  1. Seems kind of far fetched. The Bills are pretty weak at LB IMO, with Barnett as the only proven above average player. If Moats proves himself worthy of trade value, wouldn't it make more sense to keep him to bolster our own LB unit? Unfortunately I just don't think he is that good. The battle for the LB roster spots should be interesting this year though. With Scott taking up a LB roster spot, and Bradham and Carder likely (but not guaranteed by anymeans) to get roster spots. What does that leave, maybe 1 other spot for Moats/Batten/Eddins/McKillop to grab? If the Bills put Bradham or Carder on the practice squad, that might open another spot. Bradham apparently hasn't impressed the coaches all that much so far, but it would seem risky putting him on the practice squad. Either of those guys really.
  2. I don't buy that article at all, I think they were really reaching on that one. Just because Moats got some time with the starting unit, doesn't mean he is seriously being considered for the starting role. If anything, I'm thinking it is a situational thing. Barring something catastrophic, Morrison will be the starter. Moats must be making a good impression though, and looks like he has a chance to make the team. Something I did not believe would happen at the beginning of camp. Moats has a decent rush, but struggles in coverage, and especially wrapping up ball carriers. He struggles at two of the most important aspects of that position. I was with you until you said you wanted to see Sheppard on the outside? Sheppard has only played MLB his entire college and pro career, that makes no sense. I am a little concerned that Sheppard was appointed the unquestioned starter last year after having proven very little, but I don't think we have any better options at this point.
  3. I don't mind keeping the Wild Cat to give defenses one more thing they have to plan for...However it's no secret that Brad Smith can't throw (which is ok, we want him to run). Yes he played QB in college, a run first QB. I bet half the players on our team at any position can throw the ball at least as well if not better than Smith. Betty White could probably throw a tighter spiral. Keep in mind, I think part of the Smith signing was just so the Jets wouldn't have him. He was definitely effective for them.
  4. I am going to go with Easley and Sheppard. Not because they are my favorite players, but because I think they are key to this team being successful. The Bill's badly need someone capable opposite SJ, Jones hasn't looked good IMO. Despite his 3rd round status, I don't see Graham as ever being anything more than a rotational/gimmick guy. So I think we need either Easley or Hagan to step up. Sheppard was named the unquestioned starter, despite having proven almost nothing. I'd love for him to prove that he is the stud that the Bills coaching staff is touting him as. Despite our improved line, having a good MLB is key to a successful 4-3 defense. We NEED Sheppard to be good if we want our defense to be good. So I will definitely be pulling for him to be a difference maker. Favorite player? I am dying to see Dareus eat up O-lines, playing with more help up front...
  5. Plus, when Merriman was signed he was only 26. And this year most of his salary is guaranteed, so there is no point in cutting him unless he really can't play. His use of this as an example of comparative logic was a little off...
  6. Lol, I am baffled as to why people don't understand why TO and Burris are still unemployed. These are two very old, troubled, locker room cancers. Beyond that, neither of them can run any more, TO is coming off major knee surgery and couldn't even stick with his OWN arena league team. So far all of the GM's in the NFL must agree... Further more, the redzone wasn't a big problem for us last year. Guys like SJ, Chandler, and Nelson did a great job in the redzone. Our problem was open field, we had no one that could get open with any sort of speed opposite SJ. I don't see how making our receiving corp significantly slower helps us. These are not the veteran "mentors" you want "helping" your young team.
  7. Great find, but come on Bruce, put a little effort into it!
  8. They still do these? The ESPYS are about as meaningful as the AVN Awards.
  9. Someone sounds butthurt that no one likes him (big surprise after reading this)...And it's not our fault he wasn't anything more than a mediocre slot receiver. You're irrelevant, always have been, disappear...How the heck did he get interviewed anyway?
  10. If a guy like Fitzgerald is good enough to do something like this, as a rookie WR, it would seem wise to take advantage of it. Of course I haven't heard too many people remarking on the "wisdom" of Floyd.
  11. I never said we shouldn't evaluate the player, and started my post by admitting I had never seen the guy play. I am merely commenting on what has been reported about the guy. A one year sophomore receiver with decent, not spectacular numbers even though he was playing with one of the best college QB's of all time. A guy described as being a poor route runner. He is getting hype for his potential, due to good measurables. I'm not jumping to any conclusions, just offering my opinion on the information available. Height and 40 times alone don't make a good receiver, we have seen many 6-4+ guys bomb out over the last 4 years or so, including our own high 2nd rnd pick. Perhaps the scouts see something watching the guy play that can't be easily explained in scouting reports, who knows. This guy IMO seems like a long shot, and probably isn't worth the risk of a mid/high round pick. For the record I didn't like Hill in the 2nd either, big risk/reward guy. I'm not a big gambler. Even so his body of work was more impressive IMO, playing in what was mostly a run first, short passing game, with a virtually unknown QB.
  12. Granted I've never seen the guy play, but every article I read about him makes me scratch my head as to why he is a "prospect" at all. So the guy basically played one year of college, and posted mediocre stats with one of the best college QB's of all time. Then transferred only to not play because of drug issues. Scouts list him as "raw", and a "poor route runner", and by the time the season starts it will have been almost 2 years since he played competitive ball. Yeah, sounds like a winner to me. I honestly don't see how he is worth ANY draft pick, let alone a 2nd. Maybe worth a risking a 5th/6th, but I just don't see how he would be worth the risk. Even if this kid runs a 4.2 40, it doesn't make him a good receiver. This is also a guy unlikely to make much of an impact as a rookie. Combine him with Graham, who also will probably struggle to contribute as a rookie and that would mean we end up cutting guys like Hagan. That would leave us very short on guys who CAN contribute this year. This would be a step back for the immediate future. This situation kind of reminds me of Maurice Clarett, and we all know how well that worked out.
  13. For me the 4th is a tie between Kelly Holcomb, and Geoff Hangartner
  14. This is true, but I think more important than that is the simple fact that this guy would make a very solid reserve DT in a 4-3. Before the Bills went to the 3-4, I thought Johnson was our most impressive DT at the time, and he didn't even start most games. That's exactly the role we would want him to play now. Solid DT coming off the bench. Carrington looks interesting, but unproven as an inside pass rushing specialist, heard has size, but only Johnson has already proven he can fill this role, and at a high level. As I mentioned before, Dwan has never played in a pure 4-3 scheme as a pro, and is the oldest, highest paid DT on the team. Keep in mind KW is coming back from having his achilles reattached, no small thing. And DT's are some of the biggest guys on the team, we need good reserves at that position.
  15. I would strongly dispute that, especially when you consider he has basically only played 3-4 DE as a pro. Teams had no problems running at him last year. Spencer Johnson is a far more talented 4-3 DT IMO. Plus, Edwards is by far the highest paid interior linesman on the team (2012 base salary), that includes KW, Dareus, and Johnson. The guy is also getting up there in football years (31) and has chronic spine issues. He has a lot going against him and I would be quite shocked if he makes the team. That still leaves Johnson, Heard, Carrington, with Troup also looking for a spot. So Gilbert would need to be down right dominant (or some injuries) in camp to secure a place on the opening day roster.
  16. I always root for Edwards, always liked the guy...Too bad he sucks.
  17. Well put. Dwan doesn't belong on this team, and would be forced to play out of position. He was far from impressive during his time with the Bills anyway IMO. Oh yeah, he also has by far the highest 2012 salary of all interior D-linesman (Yes, more than the freshly signed Kyle Williams, More than Dareus, more than Spencer Johnson). I also am a Spencer Johnson fan, I think this guy is underrated, and would be a key reserve for the Bills if they keep him. He is a solid 4-3 guy that should never have been forced into the roles he was the past 2 years. Troup if healthy? Man that's a big IF. Even if he is healthy, there is nothing to say he is a good player anyway. He has shown nothing yet, injury or not. Carrington could be interesting as an inside pass rushing specialist, I think Heard is promising as well. He's got good size, and good mobility for that size. I think he is a capable backup. If we lose KW or Dareus to injury though, certainly our D-line all of the sudden doesn't seem quite so formidable...
  18. The GM and coaching staff had only a few months to get to know the Bills, their players, their needs, and their scouting department. Modrak was still there for their first draft and very much a part of that process. While this is a little speculation on my part, I believe the subsequent years Nix was able to mold the scouting department to his liking, and properly prepare for the draft. As we know, most of Modrak's drafts could be described as failures, Nix's drafts that were HIS OWN, appear to be pretty darn solid at this early stage. If I remember correctly, the Bills were also trying to save face for Modrak as to not hurt his career post Bills. He was after all a Ralph favorite. So I agree with your statements, although I am generally considered a pessimist, not an optimist. So those references could be backwards in that regard.
  19. I got the impression that he struggled in mini camps, save for the one practice that he scored two TD's. The guys that were getting the hype in mini camp were Easley and Hagan.
  20. I like how DTV basically acknowledged that they were over charging people this year by dropping the price to what many people have been paying all along. It's a shame you have to call and go through the dance every year just to get a reasonable rate. I can't deny that it is a great product though...
  21. Well he can't be any worse than Bell. Him going to the Eagles was one of the best things that happened to the Bills all off season. Between Hairston entering his second year, and a touted rookie like Glenn, we are looking MUCH better at that position. We also have Zebrie Sanders for even more depth... I also like how no one in the sports world even know's Ryan Fitzpatrick's name...
  22. Guaranteeing success is FAR different than saying your team is "close to being a contender". Harmless statement that pretty much everyone in the sports media is also making...
  23. I think the Bills are getting a little over hyped, but there is nothing wrong with what CJ said. He didn't "guarantee" a SB, he didn't even say they will make it to the super bowl, he didn't even say they were super bowl contenders... He said he thought the team is close to being a contender. I bet most of the sports world would probably say the same thing about the Bills. Basically this was nothing, turned into something by the media on a slow day.
  24. <---Hot steelers fan Also, I remember at the Bills Steelers game in Buffalo last game of the season where Willie Parker and the rest of their backups beat Bledsoe to keep us out of the playoffs. There were 2 Steelers fan chicks behind us, one cute, one chunky. We tried to get the cute one to flash us, they both did and the chunky one had long curly hairs around her nipples. I don't know how I didn't throw up all over her. Me and my buddy have been scarred to this day, and that's all I can think of when someone says "Steelers fan". On the plus side, it distracted me from one of the most disappointing games I have ever attended.
