  1. Neither Von nor the Bills did the other a favor. Von got about $2.5M more guaranteed than he already had coming to him plus a bunch more possible with incentives. Had he not agreed to that deal he’d have been cut. He’d have received the guaranteed portion of his salary and then signed a deal somewhere else. That deal would have a low base (around that same $2.5M) plus incentives. There seems to be a lot of DEs happy to sign one year deals later in the off-season. I’d be surprised if we don’t sign one.
  2. There are a lot of sports media people who take money to post what teams, agents or players want them to say. Thomas knows the game the Saints are playing. You wish
  3. At this point anything we can get out of Elam is a bonus. The team has to proceed as if he will provide nothing though.
  4. agreed. no word on guarantees yet.
  5. The concern is more that it’s a big enough contract that it means he will be a starter. No bueno. He was not close to starting caliber last season. I don’t know why they’d go this route, unless the incentives are large and one of them is % of snaps. That would mean he’s getting back up money if he’s a back up and starter money if he plays a lot. I hope that is what is happening.
  6. Some of us believed you. It’s just that we were hoping you were wrong.
  7. OTC is the site NFL teams use to look at info from other teams. Spotrac has better usability for some stuff, but OTC has better info and a very good calculator for cuts/restructures/etc. If there’s ever a discrepancy you can bet OTC has the correct info.
  8. OTC shows that he had $6.435M guaranteed for this season. So to move a bunch of his compensation into incentives the Bills upped the guaranteed money to $8.855M and kept him on the roster. If the Bills had cut him he’d have gotten his $6.435M and then signed a contract with a low guarantee and high incentives. So basically he just signed that with us. And we get the bonus of continuing to spread out the signing bonus we gave him 2 years ago. I’d have preferred to just move on, but this is a fair deal if we think he can get closer to who he used to be. https://overthecap.com/player
  9. The team is waiting on Allen’s restructure because of PR. It would be a lot tougher to blame all these moves on being in salary cap hell if people were to see the numbers after his restructure. It’s a common tactic.
  10. Waiting on the details. Miller didn’t just give up the guaranteed money he had coming to him. I suspect he got a very nice signing bonus as part of this renegotiated contract.
  11. Indeed. It is what it is regardless of how anyone around here feels about it.
  12. I think Denver might want to move on from older vets like Sutton if they’re doing a big roster reset. Just guys that won’t be there when the team is ready to compete again. Open up cap space and get some picks to reset the roster and to help trade up for their next QB.
  13. I think the Bills moved up this vet purge by a season. Likely that was due to Miller and White’s significant injuries. So it could’ve waited a season, but it was coming. And I think it was the prudent move. IMO it also is a vote of confidence for McDermott. You don’t do this and then fire your HC in a year. You have to let him see the rebuild through. So I think he’s here for at least a few more years unless he loses the locker room.
  14. They would not pay for them if they released him without the post 6/1 designation either. I was just clarifying that even though his contract is carried on the books as if he is here until 6/1, the Bills don’t owe him any of that money.
  15. I didn’t think they had much choice. Two seasons in a row lost to injury and no real sense that he’d be back to 100% this season.
  16. Thanks for all you did for the Bills, Tre. It was a pleasure to watch you play.
  17. Yes. The team does not pay that or any other non-guaranteed money. The contract sits on the books as if he was still on the team until 6/1. The only difference is that the team is not obligated to pay work out bonuses, roster bonuses, etc.
  18. It means they converted some of his salary into a signing bonus and added at least one void year. We are just deferring $2.5M of his cap hit to next season. Without seeing the details I would guess that they converted $5M of his salary into a signing bonus and added one void year.
  19. There isn’t really a W to get here though. If it’s a reasonable contract, then NE matches. That’s good for them. If we overpay him and they don’t match, then we overpaid for a very good safety. That’s at least a small L for us. I just don’t see how it helps us.
  20. Also do we really want to pay a safety $12-$15M a season? The transition tag pays him $13.8M so he will likely be looking for that per season. He’d be a great player to get, but that’s tough - especially when NE will likely match it anyway. I agree that I wouldn't waste my time doing their work for them.
  21. So far Mahomes has lost three playoff games - two against Brady and one against Burrow. So Burrow deserves to top the list. Not saying Allen or another QB can’t do it, but he’s the only one still playing that has.
  22. That’s perfect. They can have all of the horribly boring events at the same place. In all honesty, that’s a very, very cool design for a ballpark.
  23. Why would anyone care about a mock draft - especially one done before free agency even begins?
  24. That’s all true, but I’d counter that his level of play as a starter was below average and the above came at a cost of $9M in cash and cap space. Not the end of the world or anything, but no one should be thinking this was a W for the Bills. Especially when they could’ve kept him in 2022 for less with a higher tender.
