With the exception of Dan Carpenter on special teams EVERY OTHER PLAYER on this team over performing is on the defensive side of the ball, under the supervision and guidance of Mike Pettines coaching and scheme Players over performing to either their talent level or having career years. Here is the list of players. Dan Carpenter Jerry Hughes Leodis McKelvin Aaron Williams Mario Williams Kiko Alonso Now if you go to the offensive side of the ball there is not a single player over-performing. Marrones specialty is offensive line and his group as a whole has been regressing to awful status. Individual performances from Cordy Glenn and Eric Wood I would grade as consistent to previous years. Now we have the joint effort of Marrone and Hackett with the rest of the offense. Players not developing, regressing or having down years. CJ and Johnson are two of best talent on this team too. CJ Spiller Stevie Johnson Scott Chandler TJ Graham I won't put EJ Manuel on the list but his 1st year development is worrysome. The only bright spot on the offense has been Robert Woods but his production is nowhere near nor significant this year to put him on any list. However I am pleased with Woods and what he can bring to this team in the future. I think this really puts it into context how effective Mike Pettine really has been and shows how ineffective our coaching is in the other phases of the game.

CJ Spiller is an Outstanding Football Player
BuffaloBillsForever replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
CJ Spiller is the most talented player on the Bills IMO. He has been impressive despite how incompetent our offensive coaches are at utulizing this guy and don't optimize his strenghts in their scheme. The problem is the coaches. Also keep in context he has been dealing with a very bad ankle sprain all year long. It is the worst injury for a running back (any athlete really) because they just don't heal and as you see that ankle gets tweaked every single week he plays. You are better off breaking the ankle. Spillers ankle injury won't heal until the offseason. That ankle needs months of rest and healing. -
Yup. Our QB and our coaching staff stinks!

Joe D'Alessandris Appreciation Thread
BuffaloBillsForever replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think any of Chans assistants were even interviewed for jobs. I was under the impression IIRC, through Metzelars comments last year, he felt slighted from the Bills. I know a lot fans wouldn't have had a problem with Joe D coming back under Marrones regime. The fact is Marrone has hired worse coaches at each of their respective positions minus the defensive coordinator. -

Amazing job. McCoy, like Gailey are good offensive minds. I imagine it was an easy fit for Joe. -
Joe D'Alessandris Appreciation Thread
BuffaloBillsForever replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The sad thing is Brandon is neither a "baseball" or "football" guy. His specialty is marketing. All the more scary that he has total control of football operations in Buffalo and his track record thus far speaks to that. -
We are really missing this guy as much as Chan Gailey's offensive mind IMO. If you don't know who he is, he was the offensive line coach under Chan Gailey. Marrones speciality is offensive line but it is regressing really badly. D'Alessandris knows how to scheme around his talent to keep the QB clean. Gailey's era was one of the best in an era where talent was lacking and when at the time it was ALL due to Joe and Chan's quick passing scheme. Keep in context Joe 'D'Alessandris is now the offensive line coach for the Chargers and Phillip Rivers is having the best year of his career IMO. The San Diego offensive line is a top 5 o-line in the NFL at keeping the QB "clean". In the least amount of sacks and QB hits. 13 in the league in rushing and Rivers is having an MVP caliber year. Great job Joe! The Bills where dumb to get rid of you! Our offensive line is a mess right now.

Second half thread Bills vs. Jags

Against an AWFUL team depleted with injuries. His body of work reminds me of Trent Edwards to be honest. -

What I see as a red flag is that the Bills coaching staff are admitting they are scaling back an already vanilla offense for their rookie QB 14 games into the season. If things were going well they should be advancing the offensive scheme. -
Second half thread Bills vs. Jags

I think we saw Manuels body of work today all in one game. Bad drives followed by great drives, innaccurate at all distances of the field but manages to hit some intermediate passes. We keep on seeing poor pocket presence especially reading the outside blitz I don't think this game changed anything for me regarding him. -

Bills got lucky today. Keep in context the Bills are pretty much 100% healthy and the Jaguars arguably have the least amount of talent in the league with their two best stars injured. Marrone and his staff looked unprepared and EJ Manuel played an average football game against a below average football team. I did not see any progress today despite the W on the score sheet. Marrone and Manuel look a lot like Jauron and Edwards out there. -
Can't go at the QB knees and the tackle was at the knees. I know, ridiculous (and agree that it should NOT be a penalty or worse a fine) but that's what in the rule book these days. Can't go at the knees nor the head of the QB. I am not surprised at the fine. This is the "cheapness" of the new NFL and it will continue to only get worse over time.

Stevie Johnson: stay or go
BuffaloBillsForever replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pretty much. To put it in context Stevie has been a more productive WR than Andre Reed (and look at the teams Reed played on compared to Stevie). -
Stevie Johnson: stay or go
BuffaloBillsForever replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Voted a definite NO. We need to add around the core of Stevie, Goodwin and Woods. Where we cut ties is the depth below that core including Graham. -
How about Josh McCown?
BuffaloBillsForever replied to bufffan031's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Where Eli has consistently shined throughout his career is in the 4th quarter (so many clutch comebacks in the 4th quarter in the regular season) and his play in December and January. I would coin Eli as a clutch quarterback which is very rare in this league. He is kind of the opposite of Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys who put up great numbers early in the year and in quarters 1 -3, flops in the 4th quarters and implodes late in the regular season. -
Sully throws SJ13 under the bus
BuffaloBillsForever replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Woods and Goodwin will not replace Stevie IMO. They will be solid 3 and 4 guys. Stevie your #2. That's the core we have to keep. Then add a potential #1 in the draft. By trading Stevie you are creating another hole. While I think Woods is a solid player I don't think he can contribute to the extent we need to get out of a #2 guy like what Stevie has produced the last 3 years. Goodwin I can only hope becomes a James Lofton type. -

Disregard his years of body of work which is outstanding and attribute getting rid of him because of a few games (miniscule sample size) where he didn't play. Brilliant thinking. -

Our WR group is pretty lackluster and lacks depth to begin with. It would be really dumb to trade our most talented and complete WR on the team. We need to add talent. Stevie is not where you subtract in that core of WR players. Graham sure and the depth below him. -
..and the Bills and Marrone are regressing the development of their franchise QB by scaling down the offense. Marrone has been unable to develop or even show progress in development of a franchise QB in the 1st year and penalties have skyrocketed. I find that very worrysome with the team fundamentals (we rank in the top tier in fumbles) and penalties Marrone doesn't seem to know how to develop a QB IMO nor develop an offensive scheme to take advantage of their best players abilities (Spiller is the key one). Trestman et al are in the 1st class of 1st year head coaches, Marrone is in another with the hires of Rob Chudsinki and Gus Bradley. Wouldn't it be something if Bradley outcoaches Marrone next week? That would be quite depressing.
-
You can really see the inexperience in Marrones in-game management and Hacketts overall scheme and playcalling. Crossman perhaps has the worst track record of current special teams coaches in the NFL.
-
There is no accountability. We have had the same bone headed penalties all year that have killed us game in and game out. We lead the league in penalties that account for opposing teams 1st downs. This is the most penalized Bills team that I can remembe and one of the most penalized in the NFL. This team is also at the bottom tier (more) in fumbles.

Not maximizing offensive capabilities
BuffaloBillsForever replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marrones specialty is o-line and it is regressing. We play a vanilla offensive scheme to begin with and with a rookie QB 14 games in instead of advancing the scheme Marrone and Hackett are dialing back. We have one of the most explosive running backs when in space yet the offensive shcheme does not take advantage of this ability. This has been the most healthy team this late into the season and we are playing some of the worst football over the last 15 years.
