I love this, for the last few years we have dealt with a businessman GM, who was considered a hired gun, so to speak. Now we have passion among the top with Ralph and Marv, who are true Bills fans. If we hire Haslett we further the fan idea, Wyche was a Bill, and Haslett was too. Unlike Jerry Grey whom I always thought was bitter about the comeback game. soon we'll see them on this board asking for advise, or maybe not! I have not been this happy in the offseason since the TKO signing.

say all you want about the dolphins and their wonderful seaon, but the dolphins are in the same spot as the bills right now, going home, season over. the difference is that the Bills have young up and comers that learned a lot this year, while the dolphins just got older, and have less to look forward to. The honeymoon the players and coach have will only last so long. Next year they have some major issues, OLine is terrible, maybe as bad as ours, QB issues, at least it's not sage vs gus (for those saying so do we) and there defense is not getting younger, Madison, taylor, seau, and thomas are not spring chickens, and they got older adding Carter and holliday this past off season, they have not had a good rookie on D for some time now as well, and the best thing is we now have a better draft position. So miami you suck 2006 will show that they got lucky and that their age will catch up to them.

Schobel cold be moved to OLB, he is a better athlete than Posey, and works harder than any other player on the team. He would do fine, the 3-4 defense isn't an easy move, one must make an investment in personal. that said I think we shouldn't move into a 3-4 unless we somehow land Mario Williams. I also think the LE position would have to be played by Edwards, he is athletic enough. I think we'll rebound next year with a 4-3 and 3-4 mix.

A shoulder separation is what ended my career, well not really, but while playing basketball in high school, i seperated my shoulder and it has never been the same, and that was basketball, once you do something like that to you shoulder it has a great chance of happening again. and the fact that it's his throwing arm really scares me. lets just say, I wouldn't expect him to be the same player next year or maybe ever. I am not a Doctor just someone that has had the same injury, and maybe my doctor/trainer/heathcare wasn't to the NFL standards but still it's a scary injury that could have an impact on his contract

Andrew Whitworth, is very heavy footed, he will be this years Victor Rogers, Kelly Butler or Ben johnson -all of which were considered by many to be sure first day selections that waited to get there name called. Although I like him, he would be a back up. Also if we get Backus, he starts at LT, there is no reason to not start Jason Peters at RT or even LT, he is twice the RT Williams is. He is athletic and moves people. Backus is the best LT in Free agency, but not worth the money that will be offered to him, instead sign a role player and vet like Jon Runyan who is older and should come cheaper I consider center of more of a need position, and I don't think it will be Preston, LeCharles Bentley is imho the best OL in the market. I like Metcalf in college, he should have left after his junior year, however, Gandy is our stating LG he is athletic for a guard and his long arms help, he is a good run blocker and a great interior pass blocker. and no more former Bears If we can reneg his contract where he is not be hurting the cap at all, then Mike Williams should be moved into RG, next to two players that play mad he could become a force. we still could have great depth with CV or Mike williams, preston, maybe anderson. I like Ngata. Great size, starts from day one. However feel we need to keep Adams, and maybe even sign Jackson, (grady, heck why not collect the set and get Washington if the raiders release him, then we could name the DT rotation the oval office, Adams, Jackson and washington-I kid) no really, keep Adams, and sign Jackson, a four man rotation of Adams, jackson, Ngata and edwards, that's alot of meat. I wish there was another option besides Clements, but resigning him remains the best thing to do. in the 2nd round we could pick up another WR, maybe Nance will still be there, if chad jackson declares he might be there, but someone that can take over the slot positon, and maybe someone with size. i think we can keep Moulds, and we should. another player I've liked since his college days is Matt Schobel, he is an improving blocker and a great athlete for a TE, the fact his brother is also a Bill should help in the signing, just think how happy the schobel fam would be. he and Everett would give us a vertical threat at TE, opening the middle more I also could see getting a player like LaRon Landry in the 3rd, or Salley, but someone that could step in early if Vincent doesn't step up. oh and if the cheifs do depart ways with vermeil, get him!!!! London Fletcher loves him, and I think we need a figure not a coach, let the OC and DC do the coaching, but an emotional coach that has his players support is important. Hopefully he brings over his offensive staff, but I think we'll be okay with our current DC and STC. MM and TD both need to go. TM should be given the wheel, and more important this becomes the head coaches team, and not the GMs team. So to break it down, and if you got this far, congrats. 1-Ngata DT 2-Nance WR or Jackson 3-Landry FS 3b-the best lineman left, maybe Whitworth here. 4-best DE left 5-best LB 6-best running back 7 best player Sign Bentley, Runyan, Jackson, Schobel. reneg Moulds and Williams Resign Clements, and all the other role players on the team we can afford. and have an open QB race, Vermeil will go with who he could win with.

while i hate to think about it, losing is a way of getting better. in 2001, if we had loss to the Carolina, we might have draft Peppers, all though I have a feeling we would have drafted Harrington. Mike Williams Or Peppers? how much better would we be with peppers.
-
We have seen it happen before, the 1999 Rams for example, no one expected what they did, but a coach that inspires and a team that has had so many down years, get a break and amounts to something, world champs! However I don't feel MM inspires, we need an emotional leader to this team. Next year i see our defense getting better, the addition of a 1st round draft pick and an active offseason will help our defense, but we can't go through another offseason of expecting players to step up. Or to overachieve, Mike Gandy was released by a sorry team, now he is starting at the most important position on our line, and he might be the 2nd best player we have. We can't release vets, if we want a turn around we have to keep our talent, at least the talent that wants to remain. Releasing Moulds for example would be a HUGE mistake, without him we have 3 WR that stand 5'10" or less. He also is the leader of our offense. young QB+ poor offensive line+short WR=sacks and ints, if you can't protect Losman and he can't just wing the ball in the area of a WR he is more than likely going to throw ints and get sacked. Eli Maning has had a good year because he has tall WRs, a good TE, a good RB release and an improving line.

Let us hope that he doesn't run better than 4.8, and doesn't bench more reps than 20. If for some reason he has a terrible Combine and workout, we might be lucky enough to get him, then if we are able to sign Grady Jackson. Our line might be amazing, but we have to hope that the other DE have great workouts and he doesn't, also he is a high energy guy. imagine Schobel with some help on the other side. and I want to take this moment to say, Aaron Schobel is in my top 5 all time favorite Bills, every year he has improved, last year it was against the run this year it was the entire package, he might be the 2nd most complete DE in the AFC. He doesn't rant and rave, and doesn't dance. I think a good reward would be to bring his brother to Buffalo, Matt Schobel is a very good TE, he has trouble blocking, but he creates match up problems, because he is very athletic. thank you for your time

What is the cap hit if Williams is cut?
frogger replied to turftoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
what are the chances we can restructure his large contract, making his cap hit after release to be around the same if we restructure. I'd rather not have to pay 5 million for an invisable player,. Maybe he can play RG since I think we are all pretty sure that Villarrial is close to the end. -
the reason I see Tressel not being a Bills coach is simple, First off, there are storied Franchises in the NFL, they can get great college coaches to go into the NFL from rather large programs, the Dolphins for one. Dolphins have a long history. The Cowboys can get a coach out of retirement, do you think that we could have gotten BP to come out of retirement. 2nd money, I am sure that Tressel is paid well. the Bills underpay coaches and are unwilling to pay 2-3 million a year for a coach. I like Vermeil, he has done it before, he is loved by our defensive leader, and the love could spread, soon they'll all be yelling we love Dick. Players play hard for dick

I got this glowing lawn sign, every year my brother in law and sister sent me something Bills related, and every year it's something that makes me laugh a little, of course they send real gifts with it, but now I have a flaming Bills sign to display...next year

the way Preston played the other week, I don't feel he is going to be a starting guard in the NFL, nor center, this was another TD reach. Love LeCharles Bentley, he is an anchor. I could see moving gandy inside, he a good athlete (at guard, not so much at LT) and as for Marcus McNeill, my feeling is he is not going to amount to much in the NFL, he is similar to Williams, but not as strong or as athletic. But like Williams he lacks heart. Give Williams a pay cut and a 2nd chance next year. I would still love to Sign Jon Runyan, and place him at RT, with Williams moving to RG.
-
we couldn't afford the conract he is being paid. And he'll end up playing for Miami next year, mark this post, the Dolphins need a QB, and they have lots of money. This could be taken as good news or bad news for us, the bad news is chambers could be great with a good QB, the good news is he takes a lot of sacks. and the Dolphins line is not considered good, it might be worse than ours......nah

lets start with whom I'd like to see, The Indy Colts vs. the giants, you've got the manning match up, good personel, in terms of good sound bites, harrison and Freeney are ex cuse players, I've always thought highly of Barber. not to mention Tom Coughlin coached RIT and is an ex cuse. also also Indy going undefeated, so I don't have to hear about the Dolphins doing it. and it shuts up the pats. least favorite, easy Cowboys and pats...I don't want to hear teacher vs student, bledsoe vs Brady or coaches....i hate both team, both fans are some of the most annoying. plus we'll have to hear how bad the bills are at least once.
-
Jim Fassel, why because i don't really want to see another OC or DC come in here and just go through the motions so to speak, this is a team full of vets, and we need a coach that has Head coached before. the list is short, Mike Ditka-is an idiot, jimmy johnson doesn't like the cold, and Marv is too old, Jim Fassel brought an undertalented giants team to the super bowl, he was Loved by his players. that is what we need, someone that doesn't have to prove themself and will get instant respect from the players.

Why the Bills should go for Reggie Bush.....
frogger replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we could get Reggie Bush I would crap my pants. However assuming we don't we need to address both lines in the draft...WE HAVE TO! however I think once MM and TD hit the road together on a gay cowboy trip, I think we'll be okay, we need to keep Eric Moulds, and I think we can drop his pay low enough where cutting him would be close to keeping him capwise. he is still talented and one of only a few on this team able to go over the middle. Mike Williams is gone. sam Adams should stay. Jeff Posey should get his walking papers Bennie Anderson is eating up a roster spot and a paycheck releasing him does save us money. Mark Campbell-I think he is a free agent trey Teague A few Free agents worth looking at IMHO LeCharles Bentley, and build around him. Jon Runyan, very physical, something we didn't see with Mike Williams at all. and because he'll be 33, he should be a hell of a lot cheaper than thomas. Jason Peters is currently our best Olineman, prior to the offseaon, he is good enough to move to LT, if he fails Mike Gandy is his back up. Matt Schobel-Very athletic TE and since he has family here maybe he'll sign for less, he would be our starter next year, until Everett is completely ready. then draft as such, we need to build around JP, he is still our future 1-Haloti Ngata-assuming he declares, if Mario Williams is there I would entertain him, I think Williams is a sure thing. Ngata, has a little more risk. 2-Max jean-Gilles-he might be a little overweight at 350+, David Joseph would be a good alt. 3-Todd Watckins-use JP's one solid ability so far, Watkins is the best deep threat in the draft. and is 8 inches taller than Roscoe 3b-Daniel Bullock-his progress tells us how important Lawyer is, if he learns fast, lawyer may be off to his third team. 4-James Wyche-quick and potential good DE 5-Gerald Mills-I would love to get him, he played TE for tulsa, and is the #1 TE in every stat in college this year, but at 6'2" 235 ounds he is best in the pros as a H-Back or FB-he's tough and can dominate, and could turn out to be the best pick if we get him. 6-back up QB like Gradkowski 7-Pierre woods-OLB- JP could be very good with a few more seconds in the pocket, a line of Peters, Jean-Gilles, Bentley, Villarrial-Runyan with short outlets like Mills and Schobel, and a healthy Everett an additional deep threat like Watkins, and an even year for Moulds. on Defense you start with a healthy Spikes, with the playmaking ability of crowell (who is far better than Posey) and Fletcher. with a Defensive line of Schobel, Adams, Ngata, and Kelsey the 2ndary reamins the same. side note lost in this season is the play of King, who I think is playing very well for a rookie. -
Jason Peters-Max Jean Gilles-LeCharles Bentley-Chris V.-Jon Runyan sign Bentley in the offseason along with the well seasoned Runyan, the first year cap cost would be less than Mike Williams, it would be less than what we save releasing mike williams, and in the 2nd round draft MJG-unless your flavor is David Joseph, who might not be as talented but is more athletic. MJG weighs in at about 360, while joseph is a light weight at 315 this line is better at run blocking, and is far better at pass blocking, and is reasonable price wise

don't you wish you had a say... and don't you wish they would tell you there intentions. well here would be mine Hire Jim Johnson DC form the Eagles as my new head coach, well respected and well liked. OC Mike Martz...once the rams release him, the greatest show in snow? DC whomever coach johnson wants. Free agents I will target LeCharles bentley center-tough athletic center Jon Runyan-Tough physical RT, and a well seasoned vet. Matt Schobel-I bet you didn't expect him, but a very good athlete, with great hands he would start if everett was not ready. ran a 4.6 40 prior to the draft several years ago and was drafted in the 2nd round. Grady Jackson-up there in age and up there in weight. my Draft targets 1-Haloti Ngata large athletic DT, I think I read that he recorded 60+ tackles this past year, that is pretty good. 2-Max Jean Gillies-LG from Georgia, tackle heavy draft projects him into the 2nd round. a nice steal by us...finally since I am your GM thinngs are going our way. 3-Todd Watckin WR from BYU-6'3" 195, great speed, JP Losman has found the touch on the deep ball, however with midgets trying to catch it it makes it tough for him. Sorry to my employees for calling them midgets...but come on, 5"8". 3b-Daniel Bullock-Neb. SS, future SS after lawyer leaves 4-James Wyche DE from Syracuse great athlete and a bit of a project, but less than Ritzmann was 5-Gerald Mills from tulsa-TE/H back/Fullback-destoyed UCF in the con USA championship. great hands and a tough blocker, ideal for the greatest show in snow. also is a great release for Losman. 6-Bruce Gradkowski-back up QB from toledo 7-Pierce woods-from michigan, LOLB/DE I will try to extend Eric Moulds contract saving money, I will offer the same to Mike Williams, but if he does not proform in preseason say good bye. and bring his weigh to 340. also say goodbye to Teague, Bennie Anderson, jeff Posey & Mark Campbell. but i will resign Clements and any others that are Free agents. I will keep josh Reed, because I believe that we need to give him back number 25, and make him a running back....as a WR he sucks, however as a 3rd down back he could be great. vote for me and I will even take suggestions, and be up front with everyone. i would also allow this to be Johnson team, and not mine...yes that was a stab at TD

so many of our problems in so little time. While getting Hutch would be a great move, I have Bentley rated ahead of him as an offensive lineman. Mostly because we need an anchor. Sunday proved to me that Dookie is not ready. But good news this is a better than average tackle draft, the biggest problem facing Losman is the push up the middle, mostly by blitzes, but also by teague's inability to stop a Bull rush. Mike Williams has to look at himself in the mirror, I remember drafting him, and the "experts" said he was a can't miss, saying he has a great personality...a passive one...that is his problem. Jon Runyan is a free agent, he doesn't have a passive personality, he's aging fast but, he brings a physical game. (assuming he is healthy, honestly I have been unable to watch any other games after we lose). I feel strongly that Peters could play LT, he's more athletic than any tackle in the NFL, and he has dealt with the physical RT position well. Mike williams might be better suited for RG, as long as he takes a major pay reduction. Someone should tell me why the best lineman we have is a RG, can we move CV to LG? So my Line... Jason Peters-CV-Bentley-meatball-Jon Runyan..Runyan is a cheap upgrade and Bentley gives us the best center we've had since Hull. More importantly we add two players with a physical nature that will fight until the whistle. and sometimes longer, but we need that. but we also keep 2 excellent athletes in Peters and Williams who could learn from a vet like Runyan, and we keep the one bright spot on the line....but we also keep Gandy and Preston, and maybe hopefully get a lineman in the draft. I think we have to keep Adams, ealier in Nov someone talked about Jackson from Green Bay..I'm down with that. I trully feel that Bannan is nothing more than a great special teamer. and anderson is the weakest lineman I have ever seen. In a perfect world we would get Mario Williams first and then in the 2nd round capture watson....let us dream. Mario Williams is a DE much like Peppers. and watson I feel is a lot like sam Adams, but he moves slightly better. if that doesn't work out I will be very happy with Ngata, as a plug in and a four man rotation of Jackson, Adams, edwards, and Ngata....if my math is correct that is like 1400 poundsish....that will wear down the interior of any line. as for WR, Reggie Wayne is Peerless price. and I will be GD if we get another cancer Miami player....they seperate teams! I prefer Bryant, but if that is our best option in the offseason we are in trouble. I really like Stovall, he is huge and gets open...he is similar to Owens in that way. as a third rounder he is perfect!! another player I like alot is byrd the TE from USC. But where does he go. I still feel that we keep Moulds, and get a new coaching staff. we need our vets!!!!
-
in a fantasy world my attempt trade Willis McGahee and next years first round pick for the 2nd or 3rd pick, whatever gets us Reggie Bush, assuming that he leaves early. He creates match up problems and might become the best back in the NFL, then with the circa 10th pick draft Haloti Ngata, if he leaves early, 2nd choice would be Watson or Wright, however if DE Mario Williams leaves early and he is still there, draft him, so ideally Mario Williams. then in the 2nd assuming we got Ngata draft Dominique Byrd TE out of USC, I think he is more pro ready at TE than any other TE in this draft, he runs solid routes and blocks well. in the 3rd I get Maurice Stovall, great size and an athletic ability, I feel strongly that young QB need big WR. talant-whatever is left. but include as a late round pick Garrett Mills, 6'2" 235 TE, that could play FB, and catches the ball very well. resign Clements and sign Jeff backus, also extend Moulds contract, and williams...yes i know, but we could save money while keeping talant. not sold on Wayne, I feel he is the 2nd coming of Peerless, whom we could have anyways so breakdown extend moulds, and williams resign Clements sign Backus Figure out the Posey (CUT HIM!!!!) situation, along with the Adams (KEEP HIM, Please) situation 1-Reggie Bush RB (after mcgahee trade with 2007 1st ronder) 1b-Haloti Ngata DT 2-Dominique Byrd TE 3-Maurice Stovall WR 3b-talant 4"" 5"" 6-Garett Mills FB 7 talants yes i know but one can dream

reduce the saleries of Mike meatball williams, and eric Moulds, saving an est 6 million while keeping them on the team. Okay Meatball is having a hard time on the left side, could we move Chris V over to the left side? So meatball can have his way? Sign free agent Jeff Backus with left over money, he is not a great LT, but he is the best in the market this year, and I think he would love to get out of detroit, even if he played college at Michigan. Any word on the signing of ross Verba? Since he was off a year, TD is licking his chops to sign him resign Clements...has to be done. not sure where we stand cap wise at this point, but assuming the deal for backus only cost around 3 million the first year, we should be in okay shape.... CUT POSEY!!!! I have been saying this for the last 2 years that he is the weakest link on our defense, he gets knocked back and he is horrible in coverage. Arrington is on the out in washington, maybe the pinkskins would to part ways? maybe for a 3rd rounder? he has been healthy this year, and he and the coaching staff have not seen eye to eye. since they take his bonus he wouldn't cost us more than 3-4 million a year, we could also resign him and and extend his contract. then draft 1. Haloti Ngata-best DT in the last two years 2-Tye Hill-he is up for the thorpe award, but i think he falls into the 2nd round on draft day. 3-Maurice Stovall-questionable hands, but great size, young qbs need big WR....see Eli manning...don't see ben Rothksfgahfaberger. other 3-traded 4-James Wyche DE, with good size/speed and has a lot of experience after playing for the SU defense this past year. has the potential to get bigger and play Left or right end after that draft speed. and I like our odds.
-
okay you cut moulds save 5 million+ cool right, howeverwho in this years free agent market could you get to replace him? Reggie wayne is Peerless price. and no way in hell is he worth 5 million a year. I strongly believe we can reduce his salery, and keep him, he is younger than TO and the lack of game breaking ability has more to do with his offense and not him, he is being asked to catch 6 yard outs. Moulds is still the most talented player on the team. okay well maybe after peters
-
one thing I've noticed this year is that we don't create match up problems, for example if you are playing the chargers, LT can not only run the ball but he is a very good reciever too. So you have to respect him in both areas. when you see him in the huddle, you can't just put a LB in there to counter it because he could line up in the slot or Wide, and you might have a LB or a slower safety covering him. but if you added a another corner to try to counter him, they'll run it. we don't have the personal to do that. another example is a TE that can beat LBs, but is too big for CB and safeties to handle. This steeler like offense just doesn't create it, Wyche for OC-bring back the no huddle
-
I don't know about good hands, I've seen him drop a wide open pass in the end zone like his name is josh reed before. But speed he has, and he is a tough blocker. and i thought Jay R, was a good TE. Bobby collins had potential. Hell I'd take Lonnie right now
-
how about a new GM, that knows how important it is to get those things. trading for Campbell errrrr not smart, drafting undersized WR in the 2nd round. Hell, I'd take Alex Smith (the TE) right now over Parrish, or an offensive linemen, and don't give me there were no good linemen after, there were, there always is. Drafting Mike williams.....who the f drafts a RT with the 4th pick...who? us! I would take 1st mate Bryant McKinnie right now, fewer chances of a boat trip, well unless the maid of the mist counts. how about SS roy williams? It starts with TD, he makes the picks and signs the free agents.
