They also likely carry over more than the estimated 4 million that is listed there. Managing the cap is knowing when to walk away from players, and trade others. I don't think they've done a great job of this - they've mostly just done what the saints have done and tack on years to deals to lower cap hits, and restructure base salaries.

I think thats the hope - having two like good-not-great ends in hughes and addison helps. And being able to rotate in AJ and Murphy.. moving guys like jefferson around on 3rd downs - it should be able to create pressure.

I know Murphy is a popular cut in many peoples posts, but i really feel like johnson would have to play really well in camp for it to be justified. Murphy has forced 4 fumbles, recovered 3 in 2 years, has 9 sacks - and had 2 sacks in the playoff game. I know in 2018 he was hurt in camp, which probably lingered all season long. Towards the end of 2019 he was bringing some pretty good pressure. We'll see what ends up happening, but I think he's got a good chance to stick for the year.

They have the #2 based on ROI from the amount of draft capital they have vs. the value across the athletics consensus big board. Based on where kickers sit on the big board top 300 (probably not on it), he would be selected like 70 spots too high. That's considered a reach. That at the time - we had value picks in ragland, lawson, and cardale jones based on where selected vs. where they sat on the big board. 4 years later, and 2 of those players vastly underperformed, and lawson while not a bust isn't necessarily outplaying his draft position.

Whenever you see big numbers in the "restructure bonus" column, that means they've been basically pushing back the inevitable. About 20 mil restructure bonuses, then in 2021 you have void years too. They basically were playing that game where you move 10mil of base salary into the next 4 years. Eventually that player isn't good and you have like 3 different paid out bonuses that hit your cap at once if you release them early. Not to mention they did this like way too many times and have void years all the way into like 2023 and 2024. Essentially this is right though - re-work the WR corps, lose older players, and trade down in the draft to get more cheap contracts/players. They're stuck in a 2 year cap crunch since they dont have space to eat other dead money. They could move Javon Hargrave since his base salary would come off the books in a trade. Don't worry though- they're set at backup QB...

With regards to Fromm - Barkley stinks. So He doesn't even need to be very good to make the roster IMO.

I think it will depend on preseason, but I'd go younger at punter/kicker. Both of them are currently in the bottom tier at the position. Based on Barkleys production - he's gone imo. It depends on what Dorsey thinks of Fromm, and whether allen believes Barkley's brain is too important. I'd cut dimarco since i don't think hes very good at any aspects of football, but they like him as a leader. I like what I've read about Gilliam though - and 4 blocked kicks is pretty impressive. I don't know that Hodgins can't stick on the PS - i just know that if hes on the 53, hes just sitting there probably not even dressing on game days. He was the 29th guy selected out of 34 WRs in the draft - while he had value where he was selected, there are concerns about his ability to separate at this level. I'm ok with the 3 running backs but i'll probably put the UDFA Antonio Williams on the PS just in case. Same with TE - i might keep smith and put sweeney on the PS. Probably good from a long term standpoint, but cutting into offensive flexibility by removing someone like McKenzie just to think about 2021 and beyond? Johnson I'd probably put on the PS too. With 2 extra spots, id keep the gadget guy in mckenzie and marlowe.

Feels like that offense really doesn't have a ton of talent at skill positions Dillon should help with Jones i guess - but Adams and ??? at WR and TE.

For Gilliam - 1.4 mil cap savings by cutting dimarco - keeping Gilliam would cost 600k so a savings of 800K. Thats not enough to justify a roster move. Its competition at its finest. Gilliam blocked 4 kicks at toledo, and is a high character type of player. I don't see anything dimarco has done to guarantee anything. No huge blocks, nothing major in the RZ, no big plays on offense and nothing super notable on special teams.

Seems like Bill knew, and told him to wait til post-draft. They grabbed Keene to sort of play a FB/H-Back role for them. Good player - ST contributor too.

I mean - deep balls don't have anything to do with velocity though. With proper timing and trajectory a weak armed QB can still complete deep throws. Petermans tendency to always go low in high/low reads was his biggest problem. He also glued his eyes to a single target pre-snap based on a matchup he liked, and didn't stray from it.

I believe its like a sideline out route - and they do one to each side of the field. Trying to simulate a situation where you would want to throw a heater. You know which ones they are like checking velocity on, but i think if you throw it out of bounds trying to put mustard on it that wouldn't look good either. I know some of the softer arm guys train this one to try and up the numbers so their "weak" arm doesn't test weak.

Dunlaps a pretty good player too. 8-10 sack guy with a few forced fumbles. Dunlaps good with his gaps too, seems to shrug off tackles and make plays in the backfield too.

It really will only come to play when you have multiple players banged up at one position. Rather than activate a PS guy for the 53 for a game or two you might just push him on the 55 for a week or two. Just saves you the extra moves to accommodate that situation. Normally youd have to drop someone off 53, activate the other guy, maybe he dresses maybe he doesnt. Then afterwards you cut the one guy, maybe bring back the original guy, and hope that the other guy can then get moved back onto the PS.

It's still 53. You can activate 2 PS players on game days for 55, but they're not roster protected like 53

College kicking is much more challenging with their significantly wider hash marks. I feel like there are more grass fields too.

Probably right - i think the bengals have some good players on offense, especially if they can remain healhty. Miami has a lot more new parts to their team too - Lots of new linemen and new running backs. I like parker a bit, but their receivers aren't great. Those big guys like parker tend to run hot and cold.

Depends how condensed camp is - but if they get anything ressembling a full camp i expect tua. If not i expect tua by week 4-6 since he'll get 3+ weeks of practice time with the team.

I think what i want from a backup QB is as close to a 50/50 shot to win. Like if the team is say 11-5 with allen, i would want the backup to get me to 8-8/7-9. Mostly because if Allen misses half a game, or 2 games or whatever - 50/50 is good odds. Our current backup is a 30 year old journey man who carries a sub 60% career passer, with no running threat, a 1:2 TD to INT ratio, and 10 fumbles in 14 games. It was worth it to try and improve the backup QB.

And in a no huddle teams tend to get trapped in coverage mis-matches like this. NE would always do this and identify the mismatch with Gronk.

Sounds good to me! 4 years at a dirt cheap contract too - with so many WRs coming out this year too he may even stick on a practice squad since so many WR needy teams drafted multiple WRs.
