March Movies: Batman V. Superman, 10 Cloverfield Lane...
Dorkington replied to Mark Vader's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The acting of Eisenberg was really good, the way Lex was written and characterized by the creators not so much, if that makes sense. I wasn't a huge fan of how they changed Lex to be so eccentric, but they did, and Eisenberg nailed that. -

I have. It's a flawed movie, but I enjoyed it quite a bit, and I don't understand the hate, personally. There's some stuff that is cut together somewhat quickly and either needed to be removed, or expanded on, which ruins the flow of the movie... but there's also a lot to like, including the acting of the big three, and Luthor, as well as how well Snyder applies comic book panels to the big screen. -

I'm not saying its a runaway success, just that its not the extreme failure some are painting it. By the end of everything it should make about 900mil from theaters alone, and thats not including merchandising (WB owns DC and all the movie/merchandise/comic rights), home releases, or anything else. If BvS was the outright failure that people are saying, then JL would be delayed at the very least, so they can wait on SS (and possibly WW) results, but all indications are they are going ahead as planned. As far as re-shoots for SS, I'm not surprised at all, that happens quite often, and I don't see anything wrong with them tweaking things to get what they want. To me its not a red flag. Some good movies have had re-shoots, some bad movies have had re-shoots. Guardians of the Galaxy made Suicide Squad possible, and Deadpool's success means WB/DC can go back and do some things that maybe they were unsure of doing originally in Suicide Squad. I don't know, I guess I'm just not seeing the disaster everyone else is. I can understand a bit of disappointment, and tweaking things one way or another, but that's about it. I am a Batman fanboy though, so maybe I'm incredibly biased and talking out of my ass. -

It's at $570m worldwide on a production budget of $250m, its made profit. As much profit as they'd like? That's for them to answer. And yes, I'm aware that advertising is not part of the budget, but merchandising is also not part of the profit. and there was a ton of both. -

Would you rather players not take an interest in us at all? I'd rather be a player's 5th choice, than not a choice at all, personally. -

FWIW, Suicide Squad comes out in a few months, Wonder Woman has finished filming, and Justice League starts filming in 9 days. If WB was going to fire a bunch of people, or cancel their universe due to severe disappointment, I feel like we'd be hearing about something right now. -
WGR on EJ - will he stay on the roster as backup QB?
Dorkington replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A lot of interesting takes in this thread. I'm totally comfortable with TT/EJ going into the season. EJ is easily top third of backups, and comes relatively cheap, and has an extra year in the system. It'd be illogical to cut him, or trade him at this point. -

If you're consistently drafting top 15, then you aren't hitting on those picks, so you might as well trade back and work the slim odds haha -

The Director's cut of Watchmen is an example that comes to mind. Considering how much they're going to make off of merchandising and product placement agreements, I don't think the studio is disappointed with the opening. $400m+ worldwide opening is pretty huge. The critics were harsh on it, but the audiences have been kinder, and most everyone I know that's seen it, enjoyed the movie, flaws and all, and are excited to see it's universe expanded due to the high quality nature of individual characters within the film. Wonder Woman shows up, gets an applause in theater... that means people are going to be excited to see her own movie, for example. This movie is an investment by WB for the longer run, I can't imagine them pulling the plug on Justice League two weeks away from filming, because it missed an estimate by a couple million, yet still was record breaking in many ways. -

I really enjoyed BvS, thought it definitely has pacing issues. News came out today that the movie had about 30 mins chopped off, fairly late in the game, due to studio concerns. Extended version to be released on Blu Ray, which hopefully fixes some of the pacing. Either way, I'm gonna go see it again. Best big screen Batman, imo, and Wonder Woman was awesome. 10 Cloverfield Lane was a good thriller, but also not what I expected/wanted out of a Cloverfield movie... so I was disappointed, unfortunately. That being said, remove the expectations, and you have yourself a really good movie. -

We need a minimum two defensive starters out of this draft, and at least one of them to be probowl caliber, I'm thinking... but all the skill in the world won't matter if the schemes suck, so we'll see what the Ryan brothers draw up. I'm not expecting a winning record this year, unfortunately. -

Didn't know where else to put this, so I'll put it here... with Obama at 51% approval, I wanted to see how it compares at this point in his presidency to his three two-term predecessors. Kind of interesting the path each takes. Sorry the colors are horrible, Gallup doesn't allow for options there :/ -

Hopefully for his sake, he decides to put in the mental work. The kid clearly has a boat load of physical talent.
