  1. I don’t think that’s the case because of Allen. No one would be more excited about a 5th round pick with limited physical skills over a guy that you traded up into the top 10 for. There would be a McCarron camp (aka: let the kid develop) and an Allen camp (aka: take off the training wheels). If you notice anyone that advocates for Peterman points to the positives from last year. That’s the basis for the support. If he hadn’t done ANYTHING than the people in the camp of “we don’t know what he will be if we haven’t seen him” would be pushing for Allen. That same thing applies to him but with WAY greater physical tools.
  2. I think that the answer is because “he’s not Tyrod.” Some people wanted anyone but Tyrod last year and were happy to see Peterman. At the same time they now protect him because he’s the guy they wanted. No one likes to be wrong about a guy. They are willing to give him every opportunity to prove them right. If Peterman didn’t fall on his face last year I don’t think that we’d see anyone lobbying for or against him. He’d just be a camp arm. At this point though everyone has strong feelings because there is a resume. One side can say “I think this because...” while the other side can say “yeah but....” If Peterman didn’t play at all last year the talk about him would be so much less.
  3. I think that I’m of the belief that WR is a bigger need than OL (although both are needs). I just happen to think that some of the young OL (specifically Miller and Groy) are a little better than people think. If Teller and McDermott can play they will have decent competition and depth there. The WR position is all question marks. There are health issues, speed concerns and an inexperienced group. There isn’t much to feel good about at this point.
  4. The reason that you were challenged is because you said that the Bills didn’t have the money to do it. That was immediately proven false. You could have just walked away instead you doubled and tripled down. No one thinks that it is “likely.” There are 31 teams that he can go to after leaving Philly. The Bills have need, money and a coach that has had success with his skill set. It’s reasonable to think that they will be interested.
  5. Oh no, not this take!! “I’d rather be right than the Bills improve” is the worst take a “fan” can possibly have. I remember losing a couple of EJ fans because they couldn’t handle being wrong about him. The simplest rule of fandom is “Best interest of the team > my opinion on what’s in the best interest of the team.” That rule is 100% true in any and all situations.
  6. It likely didn’t come with a raise either. He could have played a few games in Cleveland for $9M or potentially a few games in Philly for $9M. I get why Foles elected to stay put.
  7. Hackenberg makes EJ look like Peyton. He’s the worst NFL QB I’ve ever seen.
  8. What a waste of a conditional 7th!! The Jets ripped them off.
  9. This feels like an easy decision for the Bills. They have to make a play for him. If they get it don’t their LBs will be FAST.
  10. Maybe so, at that point though he may be Chase Daniel. He thought that he’d get a chance a few times and never did. He cleaned up financially though. He bounced around signing deal after deal. He has started 2 games in his career and made $25M.
  11. That depends were you a “c” student or an “a” student coming into high school? When “c” students don’t do well it is less surprising than when “a” students don’t do well. The “a” student is more likely to improve the next time out than the “c” student. So while I agree that there is no reason to give up on the guy today I don’t see any reason to believe that he will become something that he has never been. It’s Ockham’s Razor in a lot of ways. We can make a zillion assumptions as to why it went wrong or why it will change. The much more likely answer is, it won’t. His strengths will be his strengths and his weaknesses will be his weaknesses.
  12. That’s what people thought was his strength coming out. It wasn’t the case. @GunnerBill talked extensively about it in his scouting report. Peterman’s accuracy was WAY overstated. He has never been an accurate thrower. His main strengths were his ability to throw in rhythm and his “pro readiness.” Peterman was thought of as a guy that would need less time to adapt. He was advanced mentally. There is a lot of irony to that being his “strength.”
  13. I absolutely wouldn’t disagree because they have a year to stand on. By the same token, I’d give Peterman a much shorter leash than I did a year ago. He was a lock to make the team in 2017. He is fighting for a roster spot in 2018. If he played well in 2017 he’d be a lock in 2018. Peterman’s flaws are beyond that. He isn’t particularly accurate. He is awful under pressure (that’s why they called him “Nervous Nate” in college) and makes poor decisions. You couple poor decisions with a lack of arm strength and you get turnovers.
  14. I have no idea. I’m really surprised that we hadn’t heard this before (at least I hadn’t). In a lot of ways I wish that I hadn’t heard it.
  15. Maybe so but I think that the point is that he was a “good” player in a bad situation. Those guys can fall through the cracks. 1st ballot HOFers are still “good” players at least in a bad situation.
  16. Agree with this, McCarron seems to be a good addition. He’s a smart guy and a capable backup. He has a chance to be the long-term number 2 here.
  17. It depends on how you define potential. I saw a guy completely overwhemed that didn’t look like he belonged. I’m looking at a guy that is a clear number 3 option that will never be more than a number 2 option here. How hard is he to replace? I’d be surprised if he didn’t make it through to the PS. The Jets have held Hackenberg because he was a 2nd round pick. They won’t even dress him. At what point to you say, “the guy isn’t good?” Did the Bills give up on Levi Brown too soon? He was a similar prospect to NP. People have this fear that if they release Peterman he will go somewhere and become a good starter and they’ll regret it. That’s a terrible way to operate. If the guy stinks, he stinks. You don’t need to operate out of fear. If he is better than McCarron (which I highly doubt) then cut McCarron. If McCarron is better, cut Peterman. I don’t see any reason to carry a 3rd QB that will never be more than a backup.
  18. Do you think that the Bills should have given Nic Harris as many chances to succeed as Aaron Maybin? The answer is of course not. The 1st round pick is always going to be given WAY more rope than your 2nd 5th round pick. The Saints cut Garrett Grayson a year after making him a 3rd round pick. The Jets are clinging to Sackenberg even though they won’t even dress him. If a guy can’t play he can’t play. It’s much easier to cut a 5th rounder than it is a 1st. No one called Nic Harris a “bust.” You can’t have 190 guys picked before you and be a “bust.” You have to have expectations to be a “bust.” Peterman isn’t a bust. He’s just bad at football. If Allen fails he’s a bust. There is a giant, giant difference in the expectations.
  19. I guess that the point that I was making was sooner than I thought. It just seems like the Bills want him out there now. Cleveland this year, and KC last year were pretty forthcoming about their plans to give the QB time. The Bills have elected a different route. Either of them can work but it’s different than what I anticipated with Allen.
  20. I’ve been of the belief that Allen needs time. The sense I get however is that the Bills are hoping that he’s ready early. He will be given every opportunity to play from the jump. I voted Allen because that’s what I think will happen. If he isn’t ready as early as they want McCarron will play until he is.
  21. Also, McCarron is more proven. He has had more NFL success.
