A lesson we can all learn, here. I've butted heads with a few people here over the years (including Chef), but have learned to respect, and enjoy hearing their opinions. I work with people all day whose political views I don't agree with, but I still think of them as friends. On an internet message board it is sometimes hareder to recognize that. Now, the cynical side of me thinks this is a desperate attempt by two celebs who are strongly id'd with their political stance trying to rehabilitate their images a bit. I will say, I think Penn is a far more talented actor/director than Kid Rock is a singer/rapper, or whatever the hell he fancys himself. As a leftie, I will normally support a film that Penn is involved with, because I think he is normally involved with quality projects. And, to some degree, I respect that he has put his money, where his mouth is over the years, for his pet poltical projects. I don't necessarily always agree with his poiltical points of view. He has made himself an easy target for conservatives when they want to deride "hollywood limousine liberals". Maybe I am giving a bit too much credit, but I have a hunch his motivations for wanting to rehab his mainstream image is to get his message heard... Working a bit in the music arena, I can say, Kid Rock seems to have been in a damage control mode the last year or so, as his stated poltical pov seems to have alienated a bit of his fan base. He has back-tracked on strongly worded anti-Obame rhetoric, which may have sounded great in front of a crowd, but didn't translate so well in regards to his "Q" rating.

Bill Polian on Jerry Hughes
Buftex replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ah...trading a third round draft disappointment for a first round draft disappointment seems like a decent idea to me. We have seen in sports over and over, sometimes a change of scenery is good for a player. I can see either, or both of these guys being productive NFL players. Personally, given the awful defensive schemes the Bills have been running, I am not sure how much of Shepperds seeming ineptness came from scheme/coahcing, and how much is lack of natural talent. He was a pretty good college player, on a great defensive team. -
Sabres announce Ron Rolston as Permanent HC

Well, the "interim" tag was taken off of his head coaching title. so I would assume he has a new, multi-year contract. Funny, your comment about him sounding like Darcy...I had GR on at work, and they kept saying that they had Rolston coming up for an interview...I got pulled away, and came back, and, I thought they were interviewing Rolston...he kept saying "Ron did a good job" or "Ron earned this opportunity"...for a minute, I thoght Rolston was talking about himself third person, and it was kind of creeping me out..I never imagined him being that kind of guy...then, I realized it was Darcy, who, you are right, sounds just like Rolston... once I realized I was really creeped out! -

If you take Rolston's job in Buffalo this past season, out of context of everything else that went on with the team, he didn't do a bad job. I will be curious to see the "real Rolston" come out, now that the job is his. Listening to this past season, if nothing else, he didn't seem afraid to call his team out when the effort wasn't there. This is Lindy & Darcy's roster, I will be curious to see what Rolston does with it. I got the impression he wasn't thrilled with some of the "vetran leadership" on the team he inheritted. I am willing to give the guy a shot, we have no other choice, I suppose, other than just not watching any more. All that said, I can't say that it is a super exciting move by the Sabres. I am more down on them bringnig Darcy back than I am giving Rolston a full-time shot. Darcy is getting, yet another, do-over...in my opinion, he hasn't really earned it. The franchise, under his direction has gotten progressively worse as time has worn on. Also, this is the first tarnishing of the Pegula ownership for me. It doesn't tell me that the teams "sole reason for existence is to win a Stanley Cup" or conjure up images of "hockey heaven"...it is just more of the same...a half-hearted attempt at "change". No "swinging for the fence", nothing to invigorate a base of, lets face it, what have been really great, patient, fans. As with the Bills, I love this team, but I feel like both franchises owe their fans more. I don't want to be too critical, because, who knows, maybe their will be a massive roster shake-up that will give us Stanley Cup fever again... but the move to Rolston, with his connection to Rochester, suggest, at least to me, this is going to be the slow paced re-build that guys like Vanek don't really want a part of. -
Mario Williams: no love for

From the article I linked and quoted, way back early in this thread: http://abclocal.go.c...ocal&id=9091798 "Court records say the "defendant never intended to marry plaintiff and used the relationship as a means to get to plaintiff's money and acquire gifts." Williams also alleges he purchased more than $230,000 in luxury items for his former fiancée and also gave her a credit card where he claims she charged more than $108,000 in less than a year." If the underlined part doesn't define her as a "gold-digger" I may be unclear of the concept. Of course, as you point out, that is just Mario's side of the story. Either way, as a few have pointed out, it really isn't a lot of our business... -
I will let you know in July when all of the Fantasy Football magazines are on the news stands!

Indeed! http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=9091798 Court records say the "defendant never intended to marry plaintiff and used the relationship as a means to get to plaintiff's money and acquire gifts." I am not sure if is off to a slow start, or a poor start...there have definitely been some good moments so far, but, it is feeling a little ramshackle or random. I don't mind dead end stories when they add to the characters personalities, but there just hasn't been much to sink your teeth into this season. I kind of feel like they may have gone to the well one too many times with the "crafty Draper" saves the company scenario... the whole scene at the end with Don, Ted Chaw and Peggy just felt a little false to me. Unless Don is already half way out the door, and we just don't know it yet. I think what is missing, for me anyways, is some sort of first hand perspecitive of where Dons' mind-set is. His character is always different, and reacts in ways you might not always expect...but you used to know where it was coming from. Now, it just seems like a collection of scenes without a lot of threads tying them together. Without the threads, characters like Pete become more irrititating than interesting. I have also been thinking they have been trying a little too hard to force historical referneces into the storyline...and I used to think they did it seamlessly, like it didn't detract from the script. I wonder if Weiner and company had intended this angle from the outset of the series...I have my doubts. The JFK assasination episode packed a wallop (one of the best hours of the show) but I wonder if it didn't make the writers "too aware" of history. It seems like they are already laying out the groundwork for the RFK assasination... Maybe I am just being too nit-picky, but I hold this show in the elite category... perhaps the new "merger" will invigorate things...but this has not been my favorite season so far.

Yes, it is the same chick. I remember, because I have a friend with the same last name as her. As for what happned? I guess true love can't conquer all...including living in Buffalo! I kid, I kid..may move back there myself at some point! -
I have a bunch...but rarely wear any of them...if I do, definitely a blue Spielman jersey...not so much because he is my favorite Bill of all time (I like him, but he is always a Lion to me), but it fits me best... when I am doing laundry, and down to no clean cloths, it is a road Bledsoe jersey. I have about 18 jerseys, but the only two authentic are Jim Kelly (Mitchell & Ness) Joe Cribbs (Mithcell & Ness- one of my all-time very favorites!) and a Donte Whitner, which I got dirt cheap...I never wear any of them because I find them horribly uncomfortable...it is always muggy where I live, even if it is cool. The replicas (or whatever you call them..the ones with the painted on numbers rather than sewn on) are much more comfortable, and cheaper! I haven't purchased a new one in a few years...I swore, no more, until the Bills started posting more wins than losses....stuck to my guns so far. This past February, when Terrence McGee was released, I officially have no jerseys of anyone on the Bills current roster....

To me, Joe Buscaglia is GR's "unsung hero"! It seems people normally come here only to rip on the GR personalities (some of it warranted), so I think it is important to recognize the guys who do a good job, as well...I am certain they read these forums. I don't get to hear a lot of Murphys' complete shows, but I do access segments on the "audio vault" frequently. I always like interviews with former players...particularly some of the more obscure guys (like Marlon Kerner). From what I have heard, Murphy does a great job with these segments. I wish they would do more of that kind of thing on the Sabres show in the morning, which I can normally listen to live. Guests are crucial...IMO.

All great songs, no doubt...for me, it was "Color Me Impressed"!

Current NBA player comes out...Jason Collins
Buftex replied to Buftex's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I guess it depends on how you define "hero"... but lets face it, you aren't a closeted gay male athlete (I don't think?), so, obviously he wouldn't be a "hero" to you, or most anyone else here. There is no doubt that things get overstated nowadays, but consider, maybe his "coming out" in a male team sport makes it easier for some high school kid in the future to play a team sport, not having to worry about keeping his essence a secret, or being subjected to humiliation. To that kid, Collins might be a "hero", and what business does anyone else have telling him otherwise? As much as this thing may be overstated by the media (lets face it, what isn't overstated by the media in this day and age?), it seems many are going out of their way to make it seem as if it is just some insignificant moment. -
Who would you place at all time best LB?
Buftex replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to go LT...or Jack Lambert. I am old enough to have seen Butkus, but, for some reason I don't really remember seeing him much...guess we didin't get a lot Bears games back then. I don't feel qualified to have an opinion on him, though no doubt he was great. The guys I have seen, Lambert and Taylor... -

Those are pretty cool...can't wait for the release...but, is it just me? They couldn't have possibly taken photos of all these guys in their Bills uniforms just yet...photo-shop!

Very cool. I am a bit of collector. The 1989 Score football set is kind considered the king of modern sports sets (or maybe just football sets)...prior to 1989, only Topps put out football cards. In 1989, the NFL gave liscence to Score and Pro Set, to also produce cards...it opened up the floodgates, for better or worse... what a fool I am...I remember when Pro Set and Score issued their sets. IMO, the Pro Set cards were so much nicer...bold colors, great action shots... I thought the Score were just dull....I was moving out of may apartment in NY, and had embarassing size piles of both...not giving it any thought, I tossed the Score cards into the trash, and kept all the Pro Set. Today, just to give you an idea of what a bad decision that was, a Score Barry Sanders (the kind of the set, along with Troy Aikman Deon Sanders, Derrick Thomas and Thurman rookies), ungraded, can fetch you anywhere form $20 to $40 (used to be much higer) on EBAY. Am mint, graded Sanders goes for about $120. A Pro Set rooke Barry Sanders, wll get you $3 if you are lucky.... A complete 550 card 1989 Score set goes for about $60 now (used to be as high as $300), while a complet 600 card Pro Set set can be had for about $10! I still think they are much nicer to look at, but Pro Set just over-produced them, so there was a gluttonous amount out there, and as more nicer stuff came out they just lost their value...

Bingo! That is why this is a much bigger deal than some of you seem to realize. The Jackie Robinson comparisons might be a little over-dramatic, but they are appropriate in some ways. The first makes it easier for the second, third, so on and so forth. There are plenty of celebrites who have "come out" over the years, so as been said, it is no big deal. There have been few athletes...and we usually remember who they are. There is a reason for that too... -
Jay...did you design these yourself? The Score 2013 cards are not out yet...or do you have connections? Pretty sweet...same design as the 1989 Score.

Johnny Marr performing 'How Soon Is Now' on Fallon
Buftex replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It isn't all that mysterios...Morrissey has an ego the size of the grand canyon...besides it sounds like Morrissey is pretty sickly these days. http://www.rollingst...eunite-20121002 That is a pretty nice version of "How Soon Is Now"... I was a little disappointed with Marr's "first" solo album though. Love his guitar work, but his voice, and the songs for that matter, are just kind of there, nothing remarkable. I always kind of wished the paring of he and Chrissie Hynde had been a more long-term thing. Two artists I love, but in need of a collaborator.
