Agree 💯 I think there’s a big difference between going all in and mortgaging the future. We aren’t all in, but there’s a solid chance that the overall talent level on this team > the talent level of future bills teams. I think for us to remain this stacked, Beane is going to have to hit on a higher % of draft picks and get significant contributions from low cost free agents. that said, even with slightly lesser talent, it’s still possible to win a Super Bowl (possibly multiple) in the future.

How old was Pep when he stepped away for a year? That was his first coaching job iirc? This is like McVay stepping away. A young stud coach. Fraziers situations is nothing like peps was. Frazier is old has been getting bypassed for HC vacancies for younger coaches year after year for a decade after getting fired. I don’t see how stepping away and talking to people will get him any closer to a HC job at his age. Winning a SB with a great team may have. We shall see. I agree that what you said could have happened….but I feel that the people that informed you of this left out some details that would change the dynamics of the conversation. Even if there was evidence (stats is the only thing you can go by) the evidence isn’t proof of anything either. Just seems like a waste of time arguing about proof and evidence. No team in the league has proof that they’ve upgraded until they see the result on the field. adding and upgrading talent can only go as far as the coaches scheme. That’s not something anyone can prove in the offseason.

Disagree. Kicking cap down the road is exactly that. Yes, it’s part of being a contender, but how much you want to kick down the road is up to the GM. He didn’t have to extend Ed and free up cap room to sign floyd. He could’ve kept the cap hit the same and had more $ to work with in the future. The move allowed him improve our chances in 2023 at the expense of future cap. He had already restructured Josh and Von this offseason. Every restructure is mortgaging the future. That doesn’t mean we can’t be contenders in the future. It just means we’ll have less cap to work with. I suppose we just have different views of what mortgaging the future entails

I think this is ridiculous. He’s going to get a HC job by talking to other coaching staffs to see how staffs work? His best (and only) chance to be a HC would be to coach this D to a SB imo. Why step out of the league for a year at his age if is goal was How would that get him a HC? Talking to people? 🤷🏻‍♂️ doesn’t seem like a smart idea to me. I agree that he’ll have another DC position next year (if that’s what he wants). If he wanted a DC job….. he had one. A great one with a loaded D and SB aspirations. McD wanted to make changes to the D and call the plays. Leslie would’ve taken a hit to his reputation (and his chances of becoming a HC) if that was announced. I really can’t believe people think this was all Leslie’s decision. Do you believe this was Leslie’s decision and that McD is only calling plays due to the timing of it all? The writing was on the wall. It was time for change. McD wanted full control of the D. He has it.

And Beane continues to mortgage the future in order to win a SB this year. we were 20M over the cap to start the season and added Floyd, McGovern, Poyer, Rapp, Edwards, Shell, Poona, Shaq, Phillips, Harty, Sherfield, Harris, Murray and Sam Martin. Plus the draft class.

Fair point regarding rookies…. But singling out offensive rookies is meh Imo. I don’t think Kincaid should be compared to a 5th and a 7th rd WRs or a 2nd rd RB that had never been a RB1. The shakir sitch was 💯 befuddling. It drove me crazy for sure. Dunno if McD/Dorsey felt some sort of an allegiance to Dirty? If shakir was making errors in practice? Missed assignments and such 🤷🏻‍♂️. But it was frustrating to watch unfold. But again, you’re talking about a 5th rd pick…. Not a 1st rd pick that we traded up for. I thought cook played about as much as I thought he would his rookie year. I hope he gets 75% of the carries this year, but I expect it to be around 50-60%. I expect Harris to get the rock when we have a lead in the 4th as well as the majority of the RZ carries Hodgins had no chance to play his rookie year. Stuck behind Diggs, sanders, Beasley, Davis and dirty. Spencer Brown started the majority of his rookie year as a 3rd rd pick. Cody Ford did as well. Josh Allen is the only 1st rd pick used on O other than Kincaid. Kincaid is going to be one of the focal points of this offense going forward. I have no doubt. Whether or not Dorsey can implement the proper scheme to achieve success is a different story, but I think he’ll be fine. Agree to disagree. It’s the offseason and this is the stuff that we discuss. I think it’s clear that we’ve improved our offense a great deal. Major improvements on the IOL and TE/Slot. I get why some don’t think Harty and Sherfield are upgrades. Past stats say they are about equivalent to what we’ve had. I just don’t agree with past stats having anything to do with their future on this team. Harty >> McKenzie. Sherfield >>> Kumerow imo. Both can play inside and out. Both can stretch the field and have very good RAC ability. Nothing can really be proven until the season plays out. In 2021, we thought we upgraded when we went from Brown to Sanders. Stats show the proof that you’re looking for, but reality was, we he wasn’t really an upgrade at all.

Being listed as a TE doesn’t change anything in my eyes. What matters is what he will be for our offense. Capable of playing x, y and x. He’s going to line up everywhere.

I consider Kincaid a huge upgrade @ slot WR. Semantics can be used to say that’s not true. But it is true.

Just like every GM, veach included the same roster that the major of entire world thought was the best in football last season. And it was. The roster beat KC in KC again. Then injuries (and a teammate dying on the field) ended the season. While KC remained healthy. Luck is involved. Ask the 2020 chief team. Starting the offseason 20M over the cap- Beane upgraded the OL, WR, TE, RB Pass rush and secondary. I agree with the @Success. Beane did a helluva job and now it’s on the players, coaches and the all powerful. The team is championship caliber. Just like last season.

Per usual, my problem is with the word NEED. we didn’t need leonard floyd or an additional proven pass rusher to beat KC last season. We beat them and stopped them with what we had prior to signing Floyd. Some would argue that upgrading WR2 was a bigger “need”. I’m all for adding more and more talent. I love the signing. Every bit helps but every bit isn’t always “needed”. I agree, Beane has had a great offseason.

I can definitely see Beane paying more than 6M. 8.5M for one year isn’t an overpay for a guy like Floyd….it’s just more than I think Beane would pay considering the dearth of vet pass rushers available. The reason I could see 8-9m is if McD really wants to be versatile and move him around, a la Lorax. Floyds coverage and movement skills >> the other vets. He opens up more options
