I don't think this is true at all. The New regime under Rex with Roman as OC wanted an all-purpose TE and they were very familiar with what Clay could do. They structured a contract that would make it very difficult for the Dolphins to match as they were in cap straits due to signing Suh. I think Clay gave them what they wanted and was a good player, but they over-paid because they really wanted him. In his first 3 years he averaged about 50 catches, 500+ yards, and 14 games per season, all while playing with a QB who was known for not seeing the middle of the field well. Injuries plagued him after that.

I almost mentioned that play—memorable! I’d say comparable to Montana: not known for their arms, rather their smarts and clutch play.

? My dad was a huge Packer fan, born in Wisconsin. I remember watching some legendary nfl championship games between the Starr-led Pack against the Dallas Cowboys.

It would be interesting to see a deep dive into the “sacks” question. Some thoughts. How many happen when a team is several scores up and the D line can “pin their ears back” and go? The KC example Simms used, a lot of sacks, but horrible O. Seems to be a consequence of KC’s O and teams having to keep pace. KC’s D faced 140 more pass attempts than the Bills. How many double teams did a pass rusher face? There are so many factors to consider, so there’s no perfect stat to measure a pass rushers effectiveness, but I’ll take % of pressures on pass rush attempts over # of sacks any day.

Teams Wanting To Pick 1st in 2020.....

Tua would be a good match for the “las Vegas” Raiders. There are a lot of islanders that live in Vegas, having left because they can’t afford to live in Hawaii. You’d get plane loads flying in for the home games too. -
The fact that he is in the conversation when he was taken at 27, the 4th CB off the board, works for me. McD’s first draft and first pick, not too shabby... [yes, I know he passed on Mahomes]

I didn't see this "highlight" video on OBD until a few days ago. The last play has me worried....if he can't beat a triple team, he's a bust...

I will give Simms one more opportunity, but if he says Ranch over Blue again, I'm done with him....

Can I withdraw this thread? Shame...

Is There Any Position That The Bills Got Worse In The Offseason?
TPS replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree with his secondary assessment, but agree on the rest. After Davis walked out halfway through the Charger game, CB2 was a revolving door. . Wallace settled it down in the second half of the season. Gaines, Wallace, and K Johnson make it better, and taron Johnson will be better in year 2 as well. They also have more depth at S. -

Debatable. Croom was the leading receiver at the TE position. Clay didn't even crack 200 yards, and Logan Thomas was the #3. If Kroft is healthy, then I would argue it will be a better group. Kroft, Smith, Croom, and Knox. -
Yes, he is a converted WR, so I'm sure the blocking aspect will take time. I don't think he's the long-term answer, but I like him as the 3rd TE. They had to draft someone because Clay was let go and Kroft has questions about his durability, which was recently answered...?
-
Heard Chris Brown say today on OBL that Croom looked really good and seemed to have a good rapport with JA. Don't count him out.

JA is only one part of the discussion in the interview. They got into a discussion about pass rush vs coverage, and what is more important. Simms said something like, 10 years ago I would've said pass rush, but he's now on the side of coverage. Another interesting tidbit was related to the year he worked for the Pats, saying how it is football 24-7. He had a funny line about Belichick being so focused on football. He was in town doing a piece on JA, which he said will come out next week most likely. I'd recommend a listen if you haven't already.

Simms is a great listen and has some very positive things to say about Allen and the Bills. Includes a lot of other interesting takes as well, especially his view of Giants pick Jones. Bills Mobile: Chris Simms: "I really would be shocked if Josh Allen doesn't go out there and assert himself as one of the better QBs" https://www.buffalobills.com/audio/chris-simms-i-really-would-be-shocked-if-josh-allen-doesn-t-go-out-there-and-ass

Jerry led the DL in snap count last year. A better shaq could allow them to go a bit easier on him in his 30s...? -

Those are elite numbers and two of the most relevant ways to measure effectiveness of a pass rusher. How many sacks, for example, are the result of the player who disrupted the QB forcing him to move from the pocket? On a negative note, jerry may be the all-time leader of "in the grasp but didn't record the sack" ... -

Interesting tidbit from Joe B that they are trying Shaq on the right side as Jerry's back up. That's the side he played at Clemson, so maybe he's more comfortable there. -
Very sorry to hear this. RIP NJS.

Well, since I tried to go into this with low expectations, I'm not so disappointed. The Starks win the championship! (Say that 3 and 1/2 times). Despite being the obvious choice, I did not foresee Bran's crowning moment coming. I made a comment to my wife in the middle of last night's finale, it would be funny as hell if Bronn won.... I told her last week that Jon would probably end up in the North because there would be nothing left for him if/when Dany died. The endings for Arya and Sansa were appropriate, as was the final shot of Jon and the Wildings heading into the true north. Moral of the story: no matter how many times or how often you've been beaten down, the good people in the north (Buffalo) will win someday...
