  1. Gilmore is not suited to press-man like Rex had him playing. Add in the lack of pressure on opposing QBs and not a lot of CBs were going to look good. Gilmore is best suited to press-zone, especially Cover 2. McD is likely to run mostly Cover 3 with other zones mixed in. That would put the CBs into more true zones without pressing as often. That seems to be something that Gilmore could do well, although it is different than what he excelled at under Schwartz. It sure fits him better than press-man. Why don't you think he'd fit that scheme?
  2. Did a little more digging on him. Looks like he could be a good starter on a team with a lot of cover 2/3/4. If he has help over the top his lack of top end speed will be mitigated and if he drops into a deep zone he will and be able to ball hawk (which he is good at). He would make a lot of sense in McD's scheme.
  3. We don't know how good or bad Ragland will be, but we really should find out. I have reservations about him in coverage, but I know I might be wrong - and I hope I am. Or maybe he flexes to the DL in some nickel/dime packages Let's see what we've got.
  4. Really? I'd put Gilmore in the top 10 in the league. He's not top 5, but he's top 10. If I'm DW, I'm franchise tagging him in order to get a long term deal done. No question. No screwing around with the transition tag. That's a waste of time.
  5. Seems like a good fit as a 3rd corner. He wouldn't break the bank either.
  6. Cam Newton also had a crappy defense his rookie year.
  7. $20.6M in dead money if traded. That's actually $4.2M more in 2017 than if he would be kept. (Note that cutting him would result in even more dead money because of future guaranteed salary.) Also no other team will give up much value for a highly paid player who's one screw up away from a huge suspension. So, other than that......
  8. I keep coming back to this too. I'm not in love with any of these QBs, but I do like several of them to varying degrees. Sometimes the thing you need most just isn't there to be had.
  9. He actually played some edge rusher with his hand in the dirt at Bama. He should get a chance to see what he can do at MLB and in various packages. If he's not effective at LB in passing packages, then seeing what he can do as a pass rusher in those packages is certainly worth looking into. The team might find some additional value there.
  10. I really don't think that's a good way to look at things. For starters, cutting Carp would yield $2.4M in cap space, but about that much would get spent on a new kicker anyway so there really wouldn't be a net gain. You can look at the KW situation similarly as a quality replacement would cost real money. But kickers are pretty interchangeable and comparable talent is easy to find. Quality DTs are a different story. IF the Bills are confident they can replace KW in FA with a younger player of similar ability, then they'd be better off doing that. Let's face it, KW is done after this season and it'd be much better to have a long term solution in place than to be scrambling to find one next offseason. Keeping him at a reduced salary this season while getting a rookie's feet wet is another good way to go.
  11. Savings from cutting KW would be $6.8M. The other $1.5M would still count as dead money. $8.3M is the total cap charge if he's kept at his current deal. Still would be a significant savings though.
  12. If it's a rebuild year, then the Bills should move on. If they are pushing for a playoff appearance, then they should keep him. It would be a $6.8M savings if his roster bonus is not paid and he's in the last year of his deal. The Bills will probably ask him to take a pay cut rather than just release him. Notably, there's no one on the team that can fill his spot.
  13. Well, they already got one. The 3rd round pick is going to NE for Collins. One of the fourth round picks is going to Philly as part of the trade that got the Iggles Wentz. They still have the other 4th and the 5th.
  14. Thanks for the input. Glad I'm not the only one seeing it.
  15. One thing that bothers me about Trubisky is his throwing motion. I've watched film of him and sometimes he has a nice, over the top motion, but many other times he looks like he's pushing the ball. Just a weird motion. It looks like he might just need to gain some consistency there. It'd be nice to know how he takes to coaching on such things during his visit.
  16. Wilson was taken in the 3rd round with the 75th overall pick. If Trubisky is 6'1" and we're talking about a 2nd round pick (like Brees), then that's one thing. If we're talking about taking a 6'1" QB at 10 overall, then that's another. No thanks. There's a much increased risk with shorter QBs and draft position needs to account for that.
  17. One thing that isn't being mentioned is that the decision might not be simply keep him/cut him, it might be a series of options in which retaining Taylor isn't the first. Maybe they're going to see what other QBs make it to FA, legitimately come available via trade and even see which teams drafting above 10 fill their QB need early in FA before 3/11.
  18. It's a nicely done mock, Gunner. Great job. Adams is a player I'd love at 10. How the QBs shake out will be very interesting. I suspect that the big story after Day 1 will be that there wasn't the big, early run on QBs that many are projecting.
  19. Sammy wants paid, a QB that can get him the ball and an offense that encourages the QB to get him the ball.
  20. I definitely had some before I was ready to get married and settle down. That's about where the Bills are with Tyrod. He's the Bills' girlfriend that pushed them into getting engaged a year ago. Now they have to either marry him or break up.
  21. The job of a bridge QB is simply to hold the fort down so you don't have to throw an unprepared rookie QB into the fray before he's ready. He's just there so a team doesn't ruin their highly drafted potential FQB.
