  1. tanking a season is no different than taking a dive in boxing. It's flat out wrong. If you don't learn to win the right way now, the team never will have the right attitude, and what type of message does that send to the team? Nevermind what I think about fans wanting the team to lose.
  2. throwbacks from the 64-66 era please. I am still not sure why the team won't embrace that look again, they were the best, next to the 90's jerseys. I can't stand the current uniforms.
  3. with all honesty, the OP is correct, they are a much improved squad, and many in this thread have pointed out that Gailey's wrinkles, plus the quicker reads make by Fitzpatrick have added to the perception of the line's play, but I think they have a long way to go still. Simply put - Can this line dominate a defensive front yet? I think most here can agree the answer to that is no, and that's not considering the top tier teams. I will say I see this group only getting better with time, and possibly another well drafted player for the right side of the line. I don't think the teams needs to spend a high draft pick on an LT or RT right now though, I think DE and OLB should be the focus right now.
  4. something very similar happened to a father and his son as we exited the stadium after the Tennessee playoff game(music city mistake). those fans were poor.
  5. This would have made a good poll thread, but no, I still don't see the man as a great QB. Great athlete yes, and he is having a great year, but his career speaks for itself, and he is an average QB at best with poor downfield vision and accuracy. Secondly, yes he has paid his debt to society, and has moved on, but I don't like his character, and that's more than I need. Pass on Vick. FWIW - I'd also pass on Rothlisbooger too. I simply don't like his character, maybe the guys from the 90's teams have spoiled me, but I want to see a guy come to Buffalo with passion for the game, a love for the city, and a player that sees himself as a part of a team, not just a great player.
  6. I want to add a point of view nobody seems to take into consideration when analyzing drafts on this board: - Starting games is not always an indication of how good a player is, or how great a draft pick he is/was. And sometimes a player that doesn't start right away is not doing so on a team where the scheme has not been fully fleshed out, and throwing a rookie into that mix would not do him any good. Does that apply to Aaron Maybin, absolutely not, but so some of our newest draft picks, I'd say absolutely. I would always say it's a safe bet to judge a rookie/draft pick once he has had ample time to play and start(CJ Spiller comes to mind). It would be nice to see these guys play a while before we label them busts, a popular way to bash the front office around here.(Aaron Maybin excluded)
  7. I don't think I can find a link to it... it was a really good "circle the wagons" type of piece, and had more highlights in it than any piece of trash the NFL network showed all weekend.
  8. I can't believe how a simple highlight can give me goose bumps, but only the likes of Chris Berman can make a 1-8 victory feel that good. It's truly a blessing to have 1 person in the national media show a little respect to our team and community.
  9. I honestly think some of the obnoxious behavior would in fact subside if the team was winning. Most of the Bills fans from the superbowl era knew to have a little humility with our arrogance... Especailly after the 3rd loss. People who don't know the economic climate in Buffalo over the last 40 years really don't understand why we are a little wound up right now, and I don't blame anyone anymore for the excessive frustration people show these days, but I hope people begin to realize when they heavily impact others in a public place, maybe its time to dial it back. I'm no saint either, and don't want to sound preachy, but if we as Bills fans don't try to clean it up a bit, the NFL will force it.
  10. During my college days, it was a cool place to drink beer, grill out some food(if we had money left for food ) then play some football in the parking lot. As we got older, most of my friends and I found it more fun to drink in bars to get drunk. We still drank in the parking lot, but getting smashed was not the goal, in our 20's we found it no longer fun having to get up and piss every 11 minutes, and not get to see much of the game. To me, it just seems that the people that get that drunk really don't seem to even need the game, and that doesn't even make sense to me. Why go then? you can do that in a mall parking lot after hours, or your own yard on a Sunday, I don't see the point to getting so drunk you don't remember the game. Heckling the fans has become very out of hand in most stadiums, and sadly, the Bills fans are among the worst, I was on the receiving end in Tampa, and in Chicago, and in both instances, nearly had to fight my way back to my car. At this stage, I don't really find the game experience away from RWS worth it anymore, and that's why the NFL is stepping in. It's knuckleheads that take it too far that have caused the current NFL interaction.
  11. in a season where the record is not trending towards even a good season, I love how much intensity and focus the players have shown, and it's refreshing to see them believe in one another for once. If Ryan improves his accuracy, I don't see why he couldn't become a franchise QB. Right now though, he's not quite there yet. He is however the best QB this team has had since Flutie, (I did not like the cement shoe-ed Bledsoe era)
  12. I understand the frustration, and my only comment is that the transition to this new regime would probably have received a little more slack around here if the constant coaching and poor HC hires of the last 7 years had not occurred. I truly think this team is on the right track, and some of us guys who have learned that we have really nothing but patience to give are enjoying what we see as a far more competitive team than any of the last 6 seasons combined. The team is 1-8, actually playing solid offense for the first time since Bledsoe's first year, and have been exciting to watch. I have looked back at some of the wins, and when you see punt returns and kickoff returns as the reasons the team won, it feels a little hollow, since the offense couldn't score. This team is scoring now, and if it's any consolation, seems to be looking like a more complete team than in recent years despite the Win/Loss columns indicate. A solid follow up draft this off-season will do wonders next year, and I am hoping a few key defensive acquisitions help put the right people in position to succeed. With the exception if this last week, has anyone noticed how much fewer injuries this team has sustained? I don't think that's coincidence. My thumbs up to what looks like a much more physical, and better conditioned team, and that's not blind optimism, that's just the cold hard facts. I do hope more people speak up on some of the out-of-line comments, this is in fact a game, and whether or not the team wins or loses really doesn't give anyone the right to go over the top and bash people around here, or wish ill-will towards some players, coaches, etc. I have been lurking and reading some of the better posts around here since about '03, and never wanted to post, simply because of all the bashing people get when they post an honest opinion, but I am hoping to see this board turn a corner, and see some people realize we are all rooting for the same team, and for most, live in the same community. This board is becoming highly visible, and I'd hate to think what is said from time to time is an indication of the integrity and resolve most us are made of, and what Bills fans are truly like. Good post, thanks for taking the time to speak your mind.
