I'm thinking that "Cheesy" should be defined as a trying to be a certain type of movie, and while failing at that, ends up bringing a whole other level of awesomeness. I'll go with "Showgirls". When Elizabeth Berkley pulls out the switchblade on the pickup truck driver, I start giggling. Think that scene was done in one take?

He did it because he thought he'd get a scale.

Any structural engineers out there?

I'm an EE so I'm tempted to say that your capacitor isn't properly sized to go with your inductor. Either that or we need to re-bias that Darlington configuration. Captain Sig would send the boys out to knock the ice off. -
The poll reminds me of this line... Freak: I can't think of a single movie that couldn't be improved by a lesbian sex scene. from this movie. Good indie film shot in Syracuse. No such scenes, but there's a good one from "Lookers".

For such a sweetheart, she always had lousy taste in men. -
That's so 1977. The new closer is, "Wanna come back to my place for some Wii bowling?" Either that, or "Wanna go in halves on a bastard?"

Why Does Anyone Give A $#!+ About Soccer

Did Chase Utley have to be carried off the field on a stretcher while whining like the 2nd lead in an off-Broadway production of "Carmen"? Baseball >> Soccer -

Now that I think of it, I went to a BNL concert with a girl about 13 years ago. On our way to the show she said, "I'm sure this will turn out better than my last date. You might have heard of the guy, he plays for the Bills. Phil Hansen?" Sweet girl. I'd give her a solid 7 1/2. Tall.... probably 5'11". Never went out with her again. No spark, but at least I have that story. Which is nice. -
Great scene at Wimbledon today. Andy Roddick had his unbelievably hot wife in the crowd while Roger Federer had his unbelievably average wife there. Great match but you could clearly see Roddick was distracted because Russell Crowe was there too and kept moving closer to her section. Federer knows that his wife isn't on Crowe's radar, so he could focus and clearly had a more solid mental bearing at the end of that marathon 5th set. I guess the question is, do you want to win Wimbledon or do you want to be with a hot chick? We can't all be Pete Sampras.

My buddy hooked up with a girl that later was a tabloid girl for Michael Jordan. Also, I worked with a guy whose wife used to date Bobby Flay. I know, not nearly in the league of Mock & Fabio. -
We're never greedy.

WB is great, and I'm a big fan of his partner Charlie Munger. Lynch wrote the first book I read on investing when I wasn't even in the game. David Swensen is another guy in the conversation. I recommend reading John Hussman's comments. Another guy I respect is Mebane Faber.

You and Myron Rolle are crippling the reputation of FSU as a "Clown College" (UF-grad friend's words, not mine). Now, go on and kill it. Then enjoy your holiday weekend. -
While I agree with you that the investors bear some responsibility for their losses, I think ENVY is actually a bigger factor than greed. Many of his new investors came by client referral. Those clients were envious of their friends making a great "secure" return of 10% while their stuff was probably only returning 5-7%. Maybe 50-50 GREED/ENVY. Quick story - I was at a Panthers tailgate and someone was telling me about a guy there that was making 10% PER MONTH on his $100k investment with a FOREX trading firm. 6 months in and all 6 months $10k was hitting his bank account. The guy telling us about it (not the investor) asked me and my business partner, "You guys are in the business, what do you think of this." My partner said, "I know what Hops thinks." Everyone turns to me and I say, "It's a scam. It's called a Ponzi scheme." This was about a week before Madoff. Two months later, the jig was up and the firm was caught. Not by the CTFC, but by early redemptions. I'm afraid to ask the guy about the thing. The Madoff case was fraud. The SEC should have caught it earlier with Harry Markopolos basically bird-dogging the thing for them. New regulations won't prevent it any more than laws against burglary will stop breaking and entering. Bad people will do bad things. Oh yeah, and DC Tom is 110% correct. The SS system is most definitely a Ponzi scheme. And the redemptions are coming.

If I've said it once, I've said it a THOUSAND times: "Former Soviet Bloc countries should not be using 80s American sitcom marketing ideas!"

At a place called BJ's? I would certainly hope so. I lived in Fredonia for a couple years after college. BJ's and Sonny's were rockin'. Made me wish I had gone to a school with a 60-40 girl/guy ratio. Damn engineering schools.

In the late 80s the Pentagon was giving out ROTC scholarships to just about anyone that asked. Okay, not entirely true but I did manage to snag an Army scholarship, so I took it. By the time I graduated in '93, the Army was being downsized and since I wasn't exactly a Ranger, I got a reserve commission in the Signal Corps. I spent 6 months at Ft. Gordon doing my Officer Basic Course, but the toughest part was combating boredom. The most significant action I saw was chasing girls in Myrtle Beach and New Orleans. Spent most of my commitment in the IRR except for a short stint as a Company Commander of a Headquarters Company in Syracuse (paperwork platoon). Honorably discharged in 2002. So I served, but I didn't really do anything. I'd say that the training made me a much better person, but hey - the taxpayer picked up that bill. Not exactly inspiring, huh? The military isn't for everyone, but I might believe that 8 weeks of basic training for all high-schoolers before senior year might not be a bad government initiative. Better than a lot of $-wasting stuff we do.

I sat in the RF bleachers for a game 6 (gasp!) years ago. It was truly awesome.

Here's one for you... If/When the Marlins move into their new stadium on the old Orange Bowl site (and become the Miami Marlins), Coors Field in Denver will be the 3rd oldest park in the National League (Wrigley Field, Dodgers Stadium).

'85 Plymouth Reliant SE (K Car platform) Looking back, I'm pretty sure the marketing folks at Chrysler snickered when they came up with that name. Most Memorable Moment: Had my first job out of college and I was picking up my next car in a few days. I was driving west on the Thruway in March and passing a semi. Hit a patch of ice and a second later I was looking directly at the car behind me while spinning into the median. Took a couple of breaths, restarted and drove off. Not a scratch on the car. You get the best automotive education while owning a POS.

Is it unsportsmanlike to change who you root for?
HopsGuy replied to The_Real's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Just channeling my inner Philly rage. I don't really care that the guy changed allegiances. Born in Olean NY, but graduated from Drexel. I left Philly 16 years ago. I'm much better now, but I'm still a Phanatic. BTW... Pat's > Geno's -

Terribly weak. I don't want this f&^ktard rooting for my Phillies. I hold him responsible for all 6 saves that Brad Lidge has blown this year, as well putting both Lidge and Eyre on the DL. Hell, he probably cracked the Liberty Bell. Please shiv this mofo for me. Thank you. -

When I saw "Reaper" I thought of "Death" on "The Family Guy". Which then reminded me that Seth MacFarlane was late for American Airlines Flight 11.
