  1. "That is my last real memory of Al Davis: It was getting dark in Oakland, the rest of the team had already gone into the showers, the coach was inside speaking sagely with a gaggle of local sportswriters, somewhere beyond the field-fence a big jet was cranking up its afterburners on the airport runway. . . and here was the owner of the flakiest team in pro football, running around on a half-dark practice field like a king-hell speed freak with his quarterback and two other key players, insisting that they run the same goddamn play over and over again until they had it right." - Hunter S. Thompson
  2. Gene Kelly just tweeted: I'm singing in the rain!
  3. I totally agree this kid is a typical teenage goon, but he's also a goon who happens to be a member of one of two families that knows more than anyone in the world what the future may hold for the Bills. It's totally plausible that he overheard something and decided to tweet about it. The fact that his tweets and indeed his whole profile disappeared within like 24 hours certainly smells like damage control. Teenagers have a hard time understanding the scope and impact of their actions, and probably even more so when they're wealthy, highly-touted college football prospects with direct ties to NFL royalty and a couple thousand twitter followers. Or this could all be about contract talks with a new urinal cake distributor. Who knows. Maybe we'll know more this weekend. Question: For those of us who have left WNY, is this being covered or talked about ANYwhere in the media up there, or is TSW the only place breaking this story?
  4. But isn't that exactly what the CIA, freemasons and WWF (not that WWF, the other WWF) would WANT us to believe?? /runs away
  5. The point of the stat about the top five scoring teams is not that they're winning. Of course when you score more, you win more. The point is that none of those teams are in the top 10 for defense - so they are also giving up a lot of points too. Which emphasizes the main point of the article: high-octane offenses are in. You don't care if you give up 30. Just go out there and score 40!
  6. Usually when you see that, it has something to do with where a key player in the game is from, or where he played in college. For example, we'll sometimes get random Chargers games here in the Raleigh-Durham area because Philip Rivers played for NC State.
  7. Haha, me too. When he leaped into the end zone on that play, I was like "NOOO! Too much time left!" so glad it got called back and Belichick through a hissy fit about it.
  8. These videos are awesome, thanks so much for posting... We were at home with our 15-month old son, and it was a similar scene. He kept running around in circles screaming, even though he didn't know why. He was just imitating mommy and daddy.
  9. They're saying Vick is out 3-4 weeks, right? Heard that on Dan Patrick this morning. So Iggles just got more beatable. The Giants look terrible. Cowboys, who knows with Tony Roma's Ribs. I think the vaunted NFC East is going to be a lot less of a challenge than they would've been in the recent past.
  10. Well, it was fun while it lasted. See you all next year!
  11. Dan Patrick was also talking favorably about this Bills this week, how good it is to see them playing well, much like Detroit. Two old franchises with rich histories, cities with economic problems, etc, etc... It's cool, but also a little nerve wracking. It's like, OK... When is this all gonna come crashing down? We're Bills fans, so we know it will. It could be in the first quarter this Sunday, or it could be the final seconds of the Super Bowl in February, or any point in between. When the Bills finally do pull off a Super Bowl win, I think my head will explode.
  12. It took me a while to calculate this, but I found that over the course of 50+ seasons, the Bills have a perfect record, completely undefeated, in games in which they score at least one more point than their opponent. Both at home AND on the road. If that's not a mark of consistency, I don't know what is.
  13. Less, even. The spread will change over the course of the week. The Power Rankings will not.
  14. I actually work in educational fundraising at a big university. Trust me: They've already called him. Many times. The question is whether or not he takes the call.
  15. It's clear what Fitz may lack in physical ability he makes up for somewhat with his head. Yes, Chan may be the real football mind, but I remember a quote from him recently on how good Fitz is at synthesizing information. He only needs to be told something once, and he's got it down. The other thing I really like about him that's refreshing are his press conferences. You don't hear many pro athletes speak in complete sentences with fully-formed thoughts. I think I remember reading that he intentionally did NOT get a perfect score so that the only other guy to get a perfect score (some kicker who was also from Harvard) would remain the only guy to do it.
  16. I thought I read last year that the No Fun League was clamping down on crowd jumps, for safety, whatever. But they were going to "grandfather" the Packers in and still allow it in Lambeau because they've been doing it forever? Or something? Does anyone else remember that? Anyway, I think it's cool and a neat visual, but you gotta think.... All it takes is one psycho with a Swiss army knife...
  17. Sounds more like negotiation posturing to me. "No urgency" = "We're not giving any leverage." He is playing with fire if he's up for election this November. I do hope it gets done, though. I think it was pretty big of Ralph to come right out and say publicly: "Lookit, we don't need the Enormodome replete with nightclubs, restaurants, shopping malls and spas. All we really need are some basic repairs and upgrades to update what is basically a perfectly usable stadium." Sounds to me like he wants to get a deal done.
  18. Exactly what I'm thinking. It's because we're not noticing him that he's doing his job right now. Big test will be Ugg Brady and the pass attack next week.
  19. I wish him all the best, and he can certainly afford the best care there is, but a broken hip for anyone of advanced age is almost always followed by a decline. Hopefully his resources will help slow that decline and soften the inevitable.
  20. Oh no, what are their fans going to do? Shoot us?
  21. ESPN (or any of the other big outlets) doesn't care about reason, logic or objective analysis. It's about generating outrage, disbelief, more clicks (and thus more ad revenue) because "ZOMG look how some pencil-neck is disrespecting us." The only power rankings that matter are the standings. Go Bills.
