Fantastic interview with Gilbride
dpberr replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My take: Keep the Patriots guessing from play to play, series to series. Adjust, adjust, adjust. To beat the kings of game and film prep, you've got to give them something they haven't seen you do. -
Idea about drastic NFL structure changes
dpberr replied to BuffalothruMyVeins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like tv shows, I believe a shorter season with fewer teams would improve the product. -
If world politics were the Usual Suspects movie, the Saudis are Kevin Spacey.

Nobody wants a Zoolander sequel. Everybody wants a Dodgeball sequel. Dodgeball is the modern era Office Space.

I agree. He wants to catch passes, not block all the time. I think he's an outstanding receiver. He will have no trouble finding work.

Dennis Thurman on defending the Pats (article from January)
dpberr replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This extended time off provides little room for excuses come Monday night. We've played them once and you've got film from the Giants game. -

Amen to that! Blueprint is right there. -
Tony Romo is back - Will play vs Dolphins
dpberr replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Cowboys are idiots. They have nothing to play for this season but draft slot to fix that defense. He'll run out there and get broken. Again. -
Thought it was either him or Colin Farrell.

You can't play a traditional defense against a team that plays no traditional offense. If you march out there and do exactly what you've done before thinking you're some kind of stonecutter and on the 1,000 strike you'll beat them with "your" predictable system that's gotten you two coaching jobs, you'll lose the game. You almost have to install a special scheme for the Pats and require your players to be smart and execute it. Absent a mortal day from Brady, we will lose that game because Ryan is predictable.

Likelihood of Keeping Gilmore/Darby Combo?
dpberr replied to spoogy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think the Bills will keep Bradham. He's not the kind of linebacker they need if they are going to stay with the Rex plan. I see the Bills taking a linebacker high in the draft. I think it's a reasonable hypothesis to see the Bills cut ties with Kyle Williams and Leodis to improve their chances of keeping Gilmore. I don't think Mario is going anywhere. -
Can't stop two star RBs. Bills 24 Jets 21

Is Rex stubbornly imposing his scheme on wrong players?
dpberr replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Patriot BIll is the scariest coach in the league because he has no "brand" other than beating everybody's collective asses. He uses whatever offense and whatever defense works best against his opponent. He has capitalized on the ego-driven coaches in the league that insist on "their" way without deviation. You can scheme and plan against the known. You watch Patriot games this year? Every one of their games is completely unique strategy-wise. The Spurs do the same thing in basketball. Popovich is not hesitant to change strategy whatsoever. Elite sports franchises have that in common. The only "brand" that matters is winning. The strategy is always flexible. -
Do the Bills still go QB in round 1?
dpberr replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd put linebacker as #1 priority. You need a quick linebacker with top shelf tackling skills if you're opponents are going to dink and dunk you with the quick short passes. I believe NB will be playing for somebody else in 2016. -
I have no idea why Ryan didn't take what Schwartz's defense did very well, keep it and sprinkle in some Ryan strategy for the things that it didn't' do well. Coaches are like any other manager who insist on fixing problems with their own special brand of "fix" completely ignoring the question of whether something is actually broken. I think the defense is a complete mess and it's all on the coaching. You pay guys a lot of money to pass rush and they don't. You have very confused linebackers as to what they should be doing. I think some of the penalties come from a panic and frustration of not knowing the scheme. I sincerely hope the coaching staff took the bye week to get things sorted out.

What caused the Russian plane crash?
dpberr replied to truth on hold's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I think the Saudi leadership feels it's position as the oil kings of the 2015 world greatly threatened by the Russians. Wheras previous Saudi leadership was more pragmatic, the current leadership is determined to push back Persian influence and increase its influence inside the Russian territory. I think the Saudis called in old markers on the West for Libya and that's been nothing short of a grenade going off in an enclosed space. They created ISIS to be their proxy anti-Persian army since state-sanctioned action would ignite a regional war that the Saudis want to avoid but everything has been a disaster with their plan. I think the West is weak on foreign affairs and the Saudis are calling in old markers again or threatening to go nuclear themselves - and we're getting roped into a burgeoning world war over freaking Syria of all countries in the world. They did not anticipate the meltdown of Libya, the refugee crisis or the Russians caring enough to intervene in Syria. They've rang a bell that can't be un-rung. The Saudis have done our dirty work for decades. And now they want something in return. It's inconvenient for the administration and the media because the Saudis are considered "allies". However, I see them as the wolf in sheep's clothing. -
What caused the Russian plane crash?
dpberr replied to truth on hold's topic in Off the Wall Archives
My vote for the cause. The Saudis. Decades long low intensity war with the Russians going back to Afghanistan, Chechnya, oil prices and now ISIS. I think the new leadership in Saudi Arabia is dangerously aggressive. ISIS will be held up as the patsy but I think the Saudis and the Egyptian intelligence services brought that plane down. -
I want to thank all of you for your $.02. I shopped Honda, Toro, Simplicity, Ariens, Husky after ruling out Craftsman, Troy-Bilt and MTD. I chose the Toro PowerMax out of the 4. I like the metal gears (most snowblowers have plastic gears inside them) and the unibody construction. Ariens was #2, Simplicity #3 and Husky #4. Hondas were out of my price range but I looked at them. Great machines, though. Now, I can assure all of you it will not snow this winter. I think buying a snowblower in an el Nino winter is unnecessary, but that driveway in a Christopher Walken voice always says "I dare you....to shovel me."

Bills fans rated drunkest in NFL

No reason for the NFL to serve alcohol inside the stadium outside of the cash grab. -
New Tenn. Head Coach: Mike Mularkey
dpberr replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Titans used to be one of the NFL's top franchises not too long ago. The worst decision they ever made was letting Floyd Reese walk. All downhill from that point. Jeff Fisher sucked at drafting. Good coach but giving Fisher control over drafts was a big mistake. -
Who's going to be the first coach fired this year?
dpberr replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Huge coaching carousel in 2016. I think Caldwell, Campbell, Whisenhunt, Pettine, Payton, Bradley, McCoy and Pagano are goners. Harbaugh and Garrett will stay. Tomasula is gone if the 49ers find somebody available that's better. My two wild cards for coach departures are Chip Kelly and Andy Reid. With so many college jobs open, Kelly can name his price. Reid, I see him retiring. I only see the Bills ditching Rex if the team *really* under performs - like a 5-11 season with a bunch of Jauron-esque blowouts. Unlike others, I don't see the Pegulas letting Ryan hang around just because of the contract. It's in their best financial interest to field a winner as soon as possible and if he can't get it done they won't hesitate to move on. -
Patriots; Greatest franchise ever
dpberr replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pete Carroll's USC juggernaut was at one time not long ago considered the greatest college football program in the history of college football. Now, it's relegated to a 30 on 30 documentary. That's where the Patriots will be. In the present, yes, you could argue that they are the greatest franchise the NFL has ever seen. In the future, after all the stories come out about all the cheating, espionage and gamesmanship tactics, they will be the Pete Rose of NFL franchises. Greatness forgotten, the cheating the only thing fans remember. What I dislike most about the Patriots is not the on field dominance of the Bills or the AFC East. What I hate most is that Kraft and Company will do anything to win and to make money and the NFL is along for that ride and that Kraft, a single owner in a sea of them, really runs this league and this business. -
Grantland was way above the general demographic that ESPN thinks is it's bread and butter. The level of technical analysis and writing style appealed to the college educated sports enthusiast that had interest in topics other than sports. Grantland isn't for the sports fans who enjoy former NFL players shouting at each other for an hour before kickoff. That's not a slight, just fact. The only times I find myself on ESPN was for Grantland articles. You could catch an interesting analysis of jersey sales or why a team does X and then catch an opinion piece on politics or movies. I'm not a big fan of Bill Simmons overall but he assembled some bright writing talent there. ESPN is a disaster. They paid too much for the broadcasting rights and selling their souls to the television companies has provided them less customers to watch very, very expensive sports to produce and broadcast.

This show is expertly written. I thought Billy Bob Thornton had one of his all-time performances on the show last year. This year, they've taken atypical choices (Jean Smart, Jeffrey Donovan and Bokeem Woodbine) for very dangerous, violent people. I enjoy how this show always has the violence "potential" on high. It can break out at anytime.
