I remember when Harold Reynolds first went on to Baseball Tonight... I was interested because he played for the Orioles for a time. He was quite awful initially. Tripping over his lines, saying a lot of "ums" and "you know." I was quite impressed with how polished he became as time went on and soon he was one of my favorites. What I hate about ESPN is that they won't explain what happened so all there is is innuendo. Remember when they fired Gregg Easterbrook? ESPN deleted all his past articles and acted like he never wrote for ESPN.com without an explanation. The fact that it came from a quick aside about Eisner and his religion/ethnicity was speculated before coming out through other channels. (Now of course he's back, but that's another story.) It's understandable that an employer wants to avoid embarassing the fired employee or risk some sort of defamation lawsuit, but when someone is in the public eye as much as these people, that isn't realistic.

I hope that last part was a joke--last thing we need is another pointless law that restricts people's actions.

Long time fans know this era more typical
Arkady Renko replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are probably right. I was too young to follow the Bills closely until the late 80s if not early 90s. However, I think the NFL has changed and long-term playoff absences are extremely rare so I don't think it's weird to be so disappointed. It is the reverse with my baseball team, the Orioles. Most of the time I have been around to follow them they have been awful outside of a couple decent years. Most older fans remember the great Earl Weaver teams and are less accepting of their current crapiness. -
Whatever happened to the idea of going back to mainly disposable (and probably safer) spacecraft? I kind of miss the Cold War. Better space race and simpler geopolitical problems.

Do we normally have more draft picks signed at this point?

Unfortunately, my fiancee leaves me for another man. (1-2). Sun 10/01 MINNESOTA VIKINGS FOX 1:00 PM Bills make it two in a row, beating the Vikes on a late TD drive. The depression of losing the love of my life makes me stop leaving my apartment and stop going to the law school. (2-2) Sun 10/8 @ Chicago Bears CBS 1:00 PM Bears beat the Bills 16-13. Also, my dog dies (2-3). Sun 10/15 @ Detroit Lions CBS 1:00 PM The Bills have the best game of the year so far, winning by two touchdowns. (3-3) Sun 10/22 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS CBS 1:00 PM The Bills lose again to the Patriots, but close until the 4th quarter. It also mirrors my family life as my new found alcoholism drives all those I love away. My finances look they will be beaten soundly as I am fired from my part-time job for tardiness. (4-4) Sun 11/12 @ Indianapolis Colts CBS 1:00 PM The Bills again can't keep a streak going. I learn that my fiancee was having an affair for the past two years before she left me. (6-6) Sun 12/10 @ New York Jets CBS 1:00 PM Buffalo will be hungry for a victory and the Jets won't even know who their starting QB is. Hungry for some meaning in my life, I drop out of law school after blowing the semester's tuition. W (7-6) Sun 12/17 MIAMI DOLPHINS CBS 1:00 PM The Bills dominate the Dolphins and the Bills rout them again in the snow. Unfortunately, depression dominates my life and I have trouble finding anyone to hire me. (8-6) Sun 12/24 TENNESSEE TITANS CBS 1:00 PM Bills lose a close one. (8-7) Sun 12/31 @ Baltimore Ravens CBS 1:00 PM Eliminated from the playoffs the week before, the Bills come out flat and lose. I also come out flat the first time I am with a woman since my fiancee left me. (8-8) Not a bad season for the Bills, I think.

I have been happy with the Citi Dividend Card which gives me 5% on gas, groceries and drug store and 1% elsewhere.

I was just trying to fit in. My dream is that at some point CTM and AD might respect me. -
Honda Fit Fails to Crack Top 10 in Gayness

It was just the one time, I just saw one on the NJ Turnpike and well, many men do it from time to time no matter how few want to admit it. -

This response is the board in a nutshell.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. I do have one question. Is this it? He just flies around. He doesn't do Lois? I assume Clark's identity does not come up in the end?
-
Yeah, my car does that too. I am not sure if it's for security, safety or both.

On Monday night, I was about 2 hours into the movie when a personal emergency arose and I had to leave the theater. I guess there was about a half hour left. I was wondering if someone who has seen the movie could just lay out how the rest went (when I left Lex Luther's continent started to form). I am sure that Superman prevails, but I'd appreciate just how it all happened. I am curious and don't want to plunk down more money to see the so-so movie again. Thanks.

Personal accountability out the window?
Arkady Renko replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The funny thing about suing a company for stock losses is that the owners of the company are the stockholders. So really, when a disgruntled stockholder (most likely a lawyer who owns a few shares) sues a company he's really suing the people who stuck it out and kept their shares. The only valid reason IMO to sue in regards to investing is where there is outright fraud, like a financial adviser who ran away with all the investors money, etc. -
My alma mater is one of the few schools that still require students to pass a swim test to graduate (if you can't swim after one year of lessons, they give up). I actually enjoyed doing the test the first day I was there. It was a solid rite of passage.

Carjackings and escaping children aside, is it safer to drive with your doors locked or unlocked? As I was driving back home this week, I was curious. This is my worthless contribution to the board today.

They do have a valid point. I feel sorry for anyone trying to learn English spellings when they are native speakers of another language. I don't think Italians or Spaniards have spelling bees, after all. But... with a simplified spelling system, there would be less separation between me and other Internet posters. It would be hard to find something else to hang my hat on.

It wasn't defense that got them to the Super Bowl, it was a social concern.

How tough is our schedule this year?
Arkady Renko replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, if the schedule is going to back-loaded or front-loaded this year, better to be front-loaded considering that the team should improve later in the season. -
Warren Buffet donates $37B...
Arkady Renko replied to Crap Throwing Monkey's topic in Off the Wall Archives
That can barely buy you a football team nowadays. -
It was red, so I guess it wasn't you then.

I saw my first Honda Fit on the NJ Turnpike on Friday. That is one tiny car. By the way, Prius drivers are smug, not gay. HTH.

Does longevity make someone a HOFer?
Arkady Renko replied to MrLocke's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All I know is that there was a lot of talk that Thurman Thomas wasn't a first-balloter or whatever but would get in eventually. What I don't get is that the same wasn't at least said about Moon. The case for Thomas in the HoF is much better, by far, than that of Moon's regardless if you are a Bills fan or not.
