  2. He may own the Bills two times a year (most teams have "owned" the Bills for the last 12 years or so), but I have never, ever, seen him look close to Montana like. I think that Sanchez is going to follow in the footsteps of disappointing players, who change places, and manage to carve a respectable, though unspectacular career for themselves. Kind of a Vinny Testeverde for the new millenium.
  3. TJ Graham is another good candidate. It seems he has already been written off as a wasted pick, or "bust" by so many here (a lot of the same people who still think Marcus Easley is a miracle waiting to happen), but as I recall, early last season, Graham was gettting open a lot, but Fitz couldn't get him the ball, and wasn't even looking his way very often...as the season progressed (or did it regress?), the only chances Graham was given were those little two yard passes to the sideline, on third down and 4+ yards to go. As I recall, he was a pretty tough runner on those types of passes, and actually got the necessary yards to convert, a few times, while shedding tackles. And, if you just want to look at stats, I believe he had about 30 catches for about 320 yards...not eye-popping numbers, but not insignificant either, considering he was not really being used in any way to take advantage of his percieved strengths.
  4. I thought he was going to be pretty good coming out of college last year...but apparently he was "too small" and not physical enough for the 49ers. Has to make you wonder why they drafted him in the first place. They say, this off-season, he has added some weight and muscle, and has been working with Kaepernick a lot...so it may not all be for not.
  5. It might actually give AJ Jenkins a little playing time.
  6. Not to hi-jack this thread into a "Freaks & Geeks" love-fest...but this is a great, small, scene that kind of epitomizes the heart of the show, freak meets geek...
  7. I am an uabashed Star Trek fan... but in genral, I agree...I loathe super hero movies and other genre type things. Sometimes, you find yourself watching movies you don't want to see, or shows you don't want to watch, and occaisionally, some are better than you expected. I started watching "The Walking Dead" for instance, because my girlfriend loves that kind of stuff..."True Blood' as well. We rarely like the same shows...I prefer "Mad Men", "Breaking Bad" and "Rectify", all which she hates. I thought the "Walking Dead" was pretty good for a while (not great), and "True Blood" had a great concept, but is just freaking awful to watch...I bailed on it years ago. I think the thing that Star Trek had (note I said "had", not "has") when Gene Rodenberry was running the show, was that there was an unusual amount of care taken into building characters, particularly for a science-fiction action show. That is why it will always stand head and shoulders above other sci-fi /fantasy type things for me. But, I have never seen, and have no interest in seeing "Lord Of the Rings" or "Harry Potter" or any other franchise series like this. Essentially, they are all the same....or leave me feeling the same..."when will this be over?"
  8. I had heard that she had some issues with James Franco (as did a few of the female cast members it sounds like), but never Apatow. When she was on the show, she was still fairly young. She did those "Scooby-Doo" fliks (she played the dykey Thelma), which I never saw, but were moderately successful. I know she also turns up a lot on network court-room and police dramas. I believe she was a reuglar cast member on "ER" for about 4 years as well. I think she is a total babe, and has aged very well! Also, when the show was cancelled, I think she was only about 20 years old. She went to college at that point, and got a degree from Loyola Marymount. There was a great "reunion" feature in Vanity Fair last December, catching up with all the cast members. Pretty good read. Really amazingly cast show. Every character, no matter how incidental, is perfect. There is one episode, near the end, that I swear, could have been ripped out of the diary of just about any white, suburban teen in Buffalo, in 1982. It revolves around going to see The Who ("this is going to be our last chance to ever see them' is repeated over and over! )... it also benefitted creatively, from low ratings..nobody was watching, Apatow and co. knew they weren't going to make it to a second season before the network ever made it official, so they really focused on ending the show the way they wanted, rather than succumbing to network and advertiser pressures. It was a perfect ending, which was just open enough in case the network (NBC IIRC) decided to give it more time.
  9. Voting for Aaron Williams...just because. I think the kid has some talent, but was in over his head a little bit, on a defense that was, on whole, in over their heads most of the time...putting blind faith in Mike Pettine to find more talent on the defensive side of the roster than the last administration was willing to find.
  10. I think it was a pride thing with the Bears/Urlacher. He is a god in Chicago... he probably confused his stature amongst fans with his actual on-field value to the team. Thing is, I don't necessarily think the guy has nothing left. He is awfully injury prone, but, IMO, when healthy, was actually better with age. Early on, I think he was a tad overrated, but the guy cared enough to improve on his game. Experience did a lot for him. Football fans in some circles have a tendancy to give drafted players attributes, based on their name (or yeah, even the color of their skin) that they really don't have...we kind of experienced a bit of that with Paul Posluszny.
  11. Yes...belongs in my "top 10" series of all time. There are only something like 18 episodes, but it is very much worth checking out. Given what I know about you, I think you would really enjoy it too. Never really thought of it until you mentioned the Linda Cardalini link, but in a strange way, it has some of the same appeal as "Mad Men" in that is a "period piece" that doesn't get so lost in the period, that it loses the characters, or the story telling. Great show... many of the same people who would later be involved with "40 Year Old Virgin" were involved...as well as one of the guys behind another of my all-timers "The Larry Sanders" show. I will admit, I wasn't hip to this show when it was on, but when the DVD came out about 5 or 6 years ago, my sister gave it to me, and insisted I would love this show...she was right. For me, I would have been the same age as Linda Cardallinis' character, and there are just so many nuances from that time period that they get so right....
  12. Honestly, I thought Galifinakas was a great comedian, used to love his old MTV series...and in the early days of the Jimmy Kimmell show, he would co-host from time to time, and he was unbelievably funny...but, like a lot of these people, what made them great doesn't always translate well into main-stream movies...especially "franchise" things like "The Hangover". Same goes for Ed Helms...he can be really funny, but suffers from overexposure...and I suppose you might make the same argument about Carrell. Rogan gets a pass,to a degree, for me, because he was in "Freaks & Geeks". Being a high-school kid in the early 80's, I have been told by quite a few people, who knew me then, that Rogans' character on that show was "exactly like" me...we even look a bit alike, though I have considerably thinner hair now! Didn't hate "Anchorman", but, like what are considered such great comedies today (like "Office Space" mentioned earlier), they are funny at setting things up...but then the second half of the movie has to happen, where there has to be a story, and it all falls apart...if Anchorman had been 30 minutes, it would have impressed me much more...but it was just an overextended, awful Saturday Night Live skit that goes on forever...and you just can't wait for it to end.
  13. Okay...leave it to mrags to break the streak..."Borat" is/was hilarious, IMO...also, while Carrell has been in some not so great flicks, he has been in some good ones too (aforementioned "40 Year Old Virgin" comes to mind)....and, if by "that other curly headed !@#$" you are referring to Seth Rogan (or is it Zach Galifinak?), like Carrell, some good some bad... honestly, don't really care for either "Caddyshack" movie. Sometimes, to each his own, but I think, somehow, comedy is more subjective.
  14. Talley...100% agree on your opinions...it has become popular to dog "Blair Witch Project", because it inspired so many imitators, some arguably better, most just awful. What people who hate on it seem to miss, in context of the times it came out, it was pretty innovative, and clever. Still think it was a fine movie. "Office Space", while I didn't hate it, is not the masterpiece it is purported to be...it seems like people just need to have 'one liners" and "tag lines" to make a movie "brilliant". Like a nation of Michael Scotts out there...minus the irony. I like Mike Judge, and this film was made in my hometown...but for some reason, I can't stand the actor Ron Livingston... About 75% in agreement. Can't stand Will Farrell (the unfunniest man alive, this side of Jim Carey, for me)....and "Star Trek" is ions better than "Star Wars"...but I haven't seen "Silver Linings Playbook"...but yeah, you are right, Jennifer Lawrence is kind of a hotty! I am not alone...loving this thread! Haven't seen "Battlefield Earth", so I can't comment...but am I the only person who didn't hate "Waterworld"? Didn't love it either, but far from the disaster it seems to be remembered as...and just interesting enough, conceptually to keep my attention for 2.5 hours...
  15. Charissa Thompson might have known something was coming...or ESPN just can't manage to hang on to their female talent... http://www.awfulannouncing.com/2013/may/charissa-thompson-is-leaving-espn-for-fox.html
  16. Eh...to each his own...
  17. Why? You think Cowherd gets tasered?
  18. "Mr Cowherd, please collect your belongings in this box and vacate the premises... the officer here will escort you out of the building, and to your vehicle..."
  19. Yeah, I remeber at the 2011 Rookie Premiere event, Dareus was wearing the red helmet and old, Donohoe era jersey, even though the Bills had already scrapped those uniforms...
  20. Can't wait for August!
  21. Star Trek > Star Wars.... but I gotta admitt, that was kind of cool. Feel like I have seen something similar on the interwebs over the years...
  22. Why don't they move the Pro Bowl to May...the Sunday of draft weekend?
  23. Another great track..."Build Me a Woman". How unusual this band had to sound when they were new.
  24. One of my favorite tracks, ever... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCaDjpwuh08 Got to meet John Densmore just a few weeks ago...he did a book signing at the music store I work at. Super nice guy... I know that he was in a decades long feud with Ray and Robbie Krieger, but from Densmore said, they had kind of patched things up...sounded like the notion was out there that they might work together again...alas....
  25. I am guessing that there are a few factors involved in this strategy, little of it having to do with football... I am not sure, but might they want to move the draft back a month to avoid conflict with student graduations? I don't understand all the nuances, but I believe there have been draft and NCAA conflicts over when a college player can officially participate in NFL functions. In recent years (and I don't recall this being an issue before) there have been numerous draft picks and un-signed college free agents who have been unable to participate in rookie "mini-camps" until their academic semester is officially over. So, you had rookie post-draft mini-camps, where high profile draft picks were unable to participate. Also, while May and July are lull months for the NFL, April is pretty busy with NBA and NHL playoffs in full swing....that is 32 pro sports teams taking attention away from the NHL in early April...move it to May, and you have fewer NBA and NHL teams involved in playoff races, so fewer eyeballs diverted from, lets' face it, has become a couch potatoes holiday, in the NFL draft. For me, it doesn't matter so much when the draft is (April or May, though I prefer April)...when they moved the first round of the draft to Thursday nights, the amount of time I have spent watching draft coverage has dissipated significantly. The first day of the draft (when it was on Saturday) used to be a big event...it was the first sort of off-season event that the Bills Backers group that I watch games with would meet, after the completion of the previous years regular season. Now, we don't really meet...Thursday nights killed it for most of us...I still pay attention to the draft, but I don't sit in front of the tv for hours listening to the endless speculation... I am more content to just tune in every two hours or so, and get a re-cap of what I "missed". Having the first round on seprate night (a work night, no less) and then the 2nd and 3rd rounds on Friday was deal breaker for me...and I will be damned if I am sitting around on Saturday to watch the late rounds....for me, anyways, the NFL had me with the draft, but they lost me...
