Patriots looking for next franchise QB...
Peter replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He seems to be more popular among some Bills fans (not me) than the Pats. For that matter, the same could be said for Jimmy Clausen. I remember how many people here spontaneously combusted when the Bills did not draft him multiple times. Hey, but at least we could have said that we drafted a QB (and made some here and on GR happy). -
Roll Call: Jealous of the Colts for having Andrew Luck
Peter replied to Boludo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Keep in mind that there is more than one young QB playing in that game. I am all in favor of drafting someone like Andrew Luck. Of course, that guy would have to be available. I am not in favor of drafting a QB (e.g., the 2013 version of Gabbert) in the first round just so that we can say we drafted a QB. -
Finally some good news - Arthur Moats has a new daughter

Great news. Congrats to Arthur. By the way, how is her first step? -

So true.

Agreed.

It seems as though we are going to find out about Ron Brooks soon enough. My recollection, however, is that he played the slot receiver mostly in college as a result of LSU's strength at the corner position.

Gailey coaches like he knows how limited the talent is
Peter replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It makes sense to pass the ball if the other team is committed to taking away the run. Our problem is that we could not make the Texans pay for daring us to pass -- whether it was because of our limited QB, the Texans' pass rush, our WRs (especially with Stevie dinged), or all of the above. -
I still hold out hope for Williams. He has the physical ability. He was with Andre Johnson with him when he was beat, he did not turn quickly enough. That is where he will have to improve if he wants to stay on the field or the team. Stanford Routt (who the Bills tried to sign) is now available if Williams goes on the IR. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/11/05/chiefs-cut-stanford-routt/

I remember when people here were screaming about how bad Wade was. The fact of the matter is, we never should have fired Wade. I have to believe that the last several years would have gone a lot better if Wade had been the HC. In any event, I am going to reserve judgment on the present staff until the end of the year.

Tyron Smith - anyone following this?
Peter replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There was a recent 30 for 30 documentary called "Broke" that addressed some of these issues. It is amazing what some guys have to go through with family members and others pressuring them for money. Combine that with young guys with absolutely no financial acumen all of a sudden being millionaires, and you have a recipe for some tragic stories. I can only imagine some of the foolish things that I would have done with money if I found my self rich in my early 20's. It sounds like Tyron Smith has a better head on his shoulders than most when it comes to these issues. -
Thank you for posting. I love the way the great football minds on this board are so much smarter than Buddy and Chan. I also love how now people are saying that he is a good OC but not a good HC. He gets the most out of what we have on offense. Our special teams are pretty darn good. Our defense was entrusted to a guy everyone was excited about. Buddy went out and got the guy who most thought was the premier defensive free agent. It does not necessarily follow that, because our defense has not played the way we want it to that Chan all of a sudden is stupid and incapable of being a good HC. I am going to reserve judgment until the end of the season on all of this. Just my two cents.

Which one of you guys is Jerry Sullivan? I watched the interview on bb.com. Some of you guys are just looking for reasons to rip him. Complaints about this interview are much ado about nothing. I am more interested in his play on the field. I thought that the media would be happy that he answered questions on a Monday (in addition to Wednesday and Sunday). Maybe one of the reporters tripped over Mario's refrigerator.
-
FWIW, I have the feeling that some of Chan's answers are his way to keep things in house and/or protect his players and not throw anyone under the bus.

You comments about Sullivan are basically my thoughts as well. I listened to him this morning on the WGR audio vault. The guy clearly is upset that he does not get to interrogate him more than twice a week (Wednesdays and game days). If I were Mario, why would I want to have to speak with Sullivan more than twice a week. All one has to do is listen to Sullivan's rants on WGR or the questions he asks after the games to realize that twice a week is more than enough. Clearly, Mario's performance rushing the passer has not been what we anticipated. Only Mario knows how bad his wrist is/was. If there is an issue with his wrist, it would affect his pass rushing. I suppose I should not be surprised that a keyboard jockey like Sullivan and others are questioning his manhood etc. or fixated on a refrigerator. Sullivan seems to be taking it out on Mario for not being able to talk to him on more than two days a week. I do not care about the refrigerator. I only care about his performance on the field. The fact is that Mario has played every game notwithstanding whatever is going on with his wrist. He has been ok (not great) against the run, and his pass rushing has not been what we expected. Now that he has had his procedure, we will see whether there is any improvement. In the meantime, I do not see the need to run him out-of-town as some seem to want to do. As for JW, I think that he does his job pretty well based on the articles that I have read. I do not always agree on his take, but he seems to be a straight shooter and does not seem to have the tired agenda that Sullivan and Bucky Gleason always seem to have.

All of a sudden, I am a Mike Pouncey fan. Great stuff.

Mario Williams considering wrist surgery (now confirmed)

Of course you do. I suggest you introduce yourself to him and tell him that. -
Mario Williams considering wrist surgery (now confirmed)
Peter replied to buffalo1983's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to admit that I have been disappointed with his production (pass rushing) compared to how much of an impact I thought that he would have. I also have to admit that it is "humorous" to read some of the snarky comments coming from the keyboard jockeys on this board. As I mention above, the disappointment with Mario's play is the limited impact he has had pressuring the QB. I have no idea how much his wrist is hurting him, but that is exactly the kind of thing that would affect that part of his game. I hope that this is the case (the wrist is the reason). I would hate to see all of the money that we have invested in him (and Anderson for that matter) be wasted. In any event, notwithstanding the internet tough guys on this board, an injury to his wrist could be a logical reason for why his pass rushing has not been what we thought it would be. Just my two cents. -
How did this become "Off the Wall" - because Big Cat is now "off the wall"?

Stopping the run and rushing the passer are all about effort and not giving up. After watching the Bills' complete inability to stop San Fran, the Pats, and even the Titans (for most of the game), I would say there are a lot of people about whom his comments would apply. As an aside, is there a site that keeps track of 3 and outs. I have to believe that we are near the bottom of the league (if not the bottom) at 3 and outs. We also have to be near the bottom of the league in allowing teams to convert third and longs. San Fran converted critical third and longs by RUNNING the ball. Yesterday, at the end of the game, we got the Titans into a couple of third/fourth and longs during the game winning drive and could not stop them.
