Site has 5 Bills games listed as the worst of 2013 NFL season
Buftex replied to McD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, but naming the 5 worst games of a football season that doesn't start for another 5 months is pretty moronic...I can be as down on the Bills as anyone sometimes, but really? I hope nobody got paid money to sit an opine about this type of thing. It has nothing to do with how good or bad the Bills, or any other team are...how many games have been hyped as the "game of the century" in the spring, only to be duds in the fall? Remember that game a few years ago (2010 was it?) where the Bills were supposed to get absolutely destroyed by the Ravens in Baltimore? Yeah, they lost, but it was in overtime, and it was a great football game. -
Here there is a popular expression "American by birth, Texan by the grace of God" for those born here, and "Texan By Choice" for us transplants....I want to get a shirt that says "Texan out of apathy"

Definitely the best of the Next Gen movies... but I wouldn't say great. Maybe I take my Trek too seriously, but it was a little too hoakey at points...and by that time, the Borg (maybe the greatest contribution to the Star Trek universe for the Next Generation) were kind of neutered. Of course, I haven't seen it in years...maybe I need to go back and watch it. What I really didn't like about the Next Generation movies as a whole (and why none of them are "great") was that they were not true to the series. The series, particularly for its' time, was pretty high-minded and intelligent. The movies, I suppose to appeal to a wider audience, lost the greatness of the characters that had been so greatly put together over seven years of the series. They ruined the Data character, for no real reason. The original Star Trek (still the best..with DS9 right behind...and TNG close at #3) could get away with this more. The original series, also ahead of it's time, was not as complex as Next Generation, so the bar could be raised, or not and most would be happy.

What Is Your Favorite Submarine Movie?
Buftex replied to SWVABillsFan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yellow Submarine....of course! -
The "Next Generation" were not awful, but not great either...but the one scene that always stood out was the saucer crashing in "Generations" It was one of the more memorable scenes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N80w_7XbV-M

Eagles release Trent Edwards

Mike Willams is far from the worst offender in this area... -
Yes, they are pre-empting their 200th re-broadcast of the "Immacualate Reception" special, and a "Top Ten Ankle Tape Jobs Of All-time".... Funny is, they do this every year...it is obviously done for a reason...I just can't figure out what that reason is. Create a buzz? I suppose. As one who works on Thursday nights, this, along with the first round of the draft (especially that) being bumped to Thursday nights, not to mention the full slate of Thursday night regular season games is just a bummer. For about 10 years, me and some friends would get toghether on Saturdays for the NFL draft early rounds...but no longer. to the NFL and their cleverness!

New uniforms leaked? Have we discussed this already?
Buftex replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have had lots of uniforms threads over the years...but now we are disecting which shade of blue is the best? Uniform threads have jumped the shark.. Definative opinion: Current uniforms, minus the stupid collars, would be perfecto! End of discussion! -
Great poster...

Rapaport: don't expect Byrd to show up to workouts
Buftex replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know if it is just a case of just "Buddy being Buddy" or if it some sort of message being sent, but in the AP article posted today, Buddy says: ''There's been some contact and we're making an effort to try to get a long-term deal done with Jairus,'' Nix said. ''But you know - and I don't mean this in a bad way - I haven't given it much thought. I don't mean that we're not interested, because we certainly need him and eventually he'll probably be here. But there's nothing we can do except try to get a contract done. If it doesn't work, then the ball's in his court. He comes when basically he gets ready.'' To me, that sounds like posturing, like Nix knows there is going to be some turbulence before/if a deal does get done. "We'd like to keep him here, but I am not losing sleep over it..." Yes, that is the way I understand it. So, if he is declining to sign the tender, that feels, to me, like he either wants a lot more money than anything the Bills are talking about, or he wants to force a trade... -

If I am not mistaken, he can sign the franchise tag, and can negotiate a new long-term deal at the same time. -

I know Byrd is considered good, but would anyone give up two #1 picks for him? -
I am hoping for Patterson at #1, and a QB #2. I would also be fine if they had to trade up into the later first round for their QB, Ryan Nassib or whoever. Of course, I don't know anything about anything, so it is all a crap-shoot!

Seven reasons why Chip Kelly left Oregon?
Buftex replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"That's just me" x2. I can watch a college game, and be mildly entertained...but I could almost care less about it because it is just too hard to take seriously, for me, even for a sport. The rules, and the NCAA governing body are just a huge turn-off for me, among many other things. -
He has skills. I really think it is tough to really scrutinize some of these guys (especially the corners) when the front 7 was so ineffective for most of the year. I think he, and McKelvin, both, just suffered the snow-ball effect from playing in bad schemes with verylimited talent around them. I still think Leodis can be a top flight corner. Williams played college ball here, and still does a lot of promtion and charity events in Austin. I think he is a good kid...but it is hard for some of these really young guys to take a lot of criticism while they are learning on the job. I don't think he relishes his role as whipping boy too much.

Have you ever worn Bills gear to an away game?
Buftex replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I always wear a t-shirt...nothing too outlandish. I have a bunch of jerseys, but I rarely wear them. After Terrence McGee was released, I have about 20 jerseys, all of former Bills. The only one I ever wear anymore is a Chris Spielman...not so much cuz he is my favorite (though I do like him a lot), but becuase it is one of the older ones that I have that fits me well...also the most beat up one. Not a Bills game, but when I was living in NYC (mid-80's to early 90's) I went to a Celtics/Knicks playoff game at MSG. I am a huge Celtics fan. Tickets in the nose-bleeds were a fortune, but worth it, IMO. I went with my girlfriend (new girlfriend at the time)...it was a bit chilly out...we were there about an hour before tip-off (wanted to see Bird & Co at shoot-around)...I swear, I had my jacket off for about 2 minutes, wearing a Celtics green t-shirt...we were pelted with garbage..my girlfrined (long, beautiful hair) was wearing the remanents of a half eaten hot-dog with mustard in her hair the rest of the evening. It wasn't fun...the Celtics lost (Bird missed a game-tying shot at the end), I still cheered, and my gf was nervous the whole time. We moved to Texas a few years later...I was here (Austin) for the two Super Bowls against the Cowboys. I remember one chilly January morning, the week of the Super Bowl, my gf was looking for a jacket to wear to walk to the corner store in. I offered her up my Bills jacket.."no way" she said! -
It is so odd to me, every year the schedule release is so shrouded in mystery...I could have sworn I had heard it would come out today...now Thursday...damn you NFL!

FWIW- when I moved this here, my listing went from having 22 views to 126 in the space of about 20 minutes...the power of The Stadium Wall!!! -
Rapaport: don't expect Byrd to show up to workouts
Buftex replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he is franchised, he is "getting paid"... I realize, players want long-term deals...but it is very possible, that franchising a player is simply a means of buying more time to get a long trem deal done. It may not seem fair, but the guys are hardly going to go hungry, especially if they are franchised. What so few of them seem to realize (and it may not be fair, but it is fact the way the CBA is set up) the longer the deal they sign, the more money the contract is worth, the less likely they see that money, and it only helps to ensure that if they are on a bad team that doesn't win much, they are increasing the chance that things will remain that way...so they may get more money for a year or two, but in the end, they will not likely be a lot better off. Also, I realize I was critical of Byrd earlier in this thread and maybe I stated it poorly. I like Byrd, would love to see him stay....but, I think his worth to the Bills, in their current mess, is a little overrated. I know, we would love to keep good players...but in the NFL time is money...and the Bills have financial considerations (self-imposed or not) that other NFL teams aren't concerned with. I also think, sometimes, when a guy becomes the "best free agent safety (or whatever position) available" that tends to get translated as "the best" overall. Honestly, all this is speculation at this point,,, until we hear from Byrd (or more likely his agent) we really don't know his intentions. -

Eagles release Trent Edwards
Buftex replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought Trent was going to be decent, early on...but honeslty, he lacked the intangibles that made Chad Pennington good, prior to all of his many injuries. When he first came off the bench, he seemed to have much more control than JP did at that point..and it seemed like he was steady, if not spectacular, in comparison. If you were rooting for him, it was easy to argue that he was making slow progress...but all that went out the window after that hit..he was awful. In the end, he was about as effective as Kelly Holcomb (remember him? )... he wouldn't make the "big, dumb play" like JP, but he also couldn't pull off the occaisional spectacular play that JP could make. Honestly, I thought Trent was an ex-Eagle a while ago. -
