  1. JJason Brown as backup C/G, Jacob Tamme to compete for backup TE spot, and London Fletcher to compete with Shep for job (and ultimately backup and mentor after faux competition) - this team needs better depth. All of these signings should be cheap.
  2. i don't know why anyone would be upset with decastro at #10.........he is one of the safest players in the draft and would not only upgrade the starting RG spot, he would also upgrade the backup C/G spot with urbik sliding back.........when injury hits no need to reshuffle everything, which is a huge + as we found out last year.......wood is a huge question mark coming off that injury and i'd feel much better with urbik at the ready.......solid chance he's true BPA when the bills are on the board and i would not be surprised if they jump at him
  3. DEs Mario Williams (K) Mark Anderson (K) Chris Kelsay (K) Shawne Marriman (K) Alex Carrington (K) Danny Batten © Lionel Dotson © Spencer Johnson © Kyle Moore © DTs Kyle Williams (K) Marcell Dareus (K) Torell Troup (K) Kellen Heard (K) Dwan Edwards © Jarron Gilbert © Jay Ross © this is assuming no training camp injures, which is probably wishful thinking - shaping up to be some great competition as guys like troup, heard, and carrington will need to show alot to keep their jobs
  4. PTF say sapp's got the wrong guy: It’s our understanding that Sapp’s source is wrong, and that the person he identified isn’t really the whistleblower. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/21/nfl-outs-suspected-saints-whistleblower-on-its-own-network/
  5. https://twitter.com/#!/john_keim/status/182273148861947904 FWIW: The #Redskins are still talking to OT Demetrius Bell (well, maybe not right at this minute). Still interest. Other teams interested 2.
  6. standard procedure for the bills - they do this on any free agent visit
  7. bills made pretty clear with the meacheam visit what they wanted at WR - a speedster who can stretch the field.....braylon was never a burner and has slowed with age, don't think he's a good fit for what they need.......they got possessions guys and that is more what braylon is at this point that being said, plenty of speed in the draft i'm sure bills will be looking hard at - i think they can find a better fit there then free agency
  8. in this dried up free agent market, we're talking about depth signings, no one is going to break the bank.....bills can afford to kick some cash to anderson and still fill all those holes and while still having cash/cap space left over for draft picks and extensions.....but need to find the right match - no good to reach in free agency any more then the draft.......guys have to fit the system - and anderson clearly does i'd personally like to see the bills add depth in several spots on the roster to create some competition - everyone was banging on when the injuries hit last year that they should have done more to add depth.....well, now is the time, not october/november when the injuries pile up.......jason brown is a great backup C/G who is looking for a job and with wood coming off a major injury woudl be a smart signing.....manny lawson could be brought in to compete with kirk morrison for the starting 3rd backer job, he's a good cover LB which is needed in that spot......jacob tamme is better then the bills backup TE and has a good set of hands, would give a good push to smith and caussin (who are nothing special)....anything that is not filled now can be addressed in the draft (i.e. nothing exciting in WR and CB to me) but while there are vets it's time to get involved
  9. if he plays his cards right he might get the veal named after him Mario Williams Beef RIB-EYE Steak Grilled and Dry Spice Rubbed / “On the Bone” Grilled Onion and Mushrooms Potato Hash http://www.tempobuffalo.com/

  11. Gallery is a good interior depth signing, bills need to copycat and get Jason Brown in the door. Backup C is still a problem - we don't need a repeat of last year, now is the time to address.
  12. He's not on the same level as these two but another key free agent after next season is David Nelson. After seeing how much wideouts got this offseason need to get him locked up. Plenty of cash to go around, that isn't a concern. The bills won't have to choose who they can try to keep, they can afford them all.
  13. Would like to see Jason Brown in for a visit - a lot of people on this board wanted him a few years ago and he's a very talented center. We need some insurance there, he'd be a good get.
  14. The Merriman extension has been nothing short of a disaster. And now he's got a roster bonus due. With Mario in the fold and Kelsey and Carrington expected to stick around he might be on the way out. Of course, pro football being a bottom-line business, Merriman understands that there’s no guarantee he’ll be part of the Bills’ 2012 playoff push. On Monday, the organization must decide whether to pay the former Pro Bowl player a $1 million roster bonus or allow him to become a free agent. Merriman has played just five games since the Bills claimed him off waivers from the San Diego Chargers and underwent season-ending surgery on his Achilles tendon last October. The pass-rushing menace who led the NFL with 17 sacks in 2006 – the same year the Houston Texans made Williams the No. 1 overall pick in the draft – believes he has finally overcome a series of health problems that sent his career on a downward trajectory. “People have seen me play on one leg for going on three years now,” Merriman said. “So it’s gonna be a good season. People talk about our switch to a 4-3 [defense], but that’s not a factor. For the people who know football, the difference between a 3-4 and a 4-3 is whether my hand’s down or I stand up – that’s all it is. I want to stay. Whether I stay or not, honestly, that’s almost impossible to figure out.” sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-silver_mario_williams_stevie_johnson_bills_031612
  15. I think he'd be a good addition, as a backup MLB though. As last year proved this team lacks depth and he'd be an upgrade at that spot. His leadership and fire would be welcomed.
  16. i think buddy nix appreciates this line of thinking - he likes to find the diamonds in the rough along the OL
  17. competition is good, may the best man win - and the loser will still got tons of carries so it's really a non-issue anyway! as we found out last year, never know when a RB will go down for the season and really need to have that 1/2 punch.....certainly not an area to worry about for 2012, gonna have a good year there
  18. not gonna pay him all that money to cover - he's a pass rusher, that's what he does well, round peg, square hole spend a top pick there, can always use the depth and someone to build with going forward, but don't need to reach in free agency any more then the draft.........let's get levitre/byrd/jackson locked up, add some depth at LT, money can be spent in a lot of different ways
  19. barnett is going to see tons of snaps. shep is going to see tons of snaps. how many snaps does that leave for a 3rd LB? about 1/3 by my count. we'll be in nickel and dime plenty. i don't see the point in spending a ton of money on a 3rd LB when you can't offer him every down time. draft pick to push morrison makes sense, but a big ticket free agent makes none.
  20. not a fit now - we got big money committed at DE and merriman/kelsey/carrington/batten on the depth chart as well.......got no prob with a top pick being committed there, but the money can be better spent upgrading another position
  21. what if the bills don't address LT in free agency and a guy like clairborne, blackmon, or floyd slips to #10? got to cover that base, the pick needs to be BPA and to lock in on a LT is a mistake
  22. Id like to see a wr added in the draft - the remaining free agents just don't seem like real upgrades to me or don't fit the mold of what the bills need (ie a decent sized burner like meachem). Manningham certainly isn't that guy. Who are the big/fast wideouts draftniks?
  23. Need to get Jeff Backus in for a look. If he's healthy would be a good stop gap and allow full flexibility at 10. Backus, Hairston, and a draft pick (be it a first rounder or fifth) can then battle it out in camp. Don't want to box out a LT at 10 by giving big money to someone, or ignore it completely and be forced to use the pick on the position.
  24. i would like to see the bills add a vet LT to really open up the options on draft day. a guy who wouldn't require a long-term committment and could hold the job or, if someone pushes him, serve as a quality back-up. this would allow the bills the flexability to take a martin at #10 but also not lock them in there if the BPA is not a OT. likewise, it wouldn't box them out from taking a guy like martin as signing a younger guy to a long-term/big money deal would. on that note a guy i'd target is jeff backus from the lions. 34 years old, long-time starter, probably could be had on a 1 year deal to keep the seat warm. with the lions bringing mcneil in for a look backus must be looking around to see what he can land, bills should kick the tires (and as he's coming off some surgery, need to give a good kick, but i think he'd be a good fit).
  25. there is no "NFL rule" that says bonuses need to be amortized over the life of the deal. the bills choose to amortize bonuses over the life of the deal - they could take them against the current year cap when spent if they choose to (as they do in their cash to the cap system) but choose not to. hence, it is factually incorrect to say the bills don't amortize bonuses because they do. of course they also operate in a cash to the cap environment and count the entire current year payout (signing bonus, workout bonus, salary, etc) as a piece towards their cap to the cash number, but they choose to amortize the bonus over the life of the deal (and create dead cap money if cut early). as well, your example is unrealistic. if mario williams signs for 16M a year he will not receive 16M in salary the first year - it will be significantly less. just because the average value is X doesn't mean he'll be paid X each year. the deal will take in to account the upfront signing bonus and put some hefty numbers on the back end in salary (that can be avoided if he doesn't perform). doesn't take much to see a recent example of this - stevie's contract is backloaded as his salary the first two years is much lower then the last two.
