  1. The other 26 teams the Sabres never get to play? Only about 6 teams get to play the Sabres... How did the League not see something like this coming?... I guess the Sabres get an excuse. It's like Groundhog Day out there. Who do they play next?
  2. πŸ˜†... But there's no tolls at any Federal lock in the US! Industry pays the fees for the average Joe. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜œπŸ˜˜ Getting ordered around is better free! You can take your chances in Somalia πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ or Yemen πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡ͺ!
  3. It's the 1st time canal transit fee that dings you for $2 grand. The Egyptians don't trust green sailors!πŸ˜‰πŸ˜
  4. FYI: @BringBackFergy @Gugny I am hard @ work calculating what it would cost Gugny to bring his 16' deep-V boat through the Suez Canal south from the Mediterranean Sea. Let me know if my numbers are correct. Lowest I can enter is 1m draft and 1 ton each for Suez Canal Net Tonnage (SCNT) and 1 ton for Gross Vessel Tonnage (GRT)... https://www.wilhelmsen.com/tollcalculators/suez-toll-calculator/ The bad news is Gug, your transit toll will be: $6,465.38. BUT, the good news is, your dingy qualifies for a 65% rebate! You save: $3,555.96! for a grand total toll of: $2,909.42! Good deal!!!! Happy sailing β›΅πŸ’“!
  5. πŸ˜†πŸ€£ "Henry David Thoreau might have had a harder time connecting with nature if the Ever Given was stuck in Walden Pond" β€”Mark Gartsbeyn / Ever Given Ever Ywhere, Esri, Maxar
  6. https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2021/03/29/suez-cargo-ship-ever-given-viral-app-boston-public-library-curator/amp "The enormous cargo ship plugging up the Suez Canal was set free after nearly a week Monday, but now you can customize your own catastrophic global blockage of world trade thanks to a web app made by a staffer at the Boston Public Library. If that floats your boat. Garrett Dash Nelson, a curator at the library’s Leventhal Map & Education Center, whipped up the applet Sunday morning between cups of coffee. It lets you place an aerial image of the Ever Given over satellite imagery anywhere. ..."
  7. Thing is, it wasn't just the "mud." I read the bow was stuck on rock. FWIW... Not really simple... Try to get it unstuck one way, it gets stuck deeper the other way. Or, like trying to go through a 3 foot door opening with a 5 foot 2x4 length wise. The ship is 300m long, the width of the canal is 203m. Ships are simply getting too big for it... They probably need to dig an emergency lane? πŸ˜‰
  8. Probably didn't want to unload it so as to unbalance it... I guess there's a systematic way to unload those containers... Counter balance it with filling the ballast tanks? ??? Why they just didn't rush in and start unloading containers... Would be worse.
  9. Wasn't the load acting as ballast? Why would there be anything else acting as ballast other than fuel?
  10. "We didn't start the fire It was always burning, since the world's been turning We didn't start the fire No, we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it..." Anyway... It may have been human error: https://nypost.com/2021/03/28/human-error-may-be-behind-ship-blocking-suez-canal-authorities/amp/ Blame the Indians... The whole crew I believe is being worked by Indian Nationals... You think πŸ€”... ??? Ain't just call centers folks? Cheapest labor wins!
  11. That's not bad! But, that's a BIG boat! I wonder if Moses had knowledge of that way back when? πŸ˜‰ If you look closely at the map of the world tides... It looks like it's more pronounced @ Suez... Anyway, the boat is stuck inland, wonder what the effect is?
  12. 4x... Dog's name was Major and he was getting outta the shower nekkid... Can happen to anyone when you move too fast. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜œπŸ˜˜
  13. Lotta things in play... Here's a map. Confirms my hunch that the Suez Canal has low pronounced tidal variation: Blue is low, red high tidal variation Stay in your lane people! πŸ˜†πŸ€£πŸ˜‚
  14. Yes! But it may be like waiting for the Sabres to score, even worse, win a game! πŸ˜‰ Looks like they are screwed in Egypt. Suez is only @ 30Β° N. The tides at the lower latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere are not as pronounced as the are at higher latitudes... That is what I meant... "In the higher latitudes of the northern hemisphere, the continents of North America, Europe, and Asia are pressed closer together. This β€œconstriction” of the oceans creates the effect of a higher range of tides."
  15. The boat is still stuck! Check it out: https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:32.579/centery:30.013/zoom:14
  16. Not sure. Is there tides in the canal? Gotta be, right... ?? They said 200,000 tons, those gotta be loads, loaded containers. . So I would imagine there's no ballast? I think I read it was going North to Amsterdam. Coming from the Pacific Rim, right?
  17. Happy ending? πŸ˜† Asking for my friend Bob Kraft. πŸ˜†
  18. Yes. 🀣🀣No. But we have internet... 😁 There's no locks on the Suez. It's just a sea level ditch AND my first job with the Corps was a hydrographic surveyor. Taking soundings (depth readings, as you probably know) for dredging operations on the Eastern Great Lakes, also QA for construction on the Presque Isle erosion control project in late 1980s/early 1990s. Yes "depth" is my game. Yes... Dredge operations and construction, soundings is my lane, believe it or not! πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜Š Digging and measuring... And pushing buttons. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰
  19. NEVER! Oh, I chew them. Who cuts them??? πŸ˜†
  20. Yeah... The bow is stuck. They have bow thrusters to keep things stable. Surprised they didn't have tug escort being 400m long AND windy conditions... BUT it's Egypt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬ and do you want the cost of your new LED TV going up! πŸ˜‰
  21. How da Efe would they offload containers? Helicopter? The other group looks like it's going around The Cape to get to Western Europe πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί... Taking its chances past Somalia πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄ & the pirates ☠!! ARGH matey!
  22. Why would Japan? Japanese owner apologized: https://www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-middle-east-56522178 The Dutch on the scene! Shout Out to: @BringBackFergy @Beerball @Gugny @Mike in Horseheads @Seasons1992 All my usual Peeps... Sure doesn't look like they can just send a tug to the rescue! /smh... "A flotilla of eight tug boats resumed efforts to move the Ever Given at high tide on Thursday morning after stopping overnight, Egyptian officials said. Dredgers and diggers have also been clearing sand and mud away from the bow of the vessel, which is sitting on the side of the canal. The head of a Netherlands-based salvage company assisting the operation warned that it could take weeks to dislodge the boat and that containers might have to be lifted off to lighten its load. "We can't exclude it might take weeks, depending on the situation," Peter Berdowski, the CEO of Boskalis, told the Dutch TV station NPO."
  23. Oh My! https://nypost.com/2021/03/24/cargo-ship-drew-penis-before-getting-stuck-in-suez-canal/amp/ 😏
  24. Wedged in great tightness! Like a silly bear looking for honey 🍯! Quite a jam!
