  1. Good point. I would just prefer Dennison take the pressure off by taking some responsibility and saying something like TT kept some drives alive and we had a shot but we have to get off to a better start.
  2. This is what worries me...Dennison is already lying to himself. I know he has to defend TT but you don't have to say this. The D kept them in the game and the Bills should have lost by 30. I don't think TT could have done much with that pedestrian game plan and the WRs we have. Made a good enough throw on the last drive and didn't get rewarded. I hate all these conservative coaches. The only way to win in the NFL consistently is to get up by 2 or 3 scores so one bad call by a ref or one unlucky break or missed assignment doesn't end up in a loss. Keeping us in the game talk is for coaches who will lose too many games on bad breaks just like Sunday!
  3. I'm not a TT fan or hater. He's like 80% of the QBs in the league. He needs an outstanding team to look good...isn't going to look good on his own and is probably better suited for a backup role. The OC looks horrible, he doesn't have a number 1 receiver which makes every WR a lot weaker, his OL is average. He can move the chains with his legs sometimes which is about it. I hate when the Bills continually screw up the only part of the team that is working. Every year either the O or D is so bad the other side of the ball can't make up for it. It's maddening. I am worried because I just don't think Dennison will ever be a good OC and we have a head coach that I don't think knows what to do with that side of the ball.
  4. That's what I thought exactly. And defending the OC. Plenty of separation on that last play! Maybe your GM should have predicted this problem and did something to prevent it. Matthews may be a decent receiver but not a number 1 and Jones is a rookie. We may have the weakest WR position in the NFL. Also, there are more knowledgeable fans than I who can tell me if I am correct but it seems to be the West Coast Offense has run its course and Dennison is not innovative enough. When the West Coast was run by the 49ers and even last decade it seemed like defenses hadn't yet adjusted. Today I think this offense plays into their hands because they are faster and better at red zone defense. Trying to score with a 12 play drive doesn't seem to be the way to go any more. You need to spread the field vertically and well as horizontally. But what do I know other than the Bills offense looks lost compared to last year.
  5. I want to go on record that I don't think Trubisky will be a good QB. In fact, I'll go on record that he won't even be an average QB. From the Gruden tapes and my research he doesn't have the superior intellect and decision-making to be a great QB. I like Peterman better as a prospect. Way over rated but he has a cool name. Of course, I could be wrong.
  6. Actually isn't that they way it is always done? You can't cut staff before the draft when they have knowledge of your draft board and could sell/use that knowledge with other teams! You have to keep them on the payroll. Then, if they betray the organization they'll never find work again. That's why they are left in place to see the draft through.
  7. Love it. We have been unorganized and mediocre for so long it's nice to see a direction finally coming together. McDermott has the right attitude. In the NFL it isn't talent so much that wins anymore it is character and intelligence. With the salary cap you have to do a really poor job if you can't find enough talent to win. It's how you use your talent and how reliable it is.
  8. It is not a lack of integrity to use knowledge you have to your benefit. He had to risk trading picks to get in front to take a player which may or may not work out like it always does. You can guess what most of these teams want to do anyway based on their roster. He may have had a little more insider knowledge than normal but that happens all the time when coaches and players move around the NFL.
  9. Nice to see at least one organization worse than the Bills! The GM and coach should of course be on the same page in today's complex NFL. Maybe decades ago it didn't matter so much but it sure does now when some players fit much better into different systems. And don't say a coach should be able to change to match his players. That assumes the players are all built to play a certain style. That doesn't happen on accident. The Pats have a system and you best believe they don't change to fit players. They find players to fit their system. Its why Hogan is a normal player with the Bills and shines with the Pats. Who thinks the Pats would surprise Billichik with a pick? Plus trading down for that QB is stupid. I wasn't impressed with him at all but it is not his fault his was picked so the Bears fans should save their Boos for the GM.
  10. We drafted some good players over the years. The question is what do we get instead. This group seemed to be decidedly average and you hate to see people go. Although I think with a basic draft chart I could have done better using logic - at least in the first two rounds. That Maybin pick was a crime. We all saw that bust a mile away. We drafted okay after the first couple rounds but I think in general the NFL overrates potential and athleticism and underrates character and intelligence. You end up with players like Darius who only perform at a high level infrequently.
  11. If I were a Pats fan I would not be laughing...one of these days the Bills will stumble on a real GM. We may have already stumbled on a real coach. They should have been hoping Whaley would stay in place forever.
  12. Good deal for everyone. There aren't a lot of situations where Tyrod could go and succeed (imo) but he just might keep improving here. He's good enough to win some games here and buys time to find the next QB if he never takes another step forward. I don't know that Whaley gets the credit though as he seemed to drive the excessive contract in the first place. More likely McDermott had a positive evaluation and wanted to keep him but not at that salary and the finance guys were charged with renegotiating a deal. I guess we don't really know for sure.
  13. Is this the same GM that gave him the big contract to take him from the Broncos? Is Osweiler really that bad? I guess if he's a backup type you don't pay him $16m. Okay move for Browns because they have the money and Osweiler has only started a couple years....how can you write him off this soon?
  14. I agree with most of this excellent post. I think part of the local media's pessimism is the same as mine. They are tired of getting sold positive stories about the Bills and then having anything hopeful turn to crap every year. How would you like to cover the Bills every year? Personally I could only take it so long and move to another market. It must be as frustrating as being a fan to see every December and must-win game fall to pieces!
  15. Its not all about the QB, It's about play design. I think a lot of okay QBs and WRs would improve a lot playing for the Pats.
  16. I like receivers like the Steelers corp that block well so Woods has some value. The biggest problem is that Watkins is too brittle to count on so you need another excellent receiver to account for that. I like Tate as a special teams guy and he can do some receiving but we definitely need a couple. The unit grade was more like a C- I think.
  17. I hate the Patriots. Everyone plays pathetic against them. I hope the Falcons keep their O going and just roll over them. But I'm sure some Falcon(s) will do something dumb and cocky during the next two weeks like Antonio Brown and they won't show up.
  18. I feel much better about the roster after seeing that list! I think I could find replacements for that group!
  19. I appreciate the effort on the original post and the effort thinking through scenarios. I just wish Rivers was a little younger because I fear it will take a few more years to get our act together just when his age catches up with him and we will be spending resources that will delay the work we need to do to become a playoff team.
  20. I don't care what Pegs says, if you losers want to make the playoffs you'll listen to me!
  21. Is there room in this bromance for me?
  22. I agree 100% on Whaley. That's funny, I am just like you...I hate this ridiculous front office but by summer I'll be buying into the what ifs only to see them lose must win games next November and December. I still can't believe they had Oakland and managed to screw that up in only 20 minutes! And manage to lose to the Dolphins.
  23. I bring Taylor back. He's underrated and people forget he is still very young in terms of game experience. Yes, he needs to improve throwing but I think his ability to extend drives with his legs and not turn the ball over are being underappreciated. You keep him and keep drafting to find his eventual replacement due to injury or regression. You lose him and we are right back into full rebuild mode. And just because you say "rebuild" doesn't mean you are actually building anything. We are the type of team that will require a decade to compete again. Unless you think we will never exceed mediocrity with Whaley and this is the way to force that change than I may agree. Whaley could draft 10 more QBs without picking the right one.
  24. I'm hoping they get an unproven coach who turns out to be good like the Dolphins and Giants seemed to find this year. However, if you want to worry here's something to worry about. The Bills were plus 12 the past 2 seasons in turnover differential which is excellent. Last year they only lost the ball 12 times!!! How the heck do you have a losing season when you do so well on turnovers which is one of the most important aspects of the game? What happens if our luck changes next year? That's one reason I bring Taylor back.
  25. As a GM I would trade down in the draft every year as often as possible, especially these next couple years as our depth is so thin. The reason is, no matter what you think, you're going to miss on 50% of these guys. You just never know how a college player handed millions of dollars is going to react to that change. For example, this year we are picking around 10th when we easily could have been picking 15-20th. So trade down into that range anyway and pick up as many extra picks as possible. Then, only pick high character, intelligent players and leave the high risk players alone. Their miss rate is much higher. If we would have done that the past several years I am certain we'd have a much better team.
