Warm Fuzzies Over Televised Gay PDA
Rob's House replied to Rob's House's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
How do you figure? Can we stop paying homage to political correctness & just be real? EVERYONE, gays included, understands that there is a fundamental difference here. It's kind of like saying there's no difference between a woman wearing a bikini & a man wearing a Speedo - the Speedo is far more offensive. Imagine explaining it to your child. (And I'm speaking generally here, not necessarily to this specific incident. Explaining why a man & woman kissed is easy. Why two men are kissing takes a whole different level of understanding on the part of a child who's trying to make sense of something they really can't relate to and are just beginning to comprehend and constructing a world view about. -
Warm Fuzzies Over Televised Gay PDA

Both of these were addressed on the first page of the thread. -
I'm hoping this is false, but if true I'll find a way to be happy about it.

Warm Fuzzies Over Televised Gay PDA
Rob's House replied to Rob's House's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I didn't see the kiss. I just read the article and it pissed me off. The gist of the article, that the bowler seemed to endorse, is that it's wonderful that gay PDA is becoming accepted and displayed on TV. I really don't get what's so unreasonable or "intolerant" about my stance on this. -
I don't want one of AZ's coaches either, but turning your nose up at the likes of Lovie Smith on account of him getting fired is ridiculous. Plenty of good coaches have been fired before. IIRC didn't Bellichick get fired from Cle?

Warm Fuzzies Over Televised Gay PDA

Is this directed at me? If so I'd like to thank you for telling me what I do and don't have the right to be offended by. I can play that game too: you don't have the right to be offended by my post. I didn't break any laws. I'm sure you'd be ok with sitting your 5 year old down to watch Logjammers too. What? want to keep your head in the sand about broaching the subject with the kidlets? I know you're thinking, there's a difference between kissing and !@#$ing. Certainly. But we're talking now about degrees and to what degree you want to expose your children to what level of sexuality and understanding. -
Warm Fuzzies Over Televised Gay PDA

That's different because David Nelson's GF is hot. It's not the act that makes me uncomfortable; it's more the writer of the article who seems to have a highly satisfied case of the warm fuzzies over this. I've made it very clear that I have no problem with gay people doing whatever floats their boat. I have a gay cousin and I'm happy for her and her partner to do whatever makes them happy - I just don't want to see it. When I start making out with women in public (other than drunk in a bar) I'll wear my hypocrit hat. Another reason is kids. I'm not ready to explain homosexuality to my 5 year old. I love that people who preach tolerance are so intolerant of my decision to wait until she's old enough to understand things like this before they're thrust upon her. Also, as far as "root for gays", that's not to imply that if an athlete was gay it would be hard to root for him, it meant that this kind of "in your face" bull **** makes me less sympathetic of their cause. That's because you're a simpleton who never has anything of any interest or import to share. Run along, Sparky. There's a subtle difference between a normal kiss as the ball drops and swallowing each others faces in front of children. -
Warm Fuzzies Over Televised Gay PDA

I don't like the "in your face" aspect of it. Like I said, I don't like straight people making out in public either. Gay PDA is a little worse because it's abnormal (sex is genetically and evolutionarily designed for reproduction - man + man or woman + woman is a misfiring of that function). Doesn't mean there's anything morally wrong with it, and it doesn't mean gay people should be belittled, but it "is what it is" and it is more disturbing to the average viewer that straight PDA (which again, I'm not okay with either), and that's based on scientific studies (I don't have a link but I heard it on Dr. Drew). Any particular reason? Do you have something of substance to add? -
I remember taht. I didn't know if that was him trying that or Gailey calling plays better designed for Spiller, but I remember him looking really slow (too slow for the plays being called) and thinking he was done. Then a few weeks later I saw the Fred I remembered. I'm keeping my fingers crossed (and popcorn ready) for his return.

On one I think he got dinged in the head and dropped it in a daze; I give him a pass for that one. On the others I was really surprised b/c he's been pretty good about ball security in the past. Hopefully just bad luck. He looked pretty bad the first 2 weeks after hurting his knee, but he looked really good for a stretch there....before he got hurt again. His health is my only concern, but it's not like he had any major season enders this year. That said, I'd like for the FO to start looking to draft his replacement. Low miles or not, he can't have many more years left.

He's definitely up there. I tend to give the nod to Peyton Manning b/c of his keen pre-snap abilities and ability to produce consistently across several coaches, OCs, and now teams, but Rogers is definitely right up there with Manning and Brady in the top 3.

Hilarious Scarborough interview
Rob's House replied to dayman's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Tell me about this fringe. What issues is the GOP so far right on that it is "to the fringe". Scarborough is a pu$$y, plain and simple. I don't give two ***** and a good god damn who he represented or what he stood for in the 90s, I can see with my own eyes and hear with my own ears what this douche bag does and says. And that tells me that he's a gutless wonder trying incessantly to impress the lefties to show how "moderate" he can be. -
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/the-turnstile/changing-times-espn-shows-bowling-champion-kissing-husband-233141613.html This kind of **** really burns me up. I have no problem with gay people being gay, or living a gay lifestyle; it has no effect on me whatsoever, and I don't even care if they want to get married. But gay PDA is not the same as straight PDA, neither of which is terribly appropriate. This douche bag writer gets a warm fuzzy feeling watching two guys make out (he probably scurried to nearest bathroom stall and rubbed one out after seeing this) but I could do without his feel good "open mindedness". For the record, I considered drilling a guy in the face on New Years for making out with a girl in front of my kid. Get a !@#$ing room. And just because you like to push another dude's stool in does not free you from the limitations inherent in a polite society.

And I didn't want a woman who wasn't a tall, busty, swedish virgin with strong knees and a flat head, but at some point reality set in.

How do we use CJ Spiller?
Rob's House replied to HerdMenatlity1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You hit the nail on the head. -
Any idea what they'd want for him? I floated the idea of bundling Fitz w/ a pick or 2 in a trade for Smith earlier but it didn't get much traction. The theory is that he'd give them a veteran b/u who's significantly better than what they can sign off the street, and he'd probably be willing to renegotiate his contract to stay employed. Any thoughts?

Taking Alex Smith would be ideal. We've got great RBs & should be pretty good on defense. Smith can efficiently execute the offense, run for the 1st when the play breaks down, & is pretty good in the clutch. Since this is supposedly a weak QB class it seems to me the smart money brings in the proven vet so you can take your project QB of the future & develop him. As far as Smith's play pre-Harbaugh, I'm not concerned. He's learned how to play the position & as long as he's not misused he's not likely to forget how to play. I sucked at wrestling until someone taught me how. I don't still need him around to remember how to do it.
-
Warner was good with the Giants. They only pulled him b/c they had a high profile rookie waiting & wanted to get him on the field. They were winning before they made the switch.
-
Airman w/ Switzer comes to mind. Peyton Manning came pretty close. Others are questionable: Is Tomlin a great coach or did he inherit a great team? Is Sean Payton a great coach if he got Culpepper instead of Brees? Warner almost did it w/ Whisenhunt & Martz. But I get your point, you usually need to have both.

Strongly consider Pittsburgh's former coach!!
Rob's House replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
YES! -
This garbage about Reid ignoring the run is maddening. While he does pass more than most he often uses short passes to the HB in place of hand-offs. People who think we should hand off to Spiller 25+ times a game don't understand how to use a player like that. He's a home run hitter who is best utilized in draws, sweeps, stretch plays, etc. You need another back to consistently run between the tackles. He's most productive when he has around a dozen carries per game. What's important is using him at the right time & right way. Reid did pretty well w/ Brian Westbrook, I think he'd do fine w/ CJ.

I want a HC that would rather coach the players than make out with them. And I don't want to hear anyone slamming Chan for hitching his wagon to Fitz singing the praises of a guy who hitched his wagon to Kordell Friggin Stewart for 6 years. If this guy didn't have a Dick Lebeau defense and top notch FO to keep that roster stacked with talent no one would talk about Cowher. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good coach & I'd be happy to have him, but the deification of this guy is nauseating.
