worked for Philadelphia Electric when I was in college. One job I had was investigating claims against the company. One time a Mylar balloon got caught in the lines right near a pole-mounted transformer. The transformer exploded and rained oil down on a car below. This stuff happens all the time, but usually the section can be fed from another side and the issue is isolated. A trip caused by a fault would be retried automatically 8 seconds later. Three failures would cause a second switch to close. I get the feeling that isn't possible in this case. I'm curious as to the structure of the grid around RWS. Rarely does a single point of failure take down a whole section, but with a fully electronic control system, I can see a reset taking a couple of hours. Poor timing for us fans. I'll take the win. It thinks its now pretty evident that TE's health is paramount the success of the team. Oh, and K. Mitchell was a monster!

I'm beginning to agree. I saw the pilot and Tivo'd last night (I'll watch later). TMQ made mention of the series and had some observations:

Favorite "Gin Mill" in WNY that you....
HopsGuy replied to EndZoneCrew's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Too many to mention, but here's a few... I played softball for the Raintree Pub in the Town of Tonawanda. I was also on the puck bowling team, so I guess it qualifies as a "gin mill". Malone's in Kenmore was across the street from this crazy penthouse my buddy had in the early 90s. Then there's the Gin Mill in Ellicottville, but I digress. Now I have the Goo Goo Dolls song "Broadway" in my head... See the young man sittin' In the old man's bar Wait for his turn to die -
My favorite part of the whole thing was that Michael Ironsides' character called Marc Singer's character "Gooder" which was short for "Do-Gooder". There's no comeback for that. You're a good guy, you help people and some dude pins a nickname on you for doing it. Awesome! Also, George's boss (Mr. Wilhelm) was the leader of the Visitors.

What he said. I'd google terms in that post ("football jerseys" "High school") and call around.
-
Didn't Chris Weber say that one of the reasons he took money from a Michigan booster was the fact that they were selling a jersey with his name on it in the bookstore for $99, but he didn't have enough money in his pocket for a sandwich? Or something like that? To Tortured Soul: Your best bet it to get the jersey and take it to a local place that can put the letting on it for you.

I eat pizza for dinner at least 4 times/week. I make my own dough with my bread machine. Molto Bene! Pizza is the world's most perfect food. (1) The basic recipe contains all four food groups (crust = bread/grains, tomato sauce = veggie, cheese = dairy, pepperoni = meat). (2) It's good hot or cold. (3) It can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner (or late night snack). (4) Does not require silverware or plates (just napkins). Quad Erat Demonstratum.

Difficult to pick just one. Lot of the racist stuff is funnier now with rampant PC than it probably was then. Gonna have to go with: "Baby, I am NOT from Havanna!" I don't even know what that means, but the delivery was perfect.

Howard Stern: is satellite radio making him irrelevent?
HopsGuy replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
As Chef Jim noted, what is "relevant" may or may not be relevant to you. Do you know who the biggest star in Bollywood is? Me neither, but I bet 500-600 million people in India do. I started listening to the Adam Carolla show podcasts. I really enjoy his show, but it doesn't matter to me if it's considered "relevant". It just needs to entertain me. -
