Great question. Motive for the bounties in that instance is irrelevant in that it is money to be paid for physical injury. With the vast number of ways conspiracy laws are applied this is pretty cut and dry. It's ironic that RICO laws do not require motive. Knowledge of said individual's motive for the intended harm does not change the fact that another individual or group carried out the agreed upon crime for a financial reward. When people hear the word conspiracy they assume that all participants have full knowledge of the who, what where, when, and why but that is never the case in real life. It is the very definition of compartmentalization. The usual application of the law allows for greater leverage against low level participants to turn as a witness against the higher level conspirators.

Character and Talent, plain and unsimple
RealityCheck replied to Pilsner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's funny. I grew up as a sports fan but even at the age of 5 years old I recognized that pro athletes were merely doing a job. They weren't building hospitals or schools. They weren't healing the sick or feeding the hungry. And they certainly weren't contributing anything to world peace. It was always a kids game to me that was being played by adults. Big deal. The first time I saw a player get carted off the field I thought to myself that s***s, that guy just lost his job. I mostly remember players coming and going in many sports that were not all stars and when their careers were over nobody giving a dam. I have never in my life considered anything an athlete does in their sport as being heroic. I guess some people have to fixate on the fantasy instead of the harsh realities of what is actually happening before our eyes. that kind of warped perception gives us the posters that openly pray for Ralph's death to turn the team around. Simply warped. Oh yeah, we want character guys by the way. -

Warren Sapp files for bankruptcy

That partly explains why Dungy's Tampa-2 worked so well. Judging by some posters enjoyment of Sapp's financial situation I am beginning to wonder about the character of TBD. -

Dude, I think it's Hanover Fist from Heavy Metal, before the Lok-Nar took over of course. -
For all the fans that can't understand how athletes get in trouble with child support payments and debt you just caught a glimpse. 10 years from now we'll be asking "where did all there money really go?", and I hope someone pulls up this thread.

Why is Trent Richardson in Buffalo?
RealityCheck replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The word "complacency" was used in jest as a response to the bolded type in my response to Hondo's post. How did you make the false correlation that it was a summary of Nix' desire to fly Richardson in for an interview? It doesn't make sense at all. -
A Modern Day Case Against First Round Corners
RealityCheck replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is my biggest hope as well with this secondary. McKelvin at the nickel is night and day from playing outside. He's actually pretty great at it. -
The past 2 seasons we played man coverage most of the time until the offense would get into the red zone, in which we would play mostly zone. Wanny strictly in terms of coverages will use all the various zone schemes with much less usage of man to man. A lot will depend on how our personnel performs of course.

Where does Fitzpatrick Rank?
RealityCheck replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They are right about one thing. Defenses have found a way to slow him down. First you got to break his ribs. Then you knockout the center and both LTs and FredEx. It sounds easy enough but can they do it 2 years in a row. -

Complacency is born from either arrogance or laziness and catches up to everyone sooner or later. My post wasn't even directed at you in particular but you seem quite defensive for some reason. If your particular business is not vulnerable to too many surprises then I say good for you. I am just not familiar with many businesses that are not considering the US GDP as a whole is leveraged some 60 to 1 with massive inflation looming on the horizon to liquidate that debt. But hey, you have time to post here so life can't be all that bad. -

Why I think we must go OT in the 1st round
RealityCheck replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's keep in mind that Hairston played well before the high ankle sprain and was rushed back into the lineup. I am not saying he is our LT of the future but he has also not proven that he won't be. To say that we should get A LT in the 1st is awful simple minded. This team needs players not positions. #10 needs to make an impact in September, whoever that may be. -
Character and Talent, plain and unsimple
RealityCheck replied to Pilsner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's simple psychology. You want to take solace in the fact that your irrational obsession with a sport you don't play and requires your emotional and financial investment is played by men that you can identify with because you are living vicariously through them. To complete the fantasy in your mind you and others need to feel that these players are the salt of the Earth off the field to justify your obsession and connection with them as they are a fictional representation of the you that you will never be. When they screw up in life you are then incensed and self-righteous about it and once again have a mechanism to artificially improve your self esteem. I only ask for one thing. "Just win baby!" -
Greg Williams ...caught on tape....
RealityCheck replied to benderbender's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Given the short attention spans and the inability to process information from what we see when it contradicts what we are told in this country I am confidant that the NFL will continue to prosper in the foreseeable future. The notion that parents will start successfully guiding their sons away from high school and college football because of this story are being just as blind and simple minded as they were before the story broke. This revelation to you has been the cultural reality in college and the NFL for decades. If the players were willing to deal with it then for the improbability of fame and fortune then why would it change now just because the denial of a few armchair GMs has been lifted, for now. I suppose many will believe that this is an isolated incident anyways. Wait till a story breaks that NFL players are prescribed GH by their licensed physicians after their reconstructive surgeries. -

You are obviously at this point in time making an assumption on who released the audio. It does not matter who or when it gets released anyhow. It was released to the public and it is what it is. For many it will be quite educational, and this type of insight is long overdue. -
Why is Trent Richardson in Buffalo?
RealityCheck replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Judging by this thread it would appear that the concept of due diligence is not clearly understood. When properly applied you gain experience and knowledge at a more rapid pace and contingencies reveal themselves rather than the need to sweat details and assume unnecessary risks based upon assumption. Smart GMs assess players that know they will not pick or be able to pick to make projections for them hypothetically and then track their progress in the league. It is part of self assessing your abilities to make accurate projections on players. I guarantee that Cam Newton is being observed indirectly to self evaluate if they would have been correct in drafting him if he was available. If this concept is lost on some of you then you should really study it. It can vastly improve your own job performance or investments depending on the variables in play. Leave no stone unturned as they say. -

Claiborne gets a 4 in the wonderlic
RealityCheck replied to richNjoisy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Judging from your post I would almost guarantee that you would score higher than a 4. However, I would certainly guarantee that Claiborne could absorb a defensive scheme and it's corresponding playbook far better than you. For all of you mentally superior fans I find it amusing that many can't grasp what our defensive alignments actually are week after week and yet arguably the best CB in the draft is considered doomed in the NFL because of a Wonderlic score. The young man will get drafted early, he will get paid, and he will probably play very well for years to come. FWIW, the most brilliant guy I have ever been around when it comes to architectural drawings and running bridge work was borderline illiterate. -
