  1. I think Brandon could have had any one for GM if he wanted to. Whaley himself told at the press conference that NOTHING has been guaranteed to him (as far as GM is concerned) and the only thing he is focused about is his current job.
  2. Like Aaron Maybin...before teams figure him out after a few games!
  3. Byrd may be franchised, but he may sit out for a new contract. That usually doesn't go well when a new coaching staff is in place and requires a lot of learning. This situation can get ugly unless the Bills will make Byrd the highest paid FS in the league. Everyone know that McKelvin sucks as a CB, but is a great KR/PR. It is up to McKelvin to decide if he wants a change of scenery or stay back. Carrington was a beast on special teams, blocking multiple FG attempts. I hope they can negotiate a fair contract with him. Nelson needs to show consistency. I don't think they negotiate his contract this season. Merriman, Moore, Scott and McIntyre are all washed up or average players and can be easily replaced. It is time to bring in new bodies.
  4. How many 5-7th rounder QBs are successful in this league and taken their teams to multiple playoff appearance. From the teams that made the playoffs this year: AFC Brady - 6th Rd Manning - 1st overall pick Flacco - 1st Rd Dalton - 2nd Rd Schaub - 3rd Rd Luck - 1st overall pick NFC Kaepernick - 2nd Rd Rodgers - 1st Rd Wilson - 3rd Rd Ryan - 1st Rd (3rd overall) RGIII - 1st Rd (2nd overall) Ponder - 1st Rd I don't see any 4th to 7th Rounders in that group of QBs except for the immortal Brady. Other successful QBs who did not make it to the playoffs this year: Drew Brees - 2nd rd Ben Roethelisberger - 1st Rd Cutler - 1st Rd Vick - 1st Rd Manning - 1st Rd (1st overall) The bottom feeder teams are at the bottom because they do not have a qualified QB on their team. These include Buffalo, Jax, Jets, KC, Oakland etc. Too early to make this prediction. We still have the Free Agency and the Combine to go. The draft is still 3 1/2 months away.
  5. I just don't see Glenn as a RT in this league. Also, if the Bills are weak at the RT position, why not draft a replacement for that. No. It was the "beard"
  6. For all the talent on that team, Schaub is yet to reach a AFC Conference Title game.....Of course, I think the problem there is the HC. Given the talent on both sides of the ball, there is no reason for this team to choke like this year in year out. I am surprised Kubiak is still milking this team. And Hasselbeck hasn't done too bad in Tennessee either. If the Titans had kept Matt as the starting QB, they would have done better this season. It depends on the market. It is very possible that Reid will go after Flynn to run his version of WCO in Kansas City. The Jets may go after him, if the cost is not very high, but the upside is huge. The more competition for him, the trade value goes up.
  7. And I would rather have the Bills fail miserably by drafting a "reach" QB in the 1st round instead of drafting another set of DBs, who will either suck (McKelvin) or will go on to have an average career with us (Whitner) or sign with another team and do well for them (Winfield, Whitner).
  8. Actually 12 years...Donahoe signed him from Seattle in the 2nd season of GW after they struggled with a bunch of kickers in the 1st year. While coaches have come and gone, regimes have changed, he has been a constant.
  9. And neither did Chan's defense (especially considering that he hired a very inexperienced never-been-a-DC in Edwards to come in and convert a Tampa-2 defense into a 3-4 without a valid Nose tackle on the roster).
  10. Got to agree here. This years Coaching carousel has been very interesting. Other than Kansas City jumping on a retread like Andy Reid, all the other teams have refused to buy in the hype of "experienced NFL Coaches" in Wisenhunt, Lovie, Norv Turner etc. It is a clear indication that all the teams have looked at the poor win-loss record of all these coaches, their inability to get the best out of their QBs (including drafting a Franchise QB) and having no focus (San Deigo, Chicago and Arizona had big losing streaks this season) and decided that none of them are really good HC candidates to be hired. At the end of the day, Lovie Smith made 3 playoff appearances in 9 seasons. That is not a good recipe for success in the ever changing NFL. The same goes for Wisenhunt and Turner.
  11. Most of the scrubs that the Bills have cut in the past few years have found the Unemployment line. Kelsay will join them as I don't think there is any NFL team that will need a slow-footed run-wide DE
  12. I guess each Owner/GM have their own personal opinion in how they evaluate players/coaches and they have the right to make their choice as long as they are not discriminating. It will be hard for anyone to prove that there was actual racial discrimination. But clearly there is very effective "Old boys network" mafia in the NFL
  13. +1 to that. It is that time of the season, when the contending teams are deep in the playoffs, we are left to ponder how our next years team will fare.
  14. Based on what happened to the Bills three years ago, I think Brandon was initially scared to fire Buddy and be left with no GM (including Whaley, who does not have any guaranteed path to the GM position and hence could have deferred). He probably was surprised at the number of candidates that wanted to interview for the HC job and that they were able to make a selection rather than be dumped with one. By then it was too late to fire Nix and hire a new GM and hence is left with one with one foot out the door and the head hidden somewhere. The bills have nothing going easy for them
  15. It also could be the difficulty of consistently kicking in a cold weather place like Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Granted that Dawson was 7-7 on 50+ kicks. It would be interesting to know how many of those were in Cleveland. Having lived in Pittsburgh, I knew that a 50+ FG in Heinz field was a very low probability. In fact a 52yarder was the longest FG in Pittsburgh for a while. I don't think Lindell is a problem at this point on this team.
  16. Really don't know why Fewell was not given the HC job. They could have made Gailey the OC and he would have done a better job. Russ chickened out and went with the "name" recommended coach rather than promoting the interim HC. It is hard to say if race was a factor. I think it is more of the "Ole Boys Network" machine working rather than the race card. I want the Bills to make choices based on merit and nothing else.
  17. The choice of signing Levitre and Byrd may not be in the hands of Buddy but with Overdorf who does the cap. I am sure Buddy would want to re-sign both these outstanding players. The signing of Kelsay was seen as keeping leadership. Something I never understood. The problem was that the poor leadership of Gailey let this team down.
  18. +1. When opponents figured out the gimmicks added to the play calling and took away those plays, Fitz couldn't make the throws when necessary. The play that got him a lot of yards was the quick slant to Chandler or the Screen passes to the RBs.
  19. ' Why would anyone move Glenn to RT. He played LT for the Bills for 14 games and did very well. Glenn is the LT of this team for the foreseeable future. We have enough holes in other places to fill.
  20. Marc comes from the WCO. May be we don't the skill set for that type of game (or have not been successful in installing that with Rob Johnson etc)/
  21. +1. So defensive "ST" for the past three seasons. IF we have the same players, I don't understand why it will take a step back. DeHaven played scared, like his Head Coach.
  22. Doug is reaping the fruits of being part of the Bill Parcells tree. I hope he goes on to be as good as a Sean Peyton or a John Fox, who always seemed to have their teams prepared for the full 60 minutes, something that Jauron, Gailey have not been able to do.
  23. And I think that might be one of the problems. All these pre-game shows mostly have recently retired NFL players and coaches. These are not real journalists or TV folks. They tend to talk too rubbish, yet the networks continue to hire them...Emmit Smith, Tiki Barber, Sapp, Irvin, Keyshawn Johnson, Carter all suck and yet they continue to get these contracts...Now there will be Ray Lewis in your living rooms next season.
  24. Sapp is a marginal HOF player I don't think he gets in this year. I don't think Brown gets ahead of Reed. Remember, Reed beat out both Carter and Brown last year in the voting and made to the Top 10.
