  1. Me use Firefox and Vista. Am me screwed?
  2. when I try to enter it says connection closed
  3. We will be watching for you when they show Bills fans in the crowd. I assume Kenny is there with his bowling ball shot bar. It is sunny and 54 degrees here in Rochester!
  4. Actually they did not agree on "marriage". Biden said it was OK. Palin said she would 'tolerate' legal contracts between committed same sex couples but would not call it marriage. I take no stand. This is just what I think I heard.
  5. <hic> OW! <hic> OW! <hic> OW! <hic> OW! not everyone.
  6. Her new buzzword is "maverick"! Hell if McCain can be Maverick, she can be Palladin (Have Gun Will Travel). Not to be out-done Biden is buddies with Joe Six Pack! Neither of them said a lot that was true or profound, but Palladin did it in kitchen talk and JSP Biden did it while speaking in tongues (washingtonese ebonics).
  7. Thanks for the weekly fuel. Be careful, I heard somebody robbed the Glendale Train this morning at half-past nine! (and I swear I ain't lying)
  8. Anyone know why this is not an issue in Rochester? Did they pay up, or did they just not get tagged yet?
  9. Get out the rabbit ears. That will still work for a while!
  10. That sounds like the book. I could easily mistake the color. If you could check it in your spare time to see if it has these chapters, I would be sure. The Grown-up Game Bulldogs, Tigers and Boilermakers One Game, One Football Good luck finding another copy! I am also keeping in mind that we was in his early 80's when they spoke with him. I think he founded the Jeffersons in 1908, and the article was from 1960. It reads well and matches much of what I have read. I want an autographed copy when it comes out! Would you like an article I wrote for TBD on Henry "Motorcycle" McDonald? I will scan my news articles and see how they come out. I should be abe to e-mail them.
  11. I would love a description of the book. I remember it was a fairly small (9" x 6" maybe) cloth hard cover with a tan or faded orange color. Some chapter titles were" The Grown-up Game Bulldogs, Tigers and Boilermakers One Game, One Football I have a photocopy of an article from the Rochester D&C stamped "Jan 22 1960" with an interview with Leo Lyons. It says Lyons was at the organization meeting of the American Professional Football Association in 1919 in Canton Ohio (Rochester, Akron, Dayton, Columbus, and Canton). Franchise fee was $25 ! It became the NFL in 1921. Lyons also said he turned down George Halas, who applied for a job as an end for $75 a game. He said he had two good ends already and did not know anything about Halas at the time. Another article I copied (someone wrote RVF - Sports - History on it) says that his franchise fee, in 1921 when he joined the NFL, was $75. It also quotes Lyons as turning Halas down in 1923 and that he still had the "wire" from Halas. This was also around 1960. THIS is a better copy than what I have of the Jefferson's 1923 franchise document. Enough archives for tonight!
  12. Great stuff, Ken! I am still pissed at you are not running for President again.
  13. It was definitely not that book. It was a small hardcover that centered on early football history with an emphasis on western NY, especially Rochester. I will dig through my "stuff" and see if I can come up with a name. I did most of my research in the late 1980's - early 90's, and the internet was not an available tool for me. Most of what I have was from legwork: library copies, microfiche print, old magazines, etc.
  14. Ooops! I read the Lyons/Halas story in a book from the library. Low print and rare - could not check it out. A guy I know with a card shop called the Hot Stove League also had a copy but it was not for sale. Halas definitely did not make the Jeffersons and did go to Decatur. It was a few years before the Syrup company sold him the team. I am drawing from memory here and do not have the depth of research you have on football history, no argument!
  15. That was some legal thing that either went away or just jason petered out.
  16. Do not forget the Tonawanda Kardex! The ONLY NFL team to lose just one game in their franchise history. I love researching this stuff, but you guys RULE, Ken. I have a copy of the Rochester Jeffersons NFL franchise contract. I think it cost $25 to join. Unfortunately it is a poor print of newspaper microfiche from the pubic libray. Leo Lyons (player-manager of the Jeffs) turned away TE George Halas. So George went to play for the Decatur Staleys (Staley Syrup), later bought the franchise and moved to Chicago, where he renamed his team the Bears. More Nit Pickin' from nfl.com 1920 The American Professional Football Conference (including Rochester Jeffersons) changed its name to American Professional Football Association (including Buffalo All-Americans) 1922 The American Professional Football Association changed its name to the National Football League. So both teams were in the first year of the NFL.
  17. Those were from the 1940's weren't they? Most jersies from that era were ugly.
  18. I know I am in BIG minority here, but I like the current road jersies.
  19. I personally would not like to bring back the jersey of a team that went bankrupt, but that's just me. Most of the first year AFL uniforms were just the cheapest the owners could get. They HAD no money and barely had fans in the stands. The Bills had a white shirt and plain (gray?) helmet with a number on it.
  20. They will fit right in with the clueless ones already here, but at the same time will ADD some new people who HAVE a clue.
  21. I remember sitting in the stadium in 64-66 when the Bills had two AFL champions and were 1st the the east in for three years in a row (there was only an east and a west then). Bills players would sit on their bench with helmets on because fans were throwing full cans of beer at them. Booth Lustig was beaten up outside the stadium after the game when he missed a chip-shot field (22-23 yards maybe?) and the game ended in a tie with (I think) the Chargers. My aunt was a nurse in Buffalo and Ralph W was in there (I do not remember why) and the nurse who cared for him was the one who drew the short straw! AND, as you were referring to, if Kemp made ANY mistake, the stadium began (phonetic) chants of "DAR-REL, DAR-REL, DAR-REL, DAR-REL.
  22. The Lennon Sisters. I wish I had to google that!
