  1. Fitz is owed a 3M Roster bonus if he is on the team on March 1st. Fitz is owed a salary of 8M if he is on the roster on opening day (and it is guaranteed for the season, if he makes it to the opening day) Not sure what is the Salary cap hit, if we were to cut him before March 1st (to save the 3M cash). It is also possible that Fitz may take a decent pay cut to stay back as a starter for one more year (while the Bills draft their QB in the draft) as his chance to start for another team in the league is almost zero. Of course, I don't like the idea of Fitz starting for us next season, but it is a reasonable possibility, as the difference between a Fitz Vs Smith or Fitz Vs Vick or Fitz Vs Flynn (who is an unknown) is almost negligible. Also, both Alex Smith and Vick's contract demands will be more than Fitz. The only other alternative is for the Bills to go with the rookie QB right from training camp (Like Dalton and Ponder for the Bengals and Minnesota last season and like the 4 rookie QBs this season).
  2. If Horton is really that hot candidate, then I just don't see Arizona letting him go especially considering that Reid (their first choice) will sign with the Chiefs. That leaves Lovie, Wisenhunt or McCoy to the Bills (Assuming Kelly goes to Philadelphia). Will Chicago make a run for an offensive minded coach like McCoy or Wisenhunt. Where do the Browns stand in all this. Is Maronne their first choice?
  3. Agreed. Of the bunch, Wisenhunt really created a QB mess in Arizona. Agreed, he had poor offensive line play, but that does not give you a pass to be not able to bring a consistency to that position. He wavered so much on the QB position that they were starting a different QB almost every game.
  4. A HC must perform his responsibility of being the coach of the entire team. When he takes on additional play calling duties, then it is overwhelming (at least for most of the coaches).
  5. And also be just HC. I would like them also to give up calling the plays on the Offense. One of the failings of Chan was that with the OC duties, he simply did not have the time to be the HC of the Buffalo bills. It appeared that there were no chemistry between the HC and the Defensive and ST players. I rarely saw Chan congratulating and patting the Defensive players when they came off the field.
  6. Nice summary. Is this the first year that Bill Cowher is not on anyone's list? Actually, Cowher to Chicago would be a great move. He already has a QB and a good running game and a great WR. He can bring the necessary toughness that team lacks.
  7. Actually not. THe NFL had already figured out the pop-warner throws of Fitzpatrick a few games before Freddie got hurt. Let us not rewrite history here.
  8. Who will be the QB? If it is Fitz, then this team does NOT make the playoffs.
  9. That will change when you get a decent QB who puts fear on the opposing defense with the ability to make a long play. When Spiller is your only weapon, then the opponents are going to stack the line. If Norv Turner is the OC, I can see Spiller enjoy a great season with him
  10. Completely agree. Some of the folks on the board make it appear that Wilson was making decisions on his own without any input or consultation from Nix and Russ Brandon. In my opinion, the only thing that is changed is the ability for Russ to make a quick decision on something before having to run it by Mr. Wilson.
  11. These 3-5 years in waiting don't grow on trees...If they were so good, they would have already started for their current team. Your FA/Trade options may be Alex Smith or Flynn.
  12. The Bengals received 2 1st rounders for the rights to Carson Palmer...Another asinine trade by the Raiders.
  13. Jimmy Johnson (With the Dolphins), though sucking is a pretty strong term for his tenure. Shanahan was going to be a bust at DC before RGIII/Morris bailed him out
  14. The original point was whether you would take a HC job in Buffalo or stay back as a OC or DC in your current location. In that context, the point is relevant.
  15. Russ Brandon is cheap... Cost Cutting....Littman and Overdorf control the Bills
  16. How so. The Broncos went to the playoffs right the next year and are the #1 seed this year. Add Mangini to the list. The one person who is having success is the Atlanta GM. But then they do have a Franchise QB.
  17. There is no published information anywhere to indicate that Chan did not have his players respect. The only time I saw any discontent was SJ mouthing off after the play call to throw to TJ Graham against the Patriots and he apologized later.
  18. If Lovie can bring in a strong OC/DC like Norv Turner and Marinelli, I think that would be the best thing to happen to the Bills.
  19. This! Our special teams have been pedantic under DeHaven except for Carrington's 5 blocks. I really question the Veteran Leadership. Other than Eric Wood there is none who is vocal. The "team" leaders are Bart Scott and George Wilson who would not be starters on 31 other teams in this league and Merriman is done and not coming back. This team needs leadership at the QB position and LB position.
  20. And we have a decent to above average OL with a good/great Left side protecting a right handed QB. Alex can make the throws that Fitz cannot even attempt and is a far more accurate passer than Ftiz.
  21. At least will keep this team competing and into the playoffs....
  22. I don't think not drafting a QB cost Gailey (or Nix post 2013 draft) a job. The win-loss record in three years and a lack of progress towards making the playoffs cost them their jobs. I can't agree anymore with this statement. Buddy is part of this failed 3-year experiment. What good is going to come by keeping him around. It also sends wrong signals to the incoming HC. Are they going to be scared off with the lack of clarity at the GM position. Buddy has done well with hiring talent for the DL and getting some good FA and Waiver wire pick ups. However, he has missed on far too many top picks in three years to continue with him
  23. Completely Agree... Here is the timeline on QBs in the Nix/Chan Era. 2010 - Starts with Trent Edwards/Fitzpatrick in training camp. Names Edwards as starter and then pulls the plug after 3 games and makes Fitz starter. Fitz fizzles after a few good games. Signs Thigpen 2011 - Starts with Fitz and goes 5-1 against weak teams (except for the win against NE) and hands a 60M contract to Fitz. Comes down crashing rest of the year, winning just one more game 2012 - Struggled through the season making bad decisions at critical times. Had Vince Young in camp and cut him. Traded for Tavaris, but did not suit him up. There were good signs that Gailey was not successful with his QB choices. All the more for drafting potential franchise QBs in the draft.
  24. Was that more of the Denver Defense being very good ? Just asking.
