Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?

Merge the new thread into this one gents!! -
Ross Tucker ranks NFL Coach’s, places McDermott at #22.

He fell flat 2 years. Many coaches do that. I don’t think he fell flat last year. We had a rookie OC. His biggest mistake, imo, was retaining Frazier. We lost 3 games by a total of 8 points combined. We had little to no chance vs Cinci with our lineup. Having a player die on the field didn’t help matters. -
Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)

Agreed. Beane needs to find a way to make this happen. No draft picks involved. Just cap to kick down the road. He’s going to sign with an afc team…. We know this. Let’s not have any regrets. -
Yeah it’s nauseating for sure. That nausea will turn to laughter when Zach is under center due to Rodgers getting destroyed.

It’s a message board bro….we’re discussing our thoughts on his rankings. It’s what this place is for. But your last sentence tells everyone all we need to know about you. He will be fired because he’s wasted Joshs prime years = we aren’t winning a Super Bowl because mcdermott isn’t good enough. You already know that he’s not winning a SB 🤣 -
He’s looking pretty dam big out there too! 😃

Good comparison. I agree. I think it goes to my point that many have said in this thread. Mcdermott is being judged on not winning a Super Bowl with an elite QB. He’s had an elite QB for 3 seasons. In one of those seasons (last season) our team was decimated with injuries. We didn’t have a championship caliber roster on the field when we got smacked by Cinci. I remember watching Mahomes get destroyed in the SB after losing Eric Fisher vs us and their entire OL was backups. Injuries matter. They mattered last season and I don’t put that on McD. The blame clearly falls on him for the first 2 other two seasons. And in both of those seasons, he lost to the best QB/coach combo in the league. Does that mean he’s not a very good coach? 🤷🏻♂️ I think it’s unfair to judge him on not winning with an elite QB (in 3 whole seasons) when his only real opportunities, he’s been beaten by the best QB and by the injury bug. -

After their first seasons you’d put mcdaniels over mcdermott? For real? mcdermott had a better record than mcdaniels and had less than 1/2 the talent on the roster. The talent level of those two teams is not even comparable. -

I think I had already said upthread that I’d rather have Mcdaniels and Fangio. But preferring mcdaniels and Fangio isn’t an endorsement for mcdaniels being a better head coach than mcdermott. It’s Fangio is a world class DC while Dorsey is still unproven. It’s a coordinator comparison as much as it is a preference of having an offensive HC this thread is about head coaches. Not HC/ coordinator combos Mcdermott needs to be ahead of Mcdaniels at this point. That narrative may change after the season. But the article isn’t written after the season If you agree that McD is is a very average coach hidden by a superstar QB, how can he take a tank team, with a bad OC, no QB or playmakers on O to the playoffs? If he’s so average how can that 2017 team have a better record than Mcdaniels had last year with a loaded roster? Mcdermott coached a scab team to the playoffs -

You’re on ignore now. Save your breath from now on. Or don’ts. Either way, I won’t be reading it -

To each their own. I think anyone that that would put him outside of the top 20 doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I believe that you know what you’re talking about and are only saying he could be 22nd to back up your statement. There no way anyone could say that arthur smith, McConnell or Staley is better. That’s just insane talk. on one end you talk as if mcdermott can’t be better than McCarthy because of his past accomplishment with a Goat-like QB. And on the other end, you can see how coaches that have never even won a playoff game are better than McD. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. Let’s say this again….. he’s had an elite QB for 3 seasons. In those 3 seasons, he’s been beaten by the other 2 QBs we would consider elite. Let’s say Josh is #3. He’s been beaten by 1 and 2. Again…. It’s been 3 seasons and he’s been eliminated by the other two best QBs in the league in all 3. -

Right, you can’t put him above a coach with a sb. But who would you rather have? Mcdermott or McCarthy? I think McCarthy is one of the least desirable coaches. I feel he’s underperformed at this point. if you can’t put McD over a coach with a SB, I don’t think it’s ok to put a coach that hasn’t even been to a conference championship game over McD. 6 years ahead coach. 5 years in the playoffs….. coaching a franchise that didn’t go to the playoffs for 17 years. What he’s done to this franchise is much more than 15 other head coaches have done for theirs. He’s top 15 imo. I like vrabel. I think he’s done a fine job with what he’s had. I also think mcdermott has too. Sure, he’s made some serious blunders in the playoffs…. Vs Mahomes x2 and Burrow. And those games keep him out of the top 10. Agree to disagree. -

That’s also 12 coaches. That’s not the bottom half like you had suggested. Makes him the 13th. I had the same list but I had mistakenly omitted Payton and purposely omitted McCarthy. Sure McCarthy has a Super Bowl, but he’s also had several lackluster seasons with really talented teams and has underperformed in the playoffs several season. He had the QB many people think is the best QB they’ve ever seen in Rodgers. 13 years in GB with all world QBs and won one SB. Mcdermott has had 3 years with an all world QB and his teams were beaten by Mahomes twice and Burrow once. you’d rather have McCarthy over McDermott? you think what stands? That he should be considered in the bottom half of head coaches? -

I won’t disagree with that. I’d prefer to have an offensive HC over a defensive HC. And after this season, with Fangio running the D, I think he’ll probably be regarded as the better coach. But based on body of work, I don’t see how anyone could say mcdaniel is better. Rookie season to rookie season, McD was better. I don’t think there’s any doubt. Body of work is clearly being used in this list. If it weren’t based on career accomplishments, but based on recent accomplishments BB, Tomlin and Carroll wouldn’t be on the list. So he’s using body of work for some coaches and not for others. And by others I mean just McD. It’s bills mafia clickbait and there’s no way anyone could say he should be 22 and believe that. -
Hilarious. I bet if you go through my post history and look at the eye roll emojis- out of maybe 500 total eye rolls, 475 of them would be him.
-
If he shows upside, I would. 4 year rookie contract. Do you have any thoughts on Austin? I think the depth of this CB draft class pushed him down and we got a steal. I really like his potential as a zone corner. Not so much man. I think the rule changes could have a big impact on KOs and the overall worth of KO coverages. Which would make Neals main worth revolve around punts….. and we punt less than anyone.

Rick Dennison. Awful -
I’m not saying he has to be an elite gunner. Just competent. But I have no clue regarding his ST play, I was just throwing it out there. the new rules, imo, are the only reason I think Neal might be cut. I don’t think he will be…. McD definitely loves his ST only players…. But I’d rather keep austin, a guy that i think could be a CB in this league over a guy that can only play. The new rules reinforce my thinking on that. I realize that someone would have to step up and be a competent gunner in order to cut him, I just think KO unit players took a big hit on the rule change. I’d be all for keeping him if he could play some corner or safety. The fact that he couldn’t play over Cam Lewis speaks volumes to me

I thought he was around 8-10 last year. This years injuries were too much to overcome, but the playoff performance Vs Cinci was dreadful. That’s 2 out of 3 years that coached absolute stinkers in season ending losses. The 13 second game, he coached fine…. Until he made the biggest coaching blunder in franchise history. Making that 3 straight seasons in which season ending losses were on his head more than anyone else’s. jmo, but he’s right around 10 Reid belichick shanahan mcvay tomlin pederson harbaugh carroll taylor sirriani that’s my top 10 in no particular order except the last 2 are 9-10z. I’d put Taylor and Sirianni ahead of McD atm If we put up another stinky stinker in a season ending afc playoff loss, I’d be all for replacing him with Ben Johnson. I wouldn’t want to fire him just to fire him. Only if we had a particular target to replace him with. Ben Johnson is that guy to me right now. -

He also proved that he could have success with a terrible roster (and an even worse OC). im not saying he’s great, but this list is a joke and not even close to fair. It’s pure click bait for Bills Mafia -
Didn’t take long to figure out who you were talking about. Do yourself a favor and put him on ignore. No reason to waste your time with that bro.

I don’t recall the nature of his injuries, but he was healthy for the most part in college iirc. I think it’s great that health is the only mark against him. 1.77M 😂
