I don't want the Tampa-2 or his inability over the number of years to find an OC that can direct a potent, consistent offense. I like the guy but no.

NFL Black Monday for coaches and GMs
dpberr replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree 100%. I thought he should have taken the year off just to give him time to grieve and heal. And I hope he takes this opportunity to do that. -
We know Chan's a goner. Here's Ralph's list.

My top 3: Marc Trestman Rich Bisaccia Ray Horton -
You get the impression of a power struggle between Nix and Brandon.

Lose Either Levitre or Byrd and Bills Take Another Step Back
dpberr replied to box0life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Plenty of time for contracts. Long months of January and February to exchange proposals. You also have to factor in that if there are any front office/coaching changes coming, that plays a role in what players to keep. Besides, when it comes to contract negotiations, I never believe what is filtered to the media. It's usually done deliberately, almost always 100% false and always 100% done to seek perceived leverage. FWIW, I think the Bills keep both Byrd and Levitre so long as the players want to stay in Buffalo. -
I think OAK might keep the GM and can the coach because it's Mark Davis and well it's Mark Davis. I say DET with Schwartz because he's taken heavy critiscism for the undisciplined, inconsistent play of the team on numerious occassions and its considerable regression this year. I agree both would be unlikely.

Clayton is being really optimistic. I think it's realistic that both teams break out the bleach and disinfect. In Buffalo, I'm convinced Chan isn't retained and Nix retires. IN NY, I think Tannenbaum is a goner, and the new GM hires his own coach. I think this offseason is going to be an eye opener with plenty of franchises firing coaches/GMs. You've got NY, BUF, PHI, SD, ARI, CHI, KC and even TEN and OAK...as all possibilities, not to mention if the Ford Family is anxious in DET and replaces Schwartz.

Why isnt June Jones ever an NFL coaching candidate?
dpberr replied to Max997's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's a difficult man to get along with and has had very tenuous relationships with both Hawaii and SMU administrations and boosters for a variety of reasons. He's been successful but the bridges are all wired to explode. His offense has generally been figured out at the college level meaning it's 100% exposed at the NFL level. SMU played very well in the bowl game, and have...they've won consectutive bowls. However, the SMU defense and their running game carried the team more often than the passing attack. Sometimes that passing attack would barely generate 200 yards in a game. -
That's BS speculation on Pollack's part. Nothing would suggest outside a drive by comment like his that Ralph Wilson or the Bills for that matter are having money issues.

I think Chandler is a good TE that could be great. I think he's limited by the scheme and QB in the present. That being said, two good TEs are better than one.

4-3 Scheme: Our defensive's biggest need
dpberr replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. The Bills need a complete overhaul at the linebacker position. I don't care how they do it whether it's FA or the draft but that unit got dismantled in almost every game. -
Tony Romo has had an excellent career. In any other place but Dallas, he'd have a statue in front of the stadium a year after retirement. If he were available I'd try to get him. I'd then draft a QB too. If Green Bay can do it with Rodgers/Favre, I'd want a shot at doing just that in Buffalo.

Rumor only!! Involves John Gruden
dpberr replied to marauderswr80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd never ban a fan for a post like these. They are fun to read. I'd pass on Gruden for the same reason I'd pass on guys like Cowher, Billick, Dungy, etc. Out of the game for too long. I'd prefer a coach or coordinator that's already successful in the NFL. I for one think the Bills are an attractive franchise to coach at this point. It's got a dedicated fan base, a new stadium lease and renovations, it's shown a willingness to spend money, it's got some young talent, has a high draft pick, and the sky is the limit. -

This has a slight chance to beat one of this board's classic and dare I say one of its finest fables ever...George Seifert at the Airport. It really needs to take off to have a chance. -
The one, the only, Tebow thread
dpberr replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd take Tim Tebow, sure. Not as a quarterback though. He's a football player and an athlete. He's got the height and hands for the tight end position like former Qbs Riemersma and Novacek. -
I for one am happy to read his comments, especially about taking a team that is used to playing in the elements and putting them in a comfortable dome. I never understood why the Bills had to go out of their way to expand their fanbase. Win games and that fanbase expands itself. Americans are fans of winning, first and foremost.

I'll take Whaley. NFL is a young man's game. Let's see what he can do.

Urbik agrees to contract extension
dpberr replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the Bills will retain both Levitre and Byrd. I've always thought Leodis would be the odd man out. -
Your perspective is narrow. You don't have the NFL without the AFL. You conveniently omit the fact you're complaining about the play of a team that's in Buffalo and has been in Buffalo for decades under the ownership of one man, regardless of the fortunes of western New York or the city itself. It's alright that you have no appreciation for the long-term financial stability of a business nor the resolution of an owner to stay in the city. As Bills fan, you've never been subjected to the whims of the Bidwells, Frontieres, Browns, Modell, the York Family or the Fords or complete jokes like Wayne Weaver which leave cities and counties holding the bag for millions.

I'd argue Wilson is one of the better NFL owners. Hell, he was one of the architects of the NFL. Think about that. Guys like Dan Snyder and Jeffrey Lurie just come in with money and buy things. Wilson helped create. The team has always been in good financial position with little to no debt. The team has only known one city in its franchise history while the landscape of the NFL and the nation has changed, Buffalo *still* has a team. That's stability. He lended money to AFL teams that would have folded that wouldn't have even been around to be in the NFL. We've been sparred ridiculous stadium names. He oppossed that lousy old collective bargaining agreement. The state hasn't been held hostage for a new stadium or else. Despite having a mediocre to lousy product the last 13 years, the team has seen the Super Bowl. Four times. Some teams haven't even gotten to one. You all should be Lions fans. I'd take Ralph Wilson over Dan Snyder or the Bidwells or the Brown family any day of the week.

Who says Chan gets fired tomorrow?
dpberr replied to billsfan_34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If it's Nix's decision, Gailey will finish the season. Nix is too classy and has too much respect to fire him with two games left in the season. That sort of firing gets you blacklisted from coaching work from college to the NFL. -
Chan had one chance to keep his job...
dpberr replied to C.Biscuit97's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Eh, I wouldn't be too sure Chan Gailey is the coach of the Bills next year. I just don't think Nix reveals anything during the season and he's not going to throw the head coach under the bus. The team has suffered some epic demolitions, with a few at home. For whatever reason the Bills value the Toronto series and being dismantled 50-17 isn't a productive way to encouage a tepid crowd to come back next year. The team hasn't beaten a "good" team this year. ...and in year three, at best he can do is 7-9, a one game improvement. -
Nick Saban may want back in NFL
dpberr replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's one of those guys that's just a great college coach. That is what he does. He wins college championships. Despite that, millions of dollars and being adored by an entire state, he'll still desire to go off and fail in the NFL. I don't understand it. -
I think I know why CJ doesn't get on the field more...
dpberr replied to jonramz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You could get some pass protection and keep CJ on the field if the Bills went into the garage and dusted off the FB. And of course, we could always throw the ball less.
