Romney's ridiculous comments on 47% of Americans
Rob's House replied to fjl2nd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
There are some poor people as you describe, but they are few and far between. There's a reason none of us ever know any able bodied poor people of working age that are worth a damn in that situation for any length of time. There aren't many out there. -
Potential Chicago-area teacher strike
Rob's House replied to Doc's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
But the teachers need tenure to protect them against the wrath that would come from failing the children of all the powerful school board members who put their kids in private school. -

This just illustrates why democracy can never coexist with the welfare state. Global economic collapse is coming. Might be 10 years, maybe 20, 50, or even 100, but make no mistake, it's coming. -

But dude, some of those teachers buy paper and pencils for the kids. They should all make $250k. Cash. And add an extra month to summer vacation. -
I'm late to the party, so I'll just say this: Anyone killing people, or supporting the killing of people, in response to this movie should be exterminated from the face of the earth slowly, methodically, and excrutiatingly painfully. As far as I'm concerned all involved are sub-human excrement.

Potential Chicago-area teacher strike
Rob's House replied to Doc's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Lots of projection in there. I wonder what that means. Just a few points: 1. I don't like quantitative test scores as the method by which to measure teacher performance. There are other ways. 2. What does the A/C have to do with anything? Is that one of the demands of the strike? 3. The concept of tenure isn't new; nor are the concepts of slavery, racism, or genocide. <I can do BS hyperbole too. Tenure typically applies to those in higher education to protect those teaching politically unpopular curriculum from the administration, faculty, and the like. It's fairly odd to me that a 3rd grade teacher needs tenure. -

Uh, maybe. But I'm not taking her to my place, I'm not falling asleep afterwards, and if she asks my name is DCTom. -

We'll have to simply agree that we have a difference of opinion on tenure, although your approach is certainly more sane and reasonably than tomato boy's. I don't think people should get tenure, period. I've seen a lot of people in various professions who come out the gate strong and then after a few years get complacent and coast. I know of no other profession where people are insulated from their performance and, while I can see some modicum of value in it, I'd say the it is far outweighed by the negative aspects. And I know it wasn't your assertion, but the idea that urban teachers need to be insulated because of the pervasive problem of powerful people calling for the heads of good teachers that hold their kids accountable is a joke. That's reaching to the bottom of the bag to pull out the only shred of an excuse one can get a grasp. The internal irony that the teacher can't be held accountable so that the child can be, apparently escapes some people. -

When I was 19 there was this hot blonde chick named Denise. She had a tight ass, perky chest, and she was good to go. We were out at a party and I was about 12 deep when someone passed me a fat ass J of some bubonic chronic that made me choke. 10 minutes later I'm laid out in the front yard throwing up in the rain. Needless to say, there was no salvaging that one - she got away.

Democratic party platform does not mention God
Rob's House replied to Gary M's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I don't hate the man either. On a personal level I have great contempt for him, but I wouldn't say it rises to the level of hatred.. I mean, if he was on fire I wouldn't piss on him to put it out, but if he was playing in a puddle of gas I wouldn't light the match. -

Rob's House replied to truth on hold's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Apparently you guys not only fail to comprehend the distinction between income & capital gains; you also lack the understanding as to why foreign & domestic income should be taxed differently. And I'm not so sure you guys get the concept of windfall either. -

I'm sure you're much tougher than Mario. I'm sure when you smack a guy wearing a helmet, facemask, & pads he curls up in a ball. And I suppose you'd have cheered had he ripped the guy's helmet off & stomped on his head; I mean what's a four game suspension when you can show a bunch of Internet tough guys that you're not a cry baby. And FWIW, I always assume the guys who are quickest to criticize the toughness & manhood of these guys are the biggest pussies among us when they step out from behind the keyboard. -

I don't get why he should keep it out of the media. It's one thing if a guy gets away with one here & there, but if a guy's cheating all game & the waste of skin in the zebra costume doesn't do anything I think you should call him out. I think the criticisms of him here are mind-numbing. Perhaps you guys would be happier if he were content with his massive guaranteed payout & let it ride. This kind of stuff makes me think Bills fans deserve what we've gotten for the last 12 years. -
Potential Chicago-area teacher strike
Rob's House replied to Doc's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
If you could see me right now, I'm playing the world's smallest violin for all the poor put upon Chicago teachers. it must be tough. -
At the time I thought Manning would never recover from his neck injury. I have a similar injury & after 14 years it still plagues me. But after tonight I'd have to say Manning. I'm sure Fitz & Mario will both play better going forward, but it's rare you have an opportunity to sign an all-time great. Even if only for two or three years, it'd be a hell of a ride. Of course, he'd never have signed here anyway so the point is moot. Still, I'd like to see him win another SB so he can take his rightful claim to the title of best QB of the era & leave Irsay lying awake nights riddled with regret & tearing up to the sound of Cinderella pumping through his speakers.

I've never been more devastated by a football game than that game against NE. Not the Monday night loss to Dallas or even the SBs. That was the last time I let a football game affect my mood for more that a few minutes after the game. I still don't like thinking about it

Instead of burning our 1st on Tyler, at the end of the season we could just trade our 5th for Tannehill.
