  1. This is what I would potentially do if I were the GM of every team in the NFL draft, enjoy ripping it apart!! Includes my grades, some reasoning behind the picks and trades, usually I do this for fun a while before the draft, but its all I had time for this year. 2017 NFL Mock WWP51DO? 1 – Cleveland – Myles Garrett (43DE – Texas A & M) The combine performance Garrett put on showed his remarkable athleticism, his tape shows room for improvement, he has the highest ceiling in the draft. If he puts it all together, HoF potential. Soloman Thomas is extremely enticing to me, but Garrett’s ceiling is higher helping cement him as the pick. Grade: Top 5 *Trade* San Francisco trades the 2nd pick to Cleveland for the 12th, 33rd, 52nd, 108th, and the 145th in 2017 and the Browns lowest 2018 2nd round pick. As the 49ers I want to trade down and accumulate more picks to build with, as the Browns I want my franchise QB now (actually my Owner does and I am just compromising with him to keep coach Hue from leaving) and don’t want to play wait and see. So as the Browns I make the same pitch to the 49ers that I make to the Bears while im on the clock at pick 1, if the 49ers take Mitchell, no deal with the Bears who are willing to deal, if the 49ers want a package that values closer to pick 3 it is all theirs, as the 49ers I will take a slightly reduced value to add two second rounders, a fourth and fifth in this deep draft, while also netting an extra 2nd next year makes it worth taking slightly less than face value to move down. 2 – Cleveland (via. San Francisco) – Mitchell Trubisky (QB – U.N.C) Mr. Biscuit is coming home in hopes of reviving the Browns like LeBron did with the Cavaliers. Trubisky is my #1 QB for Cleveland and I am not messing around in the 2017 or 2018 drafts after trading away Carson Wentz last year, the future is now and since I have the capital to make it happen, it happens. I am coming out of this draft with the #1 player on the board and my #1 QB. Grade: 2nd Round 3 – Chicago – Malik Hooker (FS – O.S.U.) Hooker is a game changer in the secondary and can effectively cut off the deep field as a SHS by himself, while allowing the rest of the coverage defenders to compress the field in front of Hooker and play a more aggressive style of coverage. Hooker has elite level instincts, read and react, and ball skills, Hooker will enter the NFL with truly rare coverage skills and that is what I want in this secondary on this team and aside from trading down, that’s what I would do at 3. Pressuring the QB and WR’s is a must in this division, and Hooker allows my defense to do that, while providing A+ turnover potential in the back end. Grade: Top 5 4 – Jacksonville – Leonard Fournette (RB – L.S.U.) Its as simple as this; Fournette provides balance to the offense and directly helps defense stay off the field as well, a win/win. Whether it be Bortles as QB this year and into the future or a new QB in 2018, either way Fournette takes the pressure off and helps their development. Fournette has been a special talent his whole life and will enter the NFL as a rare physical talent. Grade: Top 5 5 – Tennessee (via. L.A. Rams) – Jamal Adams (SS/FS – L.S.U.) Adams can play both FS and SS, but his impact in my opinion will be the greatest at SS playing in the box. Da’Norris Searcy is a nice player, but Adams and Lebeau is a match made in heaven. Grade: Top 5 6 – New York Jets – Marshon Lattimore (CB – O.S.U.) Getting medical clearance on the hamstrings is key for me with Lattimore who I have as the best pure cover corner to come into the draft since Patrick Peterson in 2011. Lattimore’s ability to mirror, CoD skills, fluidity and ability to stay in the WR’s hip pocket is truly special as is balance and footwork while mirroring in coverage. A true island boy in coverage at corner and worth of a top 5 pick. Grade: Top 5 *Trade* L.A. Chargers trade the 7th and 113th picks to San Francisco for the 12th and 52nd picks in the 2017 NFL draft. As the Chargers I want a high end safety and the two my targets are gone and I don’t see the positional value to fill a need either, so I look to trade down and find a good partner in the 49ers who can add one of the 2 guys I would have taken at 2 if forced to make a pick. As the 49ers I work the board, get a target I had with the 2nd pick at the 7th pick while still adding picks 33, 108, 113, 145 and a 2018 2nd rounder. 7 – San Francisco (via. L.A. Chargers) – Soloman Thomas (DE – Stanford) Thomas was a real possibility at 2 and I still get him while adding five more draft picks. Boom, “winning”. Grade: Top 5 8 – Carolina – Christian McCaffrey (RB/WR/Ret – Stanford) Dalvin Cook is who I want to take here as I believe he is more of a work horse RB 1 than McCaffery, but off the field issues and a potential shoulder issue leads me to McCaffery who can be used in a variety of ways and provide an excellent option in the passing game for Cam. Grade: Top 20 9 – Cincinnati – Reuben Foster (LB – Alabama) Wanting to trade down only so far and still land a difference maker to fuel a quick turnaround just does not materialize and Foster in my opinion is a top 5 talent on the field with room to grow in coverage. Despite having legit concussion and shoulder concerns to go along with a dilution issue, the talent is too much to pass on for me. Grade: Top 5 *Trade* Buffalo trades the 10th and a 2018 5th round pick to Houston for the 25th, 57th and 130th picks in the 2017 draft and Houston’s 2018 1st Round pick. As the Bills I want to trade back a little and add a day 2 pick if possible while landing one of several players I like and nothing materializes, but talks with Houston heat up with L.A. trading back in front of Arizona and a QB of the future being real possibility at 12 and 13, not to mention New Orleans at 11 and I need to address the QB situation ASAP, Savage, injuries, a losing record and job security becomes an issue and the clock is ticking on the defense being dominate so I make a move toward the near future and land my QB of the future in this draft. Buffalo gets another 2nd round pick this and next years 1st from the Texans, making this trade worth moving down 15 spots. 10 – Houston (via. Buffalo) – Deshaun Watson (QB – Clemson) Watson is has all the intangibles and the desire and work ethic to improve under coach O’Brien and as the GM of the Texans with this roster, I am going all in before the window closes on this roster and making my move now with a proven winner. Grade: 2nd Round *Trade* New Orleans trades the 11th, 103rd and 196th picks to Washington for the 17th and 49th picks in the 2017 draft. As the GM of New Orleans I am not in love with my board and have 10 players I could take here, one of them will be available at 17. As the GM of the Redskins my defensive front is smoke and mirrors at best and being able to move up and land Allen at a reasonable price is priceless. 11 – Washington (via. New Orleans) – Jonathan Allen (43DT/34DE – Alabama)(MedRF – Shoulder Arthritis/Med Clearance) The Redskins have to get better upfront defensively, it’s other trash and future street walkers bad. Allen is a huge upgrade and a top 5 talent with some medical issues, that I get cleared and make the deal, grabbing the Chargers potential trade down target. Grade: Top 10 12 – L.A. Chargers (via. San Francisco, via. Cleveland) – Corey Davis (WR – W. Michigan)(MedRF – Ankle & Shoulder) The Redskins moved up and grabbed my #1 trade down target, so I grab my #2 target. Keenan Allen is a great player when healthy, which was 2 years ago and his injury history is truly history now, and just can not be trusted to be WR1 for a significant amount of time. Davis can be WR1 or WR2, either way I can not fail Phillip Rivers any longer on the field by not giving him weapons or support, he turned Tyrell Williams into a quality #2, Davis could be an All-Pro with Rivers throwing to him and the offense gets significantly more dangerous. Grade: Top 10 13 – Arizona – Patrick Mahomes (QB – Texas Tech) Mahomes arm talent is clearly special as his ability to create and finish plays outside the pocket. He has shown the ability to win from the pocket as well and has developed as a passer throughout his college career with the highest ceiling of any QB in this draft. The future is now for Arizona. Grade: 2nd Round 14 – Philadelphia (via. Minnesota) – Dalvin Cook (RB – FSU)(RF – Off Field, MedRF – Shoulder) I am delighted to surround Carson Wentz with a weapon of Cook’s ability, a top 10 talent who drops into my lap due to some character concerns, but I have faith the organization can manage the situation. Grade: Top 20 15 – Indianapolis – Hasson Reddick (43/34 WOLB/DPR – Temple) As the GM of the Colts continuing to improve the defense is a must and the pass rush is average at best despite adding some nice role/depth players at OLB, Reddick’s ability to rush the passer and drop into coverage is a huge addition and the card is turned in quickly. Grade: Top 20 *Trade* Baltimore trades the 16th, 122nd and 159th picks to the N.Y. Giants for the 23rd and 55th picks in the 2017 Draft. As the GM of Baltimore I see value in the 2nd round that matches up with my needs and moving down slightly to get it works for me. 16 – N.Y. Giants (via. Baltimore) – O.J. Howard (TE – Alabama) How is Howard still on the board? I DON’T CARE, got Ozzie Newsome on the phone and BOOM, helped out Eli and the offense with a steal of a pick at 16, gave up a 2nd, but got a 4th and 5th back. Grade: Top 10 17 – New Orleans (via. Washington) – Derek Barnett (43DE/34OLB – Tennessee) Moved down and got my target at 11, #winning… Grade: Top 20 18 – Tennessee – Mike Williams (WR – Clemson)(MedRF – Neck – Med Clearance) Defensive play maker at 5, #1 WR at 18, easy as pie… Want John Ross but not comfortable with his medical. Grade: Top 20 19 – Tampa Bay – Charles Harris (43RRDE/34OLB/DPR) I need a pass rusher and Harris is the highest rated one on my board without a medical concern, Buddha Baker is hard to resist and I wish Dalvin Cook slid down, but Harris it is. Grade: 1st Round 20 – Denver – Ryan Ramczyk (LT – Wisconsin)(MedRF – Labrum/Hip – Med Clearance) The value meets the need on my board, easy pick despite the medical concern, especially with Stephenson and Watson atop the depth chart at the moment. Ramczyk starts day 1 at RT at worst and is the in-season/long-term LT. Grade: Top 20 21 – Detroit – Takkarist McKinley (34OLB/43DE/DPR – UCLA)(MedRF – Shoulder – Med Clearance) The pass rush aside from Ziggy Ansah is near non-existent and it costs us games last year, Tak might be a DPR for a while, but that is all we need from him for the time being and he’s a good one. Grade: 1st Round *Trade* Miami trades the 22nd and 178th picks in the draft to San Francisco for the 34thand 66th picks in the 2017 draft. I am not in love with my board as the GM of the Dolphins and as the GM of the 49ers I want to continue to add big time talent while working the board. 22 – San Francisco (via. Miami) – David Njoku (RTE – The “U”) Adding a potential match up nightmare for my unknown QB of the future is a big need for me and Njoku will help this unknown QB, especially after a little seasoning. Grade: Top 20 23 – Baltimore (via. N.Y. Giants) – T.J. Watt (34OLB/43W OLB – Wisconsin) Trading down and one of 3 targets I had at 16 while adding a 2nd round pick is fine by me. Grade: Top 20 24 – Oakland – Jarrod Davis (43/34 ILB – Florida) This defense needs help at LB and Davis’s value meets the need, also adds some identity to the D. Grade: 1st Round. 25 – Buffalo (via. Houston) – John Ross (WR – Washington)(MedRF – Knee2ACL – Med Clearance) Ross was in consideration had I stayed at 10, and while the knee’s concern me, I get an ok from the doctors and add the most explosive player in the draft to complement Sammy Watkins and a movable chess piece for my offensive coordinator to help keep putting points on the board and back off opposing secondaries. Grade: Top 20 26 – Seattle – Forrest Lamp (G/T – W. Kentucky) A steal at the 26th pick and instantly my best offensive lineman and Lamp is probably the only starting caliber offensive lineman on the roster at this time. Guard, tackle, it doesn’t matter, protecting Wilson does in any way shape or form. 27 – Kansas City – Marlon Humphrey (Z/PM CB/S – Alabama) I tried to trade down, but the values were not there and Humphrey’s value is too good at this point. Grade: Top 20 28 – Dallas – Tre’Davious White (PM/OM/Ret CB – L.S.U.) The secondary in Dallas at CB1&2 is simply horrendous and I am taking the top player on my board at corner who is not being investigated right or wrong by the police at this time. White is pro ready at CB with return skills to help in the punt return game if needed. Grade: 2nd Round *Trade* Green Bay trades the 29th pick to San Francisco for the 33rd and 108th picks. Green Bay wants to trade down with their board being decimated and the 49ers want to trade up and land a potential QB of the future. 29 – San Francisco (via. Green Bay) – Deshone Kizer (QB – Notre Dame) It’s all about working the draft and getting the 5th year option, moving ahead of Pittsburgh figures in as well… Grade: 2nd Round 30 – Pittsburgh – Evan Engram (RTE – Ole Miss) I was already writing Kizer’s name down on the card when the call came that the 9ers were moving ahead of us, so instead of Big Ben’s future replacement, I get him a true RTE option for the home stretch run of his career. No pass rushers of value schematically at this spot is also a drag. Grade: 1st Round 31 – Atlanta – Jordan Jordan Willis (DE – Kansas St.) Whereas the Steelers didn’t have a schematic value fit, the Falcons do and Willis will help create pressure at LDE opposite Vic Beasley on passing downs. Grade: 2nd Round 32 – New Orleans (via. New England) – Budda Baker (FS/CB/Sub – Washington) I cannot pass on Baker here, I wrote it down on a napkin at lunch one day, the value is too good, the defense is too bad and just needs guys who can play. Having 2 second round picks to address other defensive needs makes this a steal of a pick. Grade: Top 10 2nd Round 33.) – Green Bay (via. San Francisco, via. Cleveland) – Alvin Kamara (RB – Tennessee) Grade: 2nd Round 34.) – Miami (via. San Francisco) – Malik McDowell (43DT/DE/34 5DE – Michigan St.)(RF – Heart4FB?) Grade: 2nd Round 35.) – Jacksonville – Cam Robinson (RT/G/LT – Alabama)(RF – Off Field) Grade: 2nd Round 36.) – Chicago – Garett Bolles (LT – Utah)(RF – Age/History) Grade: 1st Round 37.) – L.A. Rams – Chris Goodwin (WR – Penn. St.) Grade: 1st Round 38.) – L.A. Chargers – Marcus Williams (FS – Utah) Grade: 2nd Round 39.) – N.Y. Jets – Obi Melifonwu (S – U. Conn.) Grade: 2nd Round 40.) – Carolina – Josh Jones (SS/FS – N.C. St.) Grade: 2nd Round 41.) – Cincinnati – Taco Charlton (DE – Michigan) Grade: 2nd Round *Evidence in the Gonley case starts coming to light Friday and it’s in Conley’s favor.* 42.) – New Orleans – Gareon Conley (PM/OM/Z CB – O.S.U.) Grade: Top 20 43.) – Philadelphia – Adoree’ Jackson (Z/OM CB/Ret – USC) Grade: 2nd Round 44.) – Buffalo – Tyus Bowser (34OLB/43W OLB/43DE/DPR – Houston) Grade: 2nd Round 45.) – Arizona – Zay Jones (WR – E. Carolina) Grade: 2nd Round 46.) – Indianapolis – Jabrill Peppers (SS/RB/Ret – Michigan)(RF – Drug?) Grade: 2nd Round 47.) – Baltimore – Chidobe Awuzie (OM/Z CB/Sub – Colorado) Grade: 2nd Round 48.) – Minnesota – Marcus Maye (SS – Florida) Grade: 2nd Round 49.) – New Orleans (via. Washington) – Curtis Samuel (WR/RB/Gadget – O.S.U.) Grade: 2nd Round 50.) – Tampa Bay – Sidney Jones (CB – Washington) Grade: 2nd Round 51.) – Denver – Quincy Wilson (Z/PM CB/S – Florida) Grade: 2nd Round 52.) – L.A. Chargers (via. San Fran, via. Cleveland, via. Tennessee) – Davis Webb (QB – Cal.) Grade: 3rd Round 53.) – Detroit – Zach Cunningham (43W OLB/34W ILB – Vanderbilt) Grade: 2nd Round 54.) – Miami – Dion Dawkins (G – Temple) Grade: 2nd Round 55.) – Baltimore (via. N.Y. Giants) – JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR – U.S.C.) Grade: 2nd Round 56.) – Oakland – Kevin King (CB – Washington) Grade: 2nd Round 57.) – Buffalo (via. Houston) – Adam Shaheen (TE – Ashland) Grade: 2nd Round 58.) – Seattle – Rasul Douglas (Z/PM CB – W.V.U.) Grade: 2nd Round 59.) – Kansas City – Dalvin Thomlinson (DT – Alabama) Grade: 2nd Round 60.) – Dallas – Derek Rivers (DE/OLB/DPR – Youngstown St.) Grade: 2nd Round 61.) – Green Bay – Tim Williams (DPR – Alabama) Grade: 2nd Round 62.) – Pittsburgh – Cordrea Tankersley (PM/OM CB – Clemson) Grade: 2nd Round 63.) – Atlanta – Talyor Moton (T/G – Western Michigan) Grade: 2nd Round 64.) – Carolina (via. New England) – Demarcus Walker (DE – F.S.U.) Grade: 2nd Round
  2. I do. I think it makes sense for both teams, especially the Browns considering the Haslam factor. I cant believe a coach like Hue would take kindly to a QB being forced down his throat.
  3. How many first round corners now? Over under at 4?
  4. Thanks, really wanted to get through a 100 ranked but not going to have the time. 1/3 are DBs and my loose back 50 has had between 8 and 12 more with mostly 2nd and 3rd round grades, crazy....
  5. This is my final Big Board for the top 51 players in the 2017 draft according to me, including my grades. P51 2017 Draft Big Board 3.2 TOP 5 (Grade any draft – Immediate elite level starter – all-pro rookie caliber)(99-95) 1 – Myles Garrett (43RDE – Texas A & M)(MedRF – Ankle) 2 – Jamal Adams (SS/FS – LSU) 3 – Malik Hooker (FS – OSU)(MedRF – Labrum/hip & Hernia – Med Clearance) 4 – Solomon Thomas (43LDE/43DT-Sub – Stanford) 5 – Leonard Fournette (RB – LSU)(MedRF - Ankle) 6 – Marshon Lattimore (I-M/Z CB – OSU)(MedRF – Hamstrings – Med Clearance) 7 – Reuben Foster (34/43 ILB/43W OLB/ILB – Alabama)(Med/RFs – RotCuff & Concussion – Med Clearance – Drug?) TOP 10 (Grade any draft – Immediate impact starter – long term all pro ability)(90-94) 8 – Jonathan Allen (43DT/34DE – Alabama)(MedRF – Shoulder Arthritis/Med Clearance) 9 – Corey Davis (WR – W. Michigan)(MedRF – Ankle & Shoulder) 10 – O.J. Howard (TE – Alabama) 11 – Budda Baker (FS/CB/Sub – Washington) 12 – Forrest Lamp (G/T – W. Kentucky) TOP 20 (Grade any draft – Immediate starter – all pro/pro bowl potential)(85-89) 13 – Hasson Reddick (43/34 WOLB/DPR – Temple) 14 – Christian McCaffrey (RB/WR/Ret – Stanford) 15 – Derek Barnett (43DE/34OLB – Tennessee) 16 – John Ross (WR – Washington)(MedRF – Knee2ACL – Med Clearance) 17 – Mike Williams (WR – Clemson)(MedRF – Neck – Med Clearance) 18 – T.J. Watt (34OLB/43W OLB – Wisconsin) 19 – Dalvin Cook (RB – FSU)(RF – Off Field, MedRF – Shoulder) 20 – Gareon Conley (PM/OM/Z CB – O.S.U.) 21 – Marlon Humphrey (Z/PM CB/S – Alabama) 22 – Ryan Ramczyk (LT – Wisconsin)(MedRF – Labrum/Hip – Med Clearance) 23 – David Njoku (RTE – The “U”) 1st Round (80-84) 24 – Takkarist McKinley (34OLB/43DE/DPR – UCLA)(MedRF – Shoulder – Med Clearance) 25 – Jarrod Davis (43/34 ILB – Florida) 26 – Charles Harris (43RRDE/34OLB/DPR) 27 – Garett Bolles (LT – Utah)(RF – Age/History) 28 – Charles Harris (43RRDE/34OLB/DPR) 29 – Evan Engram (RTE – Ole Miss) 30 – Chris Goodwin (WR – Penn. St.) 2nd Round (70-79) 31 – Cam Robinson (RT/G/LT – Alabama)(RF – Off Field) 32 – Tre’Davious White (PM/OM/Ret CB – L.S.U.) 33 – Tyus Bowser (34OLB/43W OLB/43DE/DPR – Houston) 34 – Mitch Trubisky (QB – U.N.C.) 35 – Marcus Williams (FS – Utah) 36 – Zay Jones (WR – E. Carolina) 37 – Quincy Wilson (Z/PM CB/S – Florida) 38 – Patrick Mahomes (QB – Texas Tech) 39 – Deshaun Watson (QB – Clemson) 40 – Curtis Samuel (WR/RB/Gadget – O.S.U.) 41 – Obi Melifonwu (S – U. Conn.) 42 – Adam Shaheen (TE – Ashland) 43 – Zach Cunningham (43W OLB/34W ILB – Vanderbilt) 44 – Chidobe Awuzie (OM/Z CB/Sub – Colorado) 45 – Cordrea Tankersley (PM/OM CB – Clemson) 46 – Adoree’ Jackson (Z/OM CB/Ret – USC) 47 – Josh Jones (SS/FS – N.C. St.) 48 – Rasul Douglas (Z/PM CB – W.V.U.) 49 – Jabrill Peppers (SS/RB/Ret – Michigan)(RF – Drug?) 50 – Dion Dawkins (G – Temple) 51 – Malik McDowell (43DT/DE/34 5DE – Michigan St.)(RF – Heart4FB?)
  6. Sounds like the top three varies here, similarly to the draft community. Where is the drop off? For me it's after the top three...
  7. 'Tis the lying season enjoy it but believe nothing you hear or read coming from the NFL regarding the draft...
  8. Blokes, I asked about you about Malik McDowell before, appreciate the willingness to discuss him and have not been able to craft a response I liked since. So here it goes; I get the athleticism, explosiveness and potential with him, so with him I guess it boils down to this; sell me that when adversity strikes, I can count on him, he's not "lazy" and he'll take to coaching if its possible from what you know of him. Thank you in advance, P51
  9. Johnson still is young being 21 and not turning 22 until midish season next year I believe, so developmental time could certainly go a long way to helping technically and fundamentally. I was surprised he came out. I can see him going in the 3rd or 4th round given his natural physical traits and potential, I keep seeing him in the 2nd which is too rich for my blood, but he has things that can not be taught and teams like to think they can turn that into something more. I am pretty much on the same page with Robinson, if he were more consistent Id like him alot more. I liked Ereck Flowers a lot (top 10 grade ) and my notes on their issues are very similar regarding their balance issues in keeping their weight inline with their feet. Ram is in a similar boat to Cam for me at the LT position, but I think his balance and overall technique is better and is less risky at LT, but if that fails I think his fall back is to RT and he'll be fine there. I think Ram is a day 1 LT, but I could see him starting at RT day 1 then moving to LT by the end of the season, IMO he's a immediate starter at a T spot either way. I appreciate the response
  10. I thought it could be better... 10 - Williams is ok, but I go Malik Hooker all day long if he's there. 44 - Wilson is a realistic pick, but I would go Budda if not for taking Hooker in Rd1, give me Marlon Humphrey or McDowell there instead. 75 - Sutton does not fit unless its in the nickel? Bad pick IMO, Give me Kupp or Goodwin, Cooper Kupp is my preference by a hair. 156 - Mathis could be a steal, so Id be ok with it even though I dont think he really fits schematically, I think given the state of the LB core at the WILL, I would go Elijah Lee. 171 - Chad Kelly in Buffalo just seems like a bad Idea, I get it, but a bad idea. Jonnu Smith (TE) IMO would be a solid value there as a move TE. I think this would be much better... 10 - Malik Hooker (FS) 44 - Marlon Humphrey (CB) 75 - Cooper Kupp (WR) 156 - Elijah Lee (WLB) 171 - Jonnu Smith (TE) Interesting, Ill try to take a look when I get back next week if I have time. Thank you for the response I appreciate it!!
  11. I had none of them on my lists Now I do! (Gracias Bandito!) Granted I havent seen or heard anything about them (not saying much), but aside from some freaky measurables, you got any thoughts on them? Others thoughts on them?
  12. Cam at LT or RT? Fair enough with the top 4, I have Ram (21 overall w/a top 20 grade, LT), Bolles (27 overall w/a 1st round grade, LT), then Robinson (32 overall w/a 2nd round grade, RT/LT), then the position takes a nose dive to Garcia (100 overall w/a 3rd round grade, LT), but I am still working on my back 50. What do you like about Johnson? Ive got a 5th round on him and just dont see it with him in terms of putting the physical ability with his on the field ability. He's in my "looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane" category, which historically has not panned out for prospects.
  13. Them and one other team, would be sweet... Lol, good stuff!! Not until you find "the one" or luck into finding "the one".
  14. JMO, I think they'll go CB in round 2 or later, it fits what McDermott has worked with and developed in the past with his D's and with his zone schemes value. If Latimore, Adams or Hooker falls to 10 I think they may bite the round 1 DB apple, but otherwise IMO its trade back, LDE, WLB, WR or Howard at 10 where the value and need match. Outside chance at QB if they love one of them, but I dont see the value there personally. Agree 100% that if they take anyone other than Lat (who I dont see making it past 6 unless the Hammies are a real long term issue, in which case pass at 10) at CB at 10 is essentially a lateral move at best.
  15. Well said, I agree with almost all of this I dont think the RB class is as deep as I keep hearing it is with "starters" and such but I think the depth is above average to good with quality prospects, forgot to mention TE's in my post and agree with your assessment there positionally. Just wondering who your top 5 tackles are? I only have 4 in my top 100 that I would feel comfortable developing purely at T and most of the prospects IMO are better suited at G.
  16. I agree the QBs are more potential than sure fire and drops off a cliff quickly, the WRs are very good at the top but there is quality potential down the pipe. There is 2, 3 (depending on your thought about Peppers) high end Safeties, and being a draft-nik for 20+ years there have never been 2 top 5 safeties that I can recall like this year and the depth (high quality) potential through the 5th round. Corners outside of Lat and now S Jones injury are quality potential as well through the 5th round as well, the chances of landing a quality prospect in rounds 2-5 is better than I have ever seen. It's lacking at OL, DT and LB depth, but the RB, G and "Edge" class is quality similar to DB. It's a deep class like a good beer, good head and great body, the @$$ is always the @$$. While lacking in some areas the depth is there and it's a good year to have 2nd through 5th round picks, your chances of "hitting" on a lottery ticket there are good at a variety of positions... This of course is IMO.
  17. That could very well have been what happened, I thought it was a 2 deep man (certainly could C2 zone) to start the play and that they may have been checking into a zone(?), which either way Gilmore is certainly expecting help over the top initially and didnt get it. If they checked out of the initial coverage and he didnt see the check or it wasnt communicated to him, it would align with the coverage issues they had throughout the season. Film prep certainly could be an issue there as well, communication one way or another certainly was a issue last year.
  18. Him turning around and not trying to make a play prematurely pissed me off watching it live. I recall yelling several choice phrases at the TV/Gilmore for quitting on the play, regardless of the coverage or possible check. Yeah, the safety play and communication last year w/out A.Williams in particular was atrocious. Dont get me wrong about knowing that play call, I believe it was cover 2 or at least that is what I remember of that particular play and they may have very well checked out of it, that I dont recall, but with how bad the communication was last year in the back end I dont know if it would have mattered, the secondary did not do much well last year. So if they checked out of the C2 and Gilmore did not recognize/hear it, it could have been his fault. From watching the coverages last year there was a lot of confusion, people playing zone, when they were supposed to be in man, playing man when everyone else was in zone, and missing checks happened on the regular, especially with them waiting to the last possible second as much as they did to check out of coverages. I dont think he's worth elite money either, but the market over pays... He is a high end cover corner IMO, but how high end and how good of a all around corner? IMO that is certainly debatable.
  19. The coverage technique there (defensive play design) is stop the intermediate, short and deep comeback routes (this is one of the only schematic ways to stop the deep comeback in man coverage) aggressively and get a turn over with the CB from a QB throwing into coverage. The point is to overplay non-deep routes and get the turn over or eliminate certain routes, it has to do with scheme (what he was asked to do) and nothing to do with locking down your man completely (what he was not asked to do), its to decrease the probability of completing certain routes, increase the probability of a turn over, break up or the QB not throwing the ball at all. Gilmore did his job on the play, Meeks did not, its not as simple as "Safety help, is help, nothing more nothing less" in that defensive play design (I believe, which is usually man under C2) the safety help is IMPERATIVE. Its not Gilmore who is burned on the play, its Meeks, who by the way is still looking for a job, with that play on tape that NFL personnel people are looking at.... Hogan tied Desean Jackson for yards per catch average in the league last year for players with 30 or more catches, he's fast enough. Yes depending on how you round numbers he was 2nd. The rest is debatable, but that play shows how "doing your job" Gilmore vs. "NOT doing your job" Weeks, affects a play and how a fans perception can blur the reality of a play.
  20. Washington and Lawson played alot of 43 defense in college and were projected by most to be 43 type personnel in the NFL. Ragland should be able to handle a 43 defense as well. I dont think the front 7 is nearly that bad off with the exception of WLB right now. The corners do not seem to fit more so than the front 7 IMO. Yup, GIlmore looks like he's in trail technique looking to stop short to intermediate route, expecting over the top help.
  21. Your not wrong, they could have used that pick for Prescott. That pick they traded to the Bears and the two other picks the Bears had in the 4th could have also been used on Prescott and look at the Bears now... This is a multi-edged sword, Whaley clearly in last years draft was letting Rex do the grocery shopping, whether he was directed to by ownership or being a good GM for his coach IDK, but I do know Ragland was widely considered a 1st round talent at a de-valued position in de-valued type way athletically (although his physical limitations are exaggerated), but the trade up made alot of sense at the time, the Titans (w/2 picks), Raiders, Ravens, Packers, Saints (just signed T'eo) and Lions all had reasons to have added a ILB last year he very well could not have been there and looking at their rosters then and now, I think its a real possibility he would not have made it to Buffalos pick. Ragland in Rex's scheme is a perfect fit so they made the move up. So it made sense at the time, I was just hoping they wouldnt take Ragland in the 1st at 19, he was a good value in the 2nd round and was nfl.com's 2nd highest rated player after M. Jack available in the entire 2nd round starting with the 33rd pick. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/tracker#dt-tabs:dt-by-round/dt-by-round-input:2 The kicker for me is if they had a 4th round grade on Prescott and liked him, why not take him in the 3rd? Because few had that high a grade on him including them, that is what IMO people should potentially be upset about, if they in fact liked him enough to want him in the 4th, why not take him in the 3rd? Why wait until the last pick of the 4th round to get a guy you have a 4th round grade (if they in fact did) on? That to me is more of an indictment on Whaley and Co. Washington was a good prospect and clearly IMO a Rex pick, but they COULD have had Dak in the 3rd and Rex COULD still have his job. Regardless, the Ragland trade made sense then and I think still does, his talent (who knows about the affect of the knee now) should still allow him to be a real factor in this D, if Javon Trotter can be a playmaker in this D, Ragland should be fine moving forward. They were in contract talks with Tyrod on an extension and he was under contract, they were looking to get developmental QB which is what everyone thougth Dak was, as well was Cardarele who many had rated higher than Dak and Whaley was praised for landing in the 4th by many pundits at the time. Really the team was looking to develop a guy and didnt get Dak, instead got Jones, the trade took Dak off the board and they went with Jones who they may have rated higher than Dak at the time and Jones still has time to work out and in reality the trade did not affect their landing of a "good" QB prospect, Jones was talked about as a 1st or 2nd round prospect just a year before after the National Championship run at OSU. It affected their ability to get Dak in the 4th round. Which is always gamble anyways. If they stayed at 49 and not traded 117 they could have had Dak, they could have had Dak at 19, 41, 49 and 80 as well. Every pick not spent on a QB is a wasted opportunity in that regards. I dont think it was Whaley trying to outsmart anyone, he was trying to get a 1st round talent on the roster at a position of need, with numerous QB options in the 4th round, I think he was banking on one of a couple being there at the end of the 4th and one was. Its hard for me to say this trade is a fail because Prescott worked out last year, the Jury is still out on Jones and Ragland tore his ACL in camp and was out for the year. They still drafted a QB last year and took a shot at the position. That shot still has a chance to make an impact. In real time you are not granted the luxury of hindsight. True enough, they traded a 2016 - 4th and the 2017 - 4th for Ragland. They still picked a QB in the 4th round last year. I find it hard to believe not only the Bills, but the Browns, Jets, 49ers, Bears and many other NFL teams passed on Dak too. Several times.
  22. It's what happens when you don't love the game and it's a job... I agree 100% with giving him a "Carrot Stick" contract his performance towards the end of the season was very telling imo.
  23. Im with you on Wilson, who is on my board and climbing... Dont forget the feet, smooth back pedal and instant click and close footwork on in breaking routes. I'd say he's a willing tackler effort wise, but "ankle bitter" might be a better description. I think he goes in round 2, but he's gone come the 4th round. My case is for Rasul Douglas - CB - W. Virginia, in round 3. - Has the height and arm length McD likes and has a draft history drafting. - Fits the C3 profile, and can play bump n' trail/run gets a good jam in the 5 yard window. - Excellent eyes and vision, sees, read and reacts to all routes in his zone. - General awareness is excellent, understands situational football. - Ball skills; in coverage and is looking to rip it out of ball carriers hands. - Could transition to Safety and be a leader in the back end.
  24. Ill say Reggie Ragland, drops a little weight, is a little quicker and efficient "in space" on his zone drops and in man coverage from the ILB spot and his ability to diagnose plays, stop the run and run the defense will be a welcome addition to the defense, he'll stay on the field on all 3 downs and in sub packages. Projected: 130+ tackles, 15 TFL's, 3 FF, 2 INT's. p.s. Bills fans will praise Whaley's foresight in trading a 2017 4th round pick to move up in the 2016 draft to acquire him, as in hindsight its a wonderful move again...
