  1. This article is why the bills won't draft high or spend big on another LB. Alonso is the 3 down backer and in today's NFL you only need one. Got to get these extra DBs on the field with so much passing and when they come on the LBs go off. It makes no sense to invest a top pick or a lot of dollars in someone who won't see the field more than 40% of the time.
  2. No way he takes a 1 year deal, he will be in demand and IMO out of the bills price range for the two down rub stopper the defense needs
  3. fantastic news! let's see dareus and glenn next please - they've earned big deals and will only get more expensive/less willing to sign as they get closer to free agency
  4. Same old bills. I hope this isn't true but history says this team would be dumb enough to let a star go for nothing with no legit replacement plan in place.
  5. Interesting tweet this morning from Byrd: @jairusbyrd: Ascension to detail... Could be nothing, or could indicate a deal is close. One can only hope. Deadline to tag is tomorrow.
  6. Assume the following are off the board: Bridgewater, Manziel, Clowney, Watkins, Bortles, Mack and Matthews. That's 7, who's the 8th player off the board in this scenerio? Bit pointless to choose without knowing.
  7. tell that to the bunch that want a LB at #9 - apparently they think the bills play 3 LB's all the time! value in the top 10 (and in the cap) is in a player who will be on the field most of the time - and that's a OT or a WR (or a #1 LB, but the bills already have one of those).
  8. Rams want Mosley? According to who? This sounds like pure speculation, not fact.
  9. according to his twitter feed, he's spending time with his family, playing an abnormal amount of flappy bird, and attending super bowl week
  10. If Matthews or Robinson fall to 9 i do think the bills will pick a RT and I certainly think it's the right move. Pears was subpar and either of these guys would be instant upgrades. That would have an impact on all players on offense, opening holes in the run game and allowing more deep balls to be thrown (ie the offense marrone/Hackett want to run). This would also give insurance for a Glenn injury as well as leverage in negotiation of a longterm deal (which should start now by the way - there a lot of guys the bills should be trying to lock up now, but that's another story). The bills are clearly not going to spend big on guards, in free agency or the draft. I don't agree with this strategy but if they are going to employ it they need to throw more at the RT spot after investing a high pick at LT and big money at C. If the Matthews, Robinson, and Watkins are off the board i hope they move back and try to land Benjamin and one of the other tackles with the extra pick.
  11. Given the depth of this draft, I think a there will be a number of talented TE's available for the bills at their high 2nd round pick. My preference would to scoop up a sliding Kelvin Benjamin but a close second would be to take Jace Amaro or ASJ if either are around. That being said, Pitta would be a good addition as ideally any TE picked in the draft will slot in as the #2 until they can earn the snaps.
  12. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/Jim-Hostler-named-Senior-Offensive-Assistant/05116d85-73c7-4737-a6fa-5750de89b99f WR coach by trade but he gets a fancy title. was passed over by ravens for their OC job and clearly wanted out.
  13. He's worked for him twice before, don't be surprised if he does a 3rd time. Looks like a good fit for both to me.
  14. not surprising to see o'neil going, good sign that gunther cunningham is on board IMO
  15. you got it backwards - if the bills block o'neal then the browns will hire martindale. if o'neal leaves i would not be surprised to see gunther cunningham follow swartz from DET to fill the LB coach spot
  16. If O'Neil doesn't want to be in buffalo they shouldn't force him - it's a clear promotion and one the bills didn't want to offer/knew he wouldn't take. Let him walk and cross your fingers that Gunther Cunningham will come work for his old buddy a 3rd time. Weaver is another story - no promotion, no move, he can join him when his contract is up. Regardless of coaching changes, I don't see major personnel changes on the defense.
  17. Gunther Cunningham as LB coach? He's worked underneath Swartz twice (in TEN and DET), let's make if a third and O'Neil can walk if he doesn't want to be in Buffalo
  18. benjamin makes a ton of sense for the bills but they would need to slide down to make it work (or trade up from their 2nd to late 1st). his skill set and size is exactly what the offense is lacking, and when you throw in the EJ connection you really have a winner. who couldn't get used to seeing this in the bills offense? trade back to the teens to get benjamin and pocket a 2nd, and use the 2nd/2nd/3rd to land a run stuffing MLB (shift kiko outside) like skov or borland, a mean RT like richardson or kouandjio, and an athletic TE like ASJ or Niklas. i'd be very happy with those first two days of the draft. i'd love to see a road grading guard before the end of the 3rd but i'm resigned to the fact that the bills think they are smarter then everyone else and can find cheap free agents and wavier claims to man those spots (worked great in '13 boys!).
  19. sponsored by The Telephone....... "3 way call? i'm just trying to make a trade here dangit, not looking for any weird kinky stuff."
  20. First choice would be trade back for an additional second, but failing that, Robinson for me, big improvement to the line from day 1 and fills a significant need. Target a tall WR or receiving TE, mauler at G, and a run stuffing LB rest of draft.
  21. Rumoured to be less than both the packers and saints were willing to pay for him at the time, but buddy was too stupid/lazy/naive to shop him so he gave him away to the hawks. Only the bills.
  22. dareus won't be a free agent until '16 at the earliest - if they don't get a long term deal done before May '14 they will pick up his '15 option ($7M) at that deadline that being said, they should be busting their asses to get that deal done, not twiddling their thumbs. yes he's immature, but he's a player. the closer he gets to free agency (and even that $7M one year deal) the more tempting it will be for him to leave. leaving it until april to start talking will give away a lot of leverage.
  23. At #9, it just doesn't make sense to add a LB who will only see the field about 40-50% of the d snaps vs a starting RT or #1/#2 WR who will play 100% of the o snaps or a #1 TE who will play 75-85%. Return on investment is much better adding the offensive player vs a #2 LB. Would be a different story if Kiko wasn't around or they didn't play nickel/dime/3 safeties as much as the bills do. Agree with other posters who suggest the bills will address the need at LB later in the draft or via a moderate free agency signing (ala Lawson). I believe in the 2nd year of the scheme the run D will be significantly improved with very little changes required (new run stopping LB referenced above, retain Byrd, and just better discipline and tackling). Bills need to be aggressive in free agency and fill some needs (LB, at least one guard, tackle if possible) so they can take the harder to find guys in the draft (big WR with skill, athletic TE).
  24. he forgot marrone's number one need - special teamers!! there are going to be some head scratchers in the middle rounds, you watch if this team is serious about winning they need to address the OL in free agency aggresively. playmakers in the draft, trenches in FA.
