He has better chance of being an impact player this year if he stays out of trouble than Goodwin. Ive seen alot of goodwin... He is like Roscoe, but faster straight line speed without all the jukes. Also, he hands are not great and i could only see him being used for a bubble screen or a bomb. REALLY needs to work on his route running and like i said b4, hands are below average. We will def. be using a lot of 4 WR sets considering we did nothing at TE. CJ or sometimes Freddy but with this staff, they wont have the loyalty to Freddy than Chan did. Freddy is better blocker than CJ and i;d rather him in backfield in 4 WR sets being blocking back. Our sets will feature SJ13 and Woods out wide and TJ and Goodwin in the slot. However, i think we would be more effective having SJ13 in 1 of the slots opposite TJ cuz SJ13 is great route runner and perfect fit in a fast paced west coast style offense with will involve a bunch of slants over middle when Stevie would excel at. In doing so, Rodgers would look GREAT at other outside WR. It's gonna be a VERY fun training camp this year. Gonna have LOTS of battles for positions. I'm hoping Kiko can start from day 1. Shepp was just useless and this opens door for Kiko to get more time on the field in OTA's possibly with some first team reps which he would not have seen had we not made trade for Hughes. Also, Hughes could be unsung bonus this year rushing off the edge. Either way, i like his upside over Shepp's and hes a pass rusher. U can NEVER have too many of those! Here's to optimism!! GO BILLS!!

OR..... the next Travis Henry off the field! Either way, no risk, as UDFA, was brilliant move. 1 thing is for certain, we will not lack explosiveness on offense anymore! EJ/ Kolb (if they start him at beginning of year) just got some fun new toys to play with! After seeing the draft, its clear why they did not keep Nelson who at the time, i felt was an "odd" release due to his size and strong hands. This coaching staff wants SPEED.

Rd 6, Pick #177: K Dustin Hopkins - FSU

I posted in the 5th round thread that if we were gonna use a pick on a safety which made no sense after drafting duke and having Searcy who we invested early round pick on and with the chat of them moving Aaron Williams over there who was also a 2nd rounder, to use a luxury pick... USE IT ON HOPKINS! got it right, round later! Think this was very smart pick. Lindell was solid few years ago but fact we wasted a valuable roster spot first bunch of the of games last year on a kickoff specialist is bezerk! Also, with Lindell not even having 50 range, his time has past... Hopkins will be a Bill and consistent for 10 years and will save at least an injury or 2 on kickoffs and make teams start out with touchbacks more often than not! Only head scratcher was 5th rounder.. other than that, its been a great draft! Could really have used a Guard in 5th.. good spot for a depth guard who can develop -

I got that one right! -
We need to re-sign Byrd.. top 5 safety in league... Started this thread cuz of my worry of Aaron. I met the guy early last year when i came up to Buffalo, i give Stevie a lot of his eyewear so he gave me some tickets. Met Aaron when i was in town and was a douche.. Very full of himself and not very intelligent. Maybe its just personal and dont like the guy or maybe cuz it was so frustrating watching guy get burned, time and time again but i was really hoping he would make move to safety. Only positive i see in guy is hes a pretty solid tackler which gave me hope for him in a SS role that hovered around LOS. I'm hoping he takes last years demotion personally and grows up and lives up to be the player they drafted, but i doubt thats the case...

If we were gonna really reach and "waste" pick, should have been Hopkins K FSU.. NEED to upgrade lindell -
With us drafting 2 safeties and no corners, i'd assume Pettine has decided to leave him at corner. With Byrd being a star at FS, and with Searcy who was a high pick and played pretty good in spot duty last year. Certainly no worse than Wilson who had no business ever being a safety. Had couple lucky picks early on and he is "good team guy" but NOT a starting safety! Duke Williams is was a GREAT pick... kid can fly and can really hit and will probably be in mix with Searcy for starting gig. And he did re-sign Scott who is more of a safety than a LB and will probably earn a roster spot as a vet and a guy that is flexible in terms of position in case of injuries. The kid they got out of Clemson has no business being drafted! I watch a ton of college ball and seen alot of Clemson games and never heard of him! Gonna be just a special teams guy at best. With us drafting no corners, nor adding any via FA, that leaves us with last years group (minus Mcgee who wasnt ever healthy anyway). With teams using so many multiple WR sets, Gilmore is our clear cut 1. I would assume Mcluvin was resigned to be 2/3rd corner which is pretty much same thing nowadays cuz Nickel back is on field over 50% of plays, i'd think Williams and Brooks who be in the mix for for other spots and those 4 would be our top 4 CB's... Not great... I'm hoping we get someones cap casualty, a vet with few good years left via FA. Guys like that tend to become available quite often, and with our current grouping... i wouldnt feel too comfortable..

4th round options (merged threads)

YES 2 this! Dustin Hopkins! the last few kickers to come out have been great and hit over 50 with ease. ESPECIALLY in Buffalo, he need a strong leg. The fact we wasted a roster spot at start of year on a KICKOFF SPECIALIST is NUTS!!! If your kicker is average at BEST (Lindell WAS good but simply does not have the range anymore) and u can get a kid like Hopkins from FSU and have your kicker in place for next 10 years is a no brainer. Marrone is gonna go all out to score points, and gonna need a guy that can kick the ball out of end zone and have teams start out with a touchback rather than a return and a kicker than can kick from over 50 if a drive stalls. This would be a GREAT idea! and im sure Hopkins would love to come on board with EJ! -
Rd 3, Pick #78: WR Marquise Goodwin - Texas
RCOHEN13 replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not a Graham clone at all... i've seem him play a lot of times and saw him in olympics.. This is fastest guy in NFL... He's more a bigger Roscoe PArrish with less juking and just pure break away speed. I see a lot of 4 WR sets with him and SJ13 n slots and Woods and Graham outside and SC in backfield... With Stevie and Woods doing the dirty work, those 3 other guys can score a TD from anywhere on the field. I see Marrone's offense playing a Chip Kelly style.. If i were Chip, and would have known he would have this kind of speed to work with... he would have drolled over this job.. We dont know how anything will pan out obviously, but this regime has sure made it clear, we want SPEED and ATHLETICISM... even loving the alonso pick.. Guy is very big for an ILB... seeing alot of them come off board in 2nd 2nd and seeing their measurabilities.. i was a bit shocked to see how most were barely pushing 6 feet and some under.. London Fletcher type guys.. Alonso has same kind of speed as others, but is a big boy.. he's like 6'3 (depending what source? how hard is it to get a damn height correct! LOL) He may play a bit wreckless, but thats the scheme he played in.. if he can be coached properly, and i think we have a great guy in Pettine is DC, i think he will start day 1 along side Shepp in middle of 3-4 and be the guy to break piles with his ferociousness and free Shepp to make plays without blockers on him. Dont forget, Shepp was 1 of the leaders on the LSU dominant D.. he has not lived up to expectations yet, but only 3rd yr, and we will actually have a REAL scheme along with some real talent on this D.. I'm hoping we can pick up a vet CB later in FA, and very optimistic about our draft so far. -
Rd 1, Pick #16: QB EJ Manuel - Florida St.
RCOHEN13 replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hunter and Ertz would be way to go at WR and TE... i LOVE Kielse but think he can be had in 3rd and maybe go D with other 2nd rounder. But WR is a must with 1 of our 2 2nd round selections -
Not disagreeing Lacy is a stud RB, i've watched every Bama game last year.. But fact is... this is a gonna be a shotgun, up tempo offense.. We will be using the read option and think Manuel IS by far the best fit for it. We need weapons on outside.. EJ has a big arm and can stretch the field which will HUGELY benefit CJ and Stevie is a possession WR. Hunter is the PERFECT fit and really hope we land him with 1 of 2 picks, but using the other on a RB makes zero sense, even though Lacy is worthy of selection. Hopefully, someone snags him ahead of us. He came in with a 1st round grade and can easily see his name being one of 1st names called this evening. I'd love to see us grab a TE along with best WR available (hunter hopefully!). If not Hunter, Allen would be next best fit along with Woods
-
Kiper has us taking Hunter and Lacy with our 2 picks in his 2nd round mock posted today... Why in the world would we take Lacy??? We have CJ, Freddy and even Choice is a "solid" 3rd RB and RB is easiest position to find mid to late round wonders. With us using our first on Manuel, who may not start from day 1, we desperately NEED 2 STARTERS with these 2 picks.. Hunter would be a great compliment to SJ13 on other side. Kid is HUGE and can fly, is deep threat we need. With no other QB;s going in 1st, i could easily see 2 possibly 3 QB's going in first half of 2nd round. Meaning, we could easily get our highest rated player cuz obviously Qb;s coming off board ahead of us, has no effect on our big board. I'm really hoping we snag a WR with 1 of 2 picks and either a LB, DB or Ertz if he's out there. I'd love to see Ertz and Hunter in a Bills uniform working with Manuel, CJ, SJ13 and co.. Here's to a great day 2! GO BILLS!

So far us and Oak are the big winners... Most mocks had Oak taking a DT at 3 and us a Qb at 8 and we BOTH may end up with the guy we would have taken at our original spots and collected an extra 2nd. That extra 2nd for us is HUGE... this is a very deep draft and we should be able to get 2 starters with our 2 2nd's. -

LOL! good one! -
FYI... ir wasnt a "true" mock draft. I have ESPN insider as well and saw it when it came out. He says at start, He is basing his predictions to each team in terms of big board value, not what he thinks teams will do exactly. Hence Nassib in 3rd round. I'd love this scenario and get Ansah who would be such a weapon and wreak havoc on D cuz this year with a real DC who knows what the word BLITZ means and we will have alot of shifting, stunts etc on that side of ball, i expect a top 10 D this yr. Ansah would be a 8-10 sack guy as pass rush specialist and be used like Aldon Smith in his rookie year. BUT... i highly doubt Ansah is there at 8 and if he is.. he have much more pressing needs in 1st round. AFC east will be as tough as ever with Phins re-tooling via FA and getting their QB last year and with Jets now have a top 10 AND top 15 pick.. i can see Rex going heavy on D knowing he MUST show he is the Defensive guru now that Pettine is gone and most of talent that led them deep in playoffs few years ago in his 1st 2 years as HC.

The official 2013 Bills Schedule discussion thread
RCOHEN13 replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Week 1, at home vs the Pats! IF (and thats a HUGE IF) we can somehow find a way to beat Pats, i think this years schedule is perfect set-up. Season opener at home, with new crew, we will have some tricks up our sleeves! Best possible scenario is having our home game vs Pats as season opener when Brady will be without Welker for 1st time... Gronk and Hernandez are both hobbled so the "usual suspects" who can carved us up twice a year wont all be there. With it being season opener, ANYTHING can happen... Also love the fact that our week 17 match-up is in Foxboro. Good chance Pats will be playing for nothing as usual on week 17. At least if we stink it up, we wont "need" that game and if we are somehow alive and still in hunt.. good chance Brady and co. are playing for nothing and get their B squad.. Here's to optimism!! GO BILLS! -
Did anyone $&^@ this team more last year than Dave Wannstedt?
