Kill a couple birds with one stone, name Fitz the offensive coordinator. It would get him off the field and he has to be as smart as anyone the Bills have had on the sideline in years. (Don't get your panties in a wad, it is sarcasm).

Wow. Some people don't give up when the ship has sunk. We didn't lose every game because of Noodle Arm, but he was as big a problem as the defense was. They went through a 5 or 6 game span where the defense played as good as anyone did, but we still lost most of those games, in large part because of Fitz, not entirely, but in large part. The QB is the most important player on the team and when yours sucks, you are most likely going to suck along with him.

Bills hire Mike Pettine of the Jets as DC???
BuffBill replied to LiterateStylish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My only question would be, all this guy has ever coached is the 3-4, would we be switching again? It killed this franchise and set it back a few years last time they did. -
Package Jackson and our first + third round picks
BuffBill replied to mellaman101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nobody would make that trade, and Spiller needs to be the starter, but he can't play full time, won't happen, can't happen. He can't be used up the gut at the goal line, he fumbles too often when he takes a hit. He has improved on his pass blocking, but still not in the same universe as Fred Jackson when it comes to pass blocking. You have to give more then that if you wanted to move too high up, but Jackson wouldn't be in a deal. Is there really anything in the draft that you would give up to move very far up? Exactly, the time to do that was in last years draft, but these idiots at OBD convinced themselves that FItz was an NFL caliber quarterback. Now that they figured out what most people knew 2 years ago, and that they need a QB, there really isn't anything great out there. Good job Buddy. -
Helpful Hints for new Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone

Don't talk with a southern drawl, one per organization should be the limit. -
Helpful Hints for new Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone
BuffBill replied to TheKickIsGood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would add, Don't sign a home lease for anything more than 3 years, that is all you will be here. -
He will get fired after 3 anyway so whats the difference?

Who really thinks Nix is in charge with this hire?
BuffBill replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Nix had much to do with it either. It was a money move, and not just the salary. The Bills have been trying for years to get the Syracuse area molded into their fanbase, so what better way then to take their .500 winning percentage coach in one of the, if not the weakest conferences in the NCAA. It obviously isn't just because he is the right man to turn this mess around. -
Bills hire Doug Marrone to be Head Coach
BuffBill replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is one thing that has always been annoying on TBD, if I typed on here that today is monday even though every newspaper and Sports news show is saying it is monday, someone is going to come on and LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK......... It would be different if it was the only place that bit of info was being heard from, but it is just the opposite in this case. -
Was it an extra jersey or extra woman that he found laying around the apartment? Hey, you know how those rich athletes get all the women they want. What is the big deal? If there was a baby bottle full of milk in the background would it be an issue?

If I'm a HC candidate and I look at the Bills, what do I see?
BuffBill replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was actually referring to the depth after the 1-2 as a negative, since it seems that 75% of the time one of them two are injured. I didn't list the city, I could have, but if the job, roster, salary is right, not sure the location really matters too much to most coaches, at least it would take a far back seat to winning for me. -
Who do you want to win the Super Bowl?
BuffBill replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Patriots get knocked out their first game, that would be the next best thing to the Bills being in the post season. I kinda would like to see the Broncos win it, have always liked and respected Peyton Manning a total class act. A little part of me, as hard as it was, was rooting for Dallas just so Brian Moorman could bring his Super Bowl ring to Buffalo and grind it in Buddy Nix's Metamucil. -
Per CBSSports, Bills coaching candidate names emerging...
BuffBill replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In all seriousness, who is out there with a better proven track record that would actually come here? Most of the candidates that people are high on are coaches who people "think" can be great NFL coaches? Do we want that when we half of our roster is already players that fit that description? You are nuts. The Bills haven't hired a coach with a resume even close to that since they hired Chuck Knox ages ago. We have tried the up and coming coordinators with Mularkey and Williams. We have tried the retread route with Jauron and Gailey. Why not try someone who is actually carrying a resume with some NFL success as a head coach in it? His Super Bowl appearance, division titles and winning records aside, the fact that he kept a job for 9 seasons in a football crazed city should speak volumes by itself. -
I hope the hello you are correct, but I wouldn't bet my paycheck on it.
-
The word is that shortly after he was fired he stated he was interested in the Buffalo job. Why who knows? Maybe with all the underachieving, highly paid, talented players on defense and him being a defensive coach interested him.

If I'm a HC candidate and I look at the Bills, what do I see?
BuffBill replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The job probably isn't all that attractive to a big name coach like Cowher, but to someone trying to get their first HC job in the NFL or a second gig after a not so successful first gig, no NFL head coaching job is bad. If I were a candidate I would see: Positives: -A really good situational game breaking running back in Spiller -A young yet promising, good but inconsistent and sometimes injury prone offensive line (if they resign Levitre, otherwise this drops down to the Negatives. -A rabid fan base, who if the team is even slightly successful will be as loud and active as any in the NFL. -Some young defensive players with alot of potential (Gilmore, Bradham, Dareus)-need to resign Byrd. -A potentially dominating defensive line, which to this point has underperformed and has been injuryprone. -have a young speedy receiver (Graham) that might amount to something if the team gets a QB that can get the ball to him downfield, otherwise he is of almost no use. Negatives: -Not a single quarterback on the roster from 2012 that I would even want on a roster in 2013. And not much in the draft or free agency to be super excited about. -A super #2 receiver/good #1 reciever (Johnson), and not alot of proven depth after him. -Tight End situation with Chandler's injury not good. -A defense while one of the highest paid in the league, is one of the worst and has been for a few years. -A 70 something year old GM who hasn't been very impressive and hasn't done real good in 3 drafts now outside of a couple picks. -2 of the better young talents on the team are about to become free agents if not resigned (Byrd & Levitre). -A very good 1-2 punch at running back, but Jackson has had health problems and Spiller has also flirted with injuries. Depth at this position isn't good, especially when one of the 1-2 are injured. Choice is gone with Gailey, the only reason he was on the roster to begin with. -Play in a division with Belichick and the Patriots, and it seems like forever since the Bills have won more then 1 or 2 divisional games in the same season. -A losing atmosphere around the organization and even bigger problem a losing reputation around the league, which in most cases prevents big name free agents from coming here unless they are severely over paid. -Probably the most hungry and impatient fanbase (have been patient for way too long) in the NFL with the leagues longest (by 4 years I think) playoffless streak. -
I wouldn't mind that hire, at least he has a history of winning. Why bring in another coach (Whisenhunt) whose record over the past 3 season is only a couple games better then Gailey's?
-
Then I guess they should be looking at Brian Billick, he won a Super Bowl with probably the weakest quarterback to ever win one.
-
Coughlin has only been a head coach in two places, he has two Super Bowl trophies in NY and took a second year expansion team to the AFC Championship game in just their second year in existence (including beating the Bills at Rich Stadium in Jim Kelly's last game). Belicheck had a good team in Cleveland that won 11 games then was in first place in 1995 when it was announced that the team was moving to Baltimore and never recovered. He could have turned the Browns in to a Super Bowl Champ. Alot of coaches are successful after one or two unsuccessful runs as HC (Marv Levy in KC), but your two are poor examples.
-
That Browns team he coached was on the verge of being real good, with a great staff. They won 11 games in 1994 and were in first place in 1995 when Modell announced the team was moving, think they only won one more game all year after that. That staff has a bunch of current GMs, NFL Head Coaches and NCAA Coaches (Sabin). He could have won with that team. He also had a long track record of being successful as a assistant coach and coordinator (2 Super Bowl wins with the Giants, 1 Super Bowl appearance with the Patriots against the Packers), and a bunch of other successful stints.

I was real surprised they didn't interview him 3 years ago when he was available. Not sure if there is something we don't know about him, since he has kinda bounced around since he got fired in New Orleans 7 or 8 years ago, even coaching in the UFL. I wouldn't say Washington's defense is phenomenal, but it is playing much better the second half of the season, and that is without their best player (Orakpo). Would love to see Haslett come back to Buffalo where he was a fan favorite, but I think he might be better suited to come back as the defensive coordinator. The memory I will always have of him (besides talking to him in the parking lot) is when he stepped on Terry Bradshaw's helmetless bald head and got tossed. Marv didn't just "happen" upon Buffalo. He gave Polian a job in the CFL, which was his connection to being hired here. I love how people give no credit to Levy for what his teams accomplished? Go ask Kelly, Reed, Thurman or anyone else is Levy had anything to do with it.

I have to agree, it is quite surprising his name hasn't been coming up in any of job openings discussions. All season long when the subject came up his name did also, but since the firings occured, not one mention of his name. I don't think he would be a bad option at all here when you consider how much talent ($$) we have on defense and how putrid they performed.

I think you keep Fred and draft a back maybe in the 4th round or so. Freddy has been on the IR but not the nagging type of injuries, but the freakish ones that could happen to anyone. It has been 2 and a half months, and I still don't believe how quick he came back from the injury in the opening game against the Jets, i thought he was a goner looking at that hit.
