While I very much want Coples to fail as a Jet, the guy has looked like a beast so far for them. I don't know what you've been watching. Unfortunately he looks to be very worth the value of that 1st round pick at this point. He may not be a top notch pass rusher, but he has been tremendous against the run. No doubt, the Jets have some serious O-line problems though, could make for a fun opener. I'm also not ready to consider Glenn a solid NFL LT either. He looked good in the 2nd game, after struggling in the first.. He has a lot to prove, let's hope he does so. Apparently no NFL team considered him to be a 1st round pick, I'd like to see him play with a chip on his shoulder.
-
Yeah, typo. I meant to say he has been playing DT, a position he hasn't played before.
-
Think of the bigger picture chief. All 3 of those guys were brought in specifically to play in a 3-4 defense. Troup was hurt pretty much from day one, Dwan Edwards played fine, but isn't suited to this defense. And Carrington is now being asked to play defense tackle, something he has never done before. He was playing pretty well at 3-4 DE. I think the only thing you can really blame Nix for, is signing Edwards as our defensive coordinator.
-
I think Dwan Edwards is next. He has looked ok as a backup, but nothing special. Considering he is making more than Kyle Williams, Dareus, and Spencer Johnson this year, I doubt the Bills are willing to keep him at that price. Very much similar to Merriman's situation as an expensive mediocre backup.
-
This was inevitable. Glenn has pretty much been the only guy practicing with the first unit at LT, since Hairston had to play RT. The Bills simply don't have any other legitimate options. Sam Young didn't look awful as a backup, but he was a penalty machine. Hopefully Pears comes back, and in form, so that we have some legitimate depth (either he or Hairston). The interior of the line looks solid, but expect Fitz to be getting rid of the ball quickly again this year. The tackles have some developing to do yet... I will say I thought Glenn struggled in the first game, but looked better the 2nd game against a pretty good Vikings D-line. Improvement week to week is always encouraging.

I don't get how Batten would be a surprise DE, when he has been playing almost entirely at LB. Also both Gailey and Batten himself have admitted to him struggling, he is probably a long shot to make the team. I haven't paid close attention to Eddins, but I liked him at LB last year, has he been getting looks at DE? Moore is the only "noname" DE I have seen make any impact, and only a slight one against 3rd stringers. Gilbert maybe? Although I haven't seen much of him in the preseason games. I will say that Merriman looked pretty bad in that last preseason game, so whoever it is probably won't be much of a drop off. They will be cheaper, and might even have more upside.

I didn't think replacement ref's would be a big deal, but wow have they been awful. They can't spot the ball correctly, some of them don't even know the signs for the penalties. In one game they called illegal block in the back on the KICKING team on a punt, which should be impossible. Not to mention calling the ball downed at the 6 yard line a touchback!?!? They are missing many blatant calls such as holding and PI, and calling a ton of phantom hold's, off sides, and false starts. The extra replay's have gone a long way to help reduce the impact of these guys, but this will end up having a huge impact in the regular season if the real officials aren't brought back.

Aaron Williams Criticism?
Turbosrrgood replied to Johnny Hammersticks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Williams has looked like a stud every time he steps on the field. He was by far our best CB last year as a rookie, I thought he looked pretty good against the Vikes as well. No one is going to perfect and prevent every pass targeted against him, especially in the pre-season. I think the Bills have a very solid secondary now, but there will be a few "hiccups" with all those young players. Now our LB's on the other hand....Yikes. I went from thinking Moats wouldn't make the team, to thinking he is the best LB on the team. Which doesn't say much about the other guys. Sheppard looks very slow and very lost so far, McKillop has looked much better. -
Bills Release Merriman!
Turbosrrgood replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This actually doesn't surprise me at all. I thought he looked pretty weak in the last pre-season game, and hecommands too high a salary to be a low quality out of position backup. Too bad, I was routing for him to regain form, I just don't see it happening. Also too bad that we gave him all that guaranteed money... Kelsay on the other hand has looked very good all pre-season. He is a good compliment to the pure pass rushers like Williams and Anderson... -
Will Ron Brooks take McGee's place?
Turbosrrgood replied to Luxy312's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not trying to harass you, just pointing out the truth. Moats is a first team player (Morrison was second team), and blitzed several times. He even had a borderline late hit on the QB in the endzone. And since you were specifically talking about the defense in regards to Brooks, how can the 2nd/3rd team not matter? That's where Brooks was playing. -
Will Ron Brooks take McGee's place?
Turbosrrgood replied to Luxy312's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's actually not a bad idea, but I don't think it will happen. Bottom line is McGee isn't healthy, if he was he would make a great Nickle back. I doubt the Bills are going to cut a young healthy guy, to keep a battered unhealthy veteran, with a veteran salary. I'm a big McGee fan, but his football time might be over. -

I was actually surprised that the bills WERE blitzing. Moats Blitzed on several occasions, Batten blitzed at least once. It actually looked pretty clear to me that the Bills are willing to bring 5 occasionally on passing downs, even in the pre-season. Moats and Batten also happen to be perfect candidates for that, being converted DE's (rare for 4-3 LB's). -

Turbosrrgood replied to Luxy312's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've always liked McGee, and was said to hear he wasn't recovering well from his latest injury. That being said, McGee may be hard pressed to make this team. In fact I think he is fairly certain to be cut. Brooks did look great throughout his playing time in that game, and he will certainly press McKelin (currently penciled in at Nickle). Brooks also has the advantage of playing the Nickle spot as his primary position. Also, McKelvin sucks as a CB (just my opinion). Justin Rogers is also in the mix, and seems pretty likely to make the team as the 5th back. If the Bills keep 6 CB's, then McGee has a chance to stay providing he can get healthy. Other Bills CB's have showed some decent skills so far though as well. Nix also indicated he wanted 4 safeties PLUS Bryan Scott. So the Bills very well could be going into the season with 5 (Gilmore, Williams, Brooks, McKelvin, Rogers) Money, McGee restructured his deal. -
What a limp wristed p****y! Thanks for the job! Terrell Davis...

First preseason game (some good things)
Turbosrrgood replied to Wagon Circler's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you, based on where our talent lies on offense. Two problems though, no one runs the power I any more, and if they did Gailey would be the last to use it. Gailey seems pretty intent on running a college style offense. He want's to use spread formations, often out of the shotgun, and he want's to use the wild cat. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, but we won't see much power running. Hopefully we do still see plenty of FJ and CJ though, this type of offense could be particularly good for CJ, who I don't think could play in power formations. -
First preseason game (some good things)
Turbosrrgood replied to Wagon Circler's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Top performers IMO. Brooks (He wowed me in that game), McKillop (Thankfully, we need a decent backup MLB), Merriman (He looked great, but we saw this last year in pre-season too). Moorman (I thought he looked great, never understood all the criticism). Chandler. Sorry, but IMO, the offensive line looked awful from starters on down. I liked Hairston last year, but he struggled on the right in that game. Hopefully Pears comes back and can be effective. Glenn didn't look awful, but he didn't look very good either. Obviously it's early, so hopefully he improves quickly, we badly need him to be good. Everyone knows this, but we have no WR's behind SJ. He looked fine, the rest of the WR corps looked worthless as expected. TJ Graham could be a nice weapon in spread formats, but he can never be a starter unless he loses his fear of defenders. He will drop 90% of balls where there is contact, or contact is imminent. The good news here is that Chandler looked absolutely great to me, and Nelson should be back soon as our only other proven WR. To blame Fitz for the problems above is just asinine. I thought he looked fine given the 1.5 seconds he had to throw every down. Carder looked good, and seems to get to the ball on every play...Then can't figure out how to tackle the ball carrier. Where was Bradham? The refs were hilarious in this game. What league did they come from where it's a touchback when the ball is downed on the 5 yard line? -
Marcus Easley....the new James Hardy
Turbosrrgood replied to K-Gun10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Got ya. Yeah, he was SUPPOSED to be a steal, but that hasn't been the case to this point. At this point I'm just hoping he can contribute at all. -
Marcus Easley....the new James Hardy
Turbosrrgood replied to K-Gun10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is just a confusing post...How can a guy play a regular season game before he is drafted? He certainly played at UConn. I'm not sure what you consider a sleeper pick to be, but for me it's a guy with big skills potential that doesn't get the same hype as other players at that talent level. After he was drafted the term "sleeper pick" was used quite frequently to describe Easley, I didn't make it up. A guy taken in the 4th round, with 2nd round potential (again, yes I know he hasn't shown it yet). -
How did Tank Carder look?
Turbosrrgood replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with your statements about Tank. He was fast, instinctive, and always around the Ball... Unfortunately he did show one big problem, he didn't seem to be able to actually make tackles. He just kept slipping off of guys and just looked small. He needs to bulk up, and work on his tackling technique. He definitely has promise though, could be good in the long term and might be a good ST'er. I have a feeling he may be on the practice squad to start the year though, although I'm sure I'll be flamed for saying that. As far as Brooks goes, it was far more than just the interception. He looked great on every play he was on the field. He showed the ability to stick to guys like glue, combined with instincts to look for the ball. IMO, he was by far the most impressive player in that game for the Bills. -
Marcus Easley....the new James Hardy
Turbosrrgood replied to K-Gun10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On the field, yes that's what I said. I didn't say regular season games. Training camps, pre-season games, ect... I'll explain my stance on Easley a bit more for further clarity. My point, and that post, was simply that his situation was not comparable to Hardy's. Hardy was a guy that failed miserably on and off the field as a high draft pick, his injury was just a foot note. Easley has looked pretty good at times, but doesn't seem to catch the ball consistently. I don't think he's "great" (how could anyone, no ones seen enough), but I definitely think hes good enough to beat out the other scrubs the Bills have at WR. I think his reported reduction in playing time today, was simply to get a closer look at the guys on the bubble (I'm thinking Clowney doesn't survive the next round of cuts). All other accounts of Easley seem to have been good. -

How did Tank Carder look?

I thought McKillop played well, and Tank struggled. I'm assuming the coaches have seen this in camp, which is why they played it that way. -
How did Tank Carder look?
Turbosrrgood replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tank has quickness and instincts, and seemed to be around the ball carrier every play. Unfortunately he looks and plays tiny at MLB. While he gets to the ball carrier on most plays, he seemed powerless to actually tackle them. Hopefully he can bulk up a little bit and work on his tackling technique. Carder and Bradham were popular after the draft, but so far they don't seem to be to popular with the coaches. -
Marcus Easley....the new James Hardy
Turbosrrgood replied to K-Gun10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, I just think this comparison was way off. Hardy was considered one of the top WR's in that entire draft. Hardy looked awful when he was on the field, then got hurt, then beat up his dad. Easley was a mid-round sleeper pick, who has looked pretty good when he has been on the field. He Blew out his knee and had heart problems. Sure, they both got hurt, but that's a comparison you could make with about 1000 other NFL players... This time of year, these types of quotes make perfect sense. Martin, Clowney, and Roosevelt all are somewhat long shot's to make the team. The Bills are probably giving these guys extended looks right now to see who (if any of them) survive the next round of cuts. I don't know that it necessarily mean Easley is bombing out. Judging from what I have seen of Clowney, this guy is as good as gone... Or should be anyway, he stood out to me as the worst player on the roster on Thursday. -
Merriman was a 3-4 OLB...Basically a DE. He does not fit as a LB in a 4-3. Merriman is a pass rusher only, he needs to play on the line of scrimage.
