IF Bills Are Truly THinking About QB In Draft
Astrojanitor replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you can guarantee Jeff Garcia will be available--might not be a bad idea -
Nope. The possibility of winning out the division games got everyone excited. I think we are now officially "playing for pride" (odd phrase I've always thought--is there a lot of pride in being a perennial loser?) with the season being over after last night.

Fitz looked pretty bad last night
Astrojanitor replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Completely right. jets were flying through that line. Fitz didn't have a second to think back there. There were some plays defenders were in his face practically as soon as the ball got in his hands. Granted Fitz is hardly the greatest QB we've seen, but the dude needs a couple seconds for the receivers to make their moves. The O-Line screwed us last night -
I think the excitement with Perry--at least my support of the guy--stemmed from the games being competitive. His two loses came on the last drive of the game. Jauron was much worse than that. But from last night's second half debacle I think we can officially declare the Fewell era to be no more than a stopgap. Though in everyone's defense, Fitz didn't have a second to think last night. Jets were flying through that line.

A Few Thoughts About The Game
Astrojanitor replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ha!! -
Ha! yeah, my math is sometime pretty embarrassing.

I agree 100%. People feel the only way to turn around the franchise is to load up with name brand people. But just recognizing a name does not immediately make a player/coach fit in with the team. I would say finishing above the dreaded 7-9 earns Perry the job. We are in triage here--have to stop the bleeding. Everyone wants a whole new team/staff, but that is unrealistic. If we can salvage some people it certainly makes rebuilding easier. Sweeping the conference or racking up a winning record? Why would we replace a guy who can do that? Granted this may all be a moot point. We could very well lose out with 4-11 record.

Sanchez is so erratic and our D is so INT happy--I can see another big win for us. However if Ryan is smart and chooses to keep things on the ground....well luckily I'll be at the bug jar watching boring local bands instead of the game. Rare moment of excitement for this team, I say 31-24 Bills win
-
exactly right, Nelson hopped behind the defender right before Fitz threw.
-
Total conspiracy theory...sorry dude. TO's numbers went up because 1)Fitz threw the ball to him and 2)Fitz throws the ball (crazy idea coming) forward.

Division still within grasp???
Astrojanitor replied to Lenigmusx's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just like the Chargers last year, a good flameout makes it possible. Surely won't happen, but it will make the next couple weeks exciting to watch -
Why haven't Modrak and Guy been canned
Astrojanitor replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
+1 -
+10!

improbable but not impossible. Similar situation with the Chargers last season and they pulled it off.

If (well when) we get mathematically eliminated I would want Brohm to play against the Colts. Surely their 2nd and 3rds will be playing that game--it would be a good indicator if we need to seriously consider spending our top draft pick on a QB or if we already have something worth developing.

Are We Watching The Demise Of The Pats?
Astrojanitor replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Demise in that even losing a game is such a shock it becomes national news? Yeah, I think that version of the Pats has been replaced with this new, more human, Pats team. I still doubt they are particularly worried about being obscenely successful though. -
Time Warner-NFL Network Bills-Jets Game
Astrojanitor replied to cuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just did the same--Channel 8 has nothing but their basic programming on that night. Luckily I have NFL network. But then my buddy's band is playing that night, so I'm night seeing it regardless -
Yes--I think in a few years we will regard Fitz as the guy who mentored our next franchise QB. We probably are stuck with him for another season as a starter, but that may not be a bad thing. With the chemistry he has with our WRs i can totally see him as getting us to the playoffs...but you'd be insane to think there's a Super Bowl in the guy.

Is It A Bad Thing For Us To Keep Winning Games?
Astrojanitor replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
not for nothing, no legitimate winning coach is going to come into a hopeless situation. We start winning and playing with passion--even start getting some national attention--all of a sudden someone like Shanny will be far more inclined to come here. And, as mentioned before by many many other posters, with our front office we could have the first 30 picks and still manage to put together a 6-10 club. I think winning, and being competitive, now serves as our best chance to attract the level of people needed to really make a championship team. -
Hines Ward disses Roethlisberger
Astrojanitor replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I saw that Hines Ward interview on NBC last night. Guy is a serious jackhole. I lived in Pittsburgh for about 6 years, Ward was treated like a god there, but I always thought he was a selfish douche. During the interview he hinted that he felt Ben should have lied about his symptoms in order to play. So incredibly selfish and irresponsible. -
Did Dan Marino really say that?!?
Astrojanitor replied to Golden Wheels's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Damn straight man! I hate this whole beef with "running up the score," are we expected the preserve the Dolphins feelings in the name of sportsmanship? If we're playing that game wouldn't be more insulting to sit down in the middle of the game, in essence saying "you are not worth our trying?" You get paid millions of dollars to play 60 minutes of football. If you don't want to lose by 70 points then maybe you should play better. if you want to preserve the health of your top guys, that's one thing. But don't stop playing, that's not what I'm paying my money for. -
It's not just one win, Fitz won 3 out of 5 (or is it 6?). Plus a rout on our biggest rival? Reason to be excited.
-
all I know is I doubt we would have won that game with Trent. Between the sacks not rattling his game, committing to those (very ballsy) runs, and the willingness to make huge throws, Fitz carried the team through the game. Trent would have been sacked 10 times, he would not have made the big throws, and he certainly would not have inspired the team to keep fighting. I'm beginning to warm to the idea of having a draft QB study under Fitz for a year while we see if we can't develop a serious long term franchise QB. Fitz is smart, can run, and has terrific chemistry with the WRs, especially TO. Fitz shouldn't be considered a solution in terms of a five year plan, but I think the last couple weeks shows that we should not be so quick to throw him under the bus. But yeah, can anyone honestly see Trent ever playing for us again?

Chances TO signs an extension in '10?
Astrojanitor replied to CosmicBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I sure hope he does stick around for another year or two. Now that he is actually being used he is becoming a game changer. 2 50yd+ TDs in 2 games? that's nothing to throw away for personal reasons. I think he likes being a big fish in a small pond, as it were. I would imagine a commitment to creating a playoff/super bowl team during the offseason will placate any of TOs other concerns. And, if nothing else, he has been charged up the last couple weeks. I think he's into it, and I say we absolutely try to lock him up. -
absolutely. I love the change in the team these last few weeks. if not for some stupidity, last week would have been a win and today was a terrific performance. Perry has been doing what we have been wanting a HC to do--the team is fired up, they are making big plays, 4Q has not been embarrassing. I'm not 100% willing to say Perry should be our guy as we work on the front office and filling out playing positions. but right now I am slowly warming up to the idea--let's keep an open mind has he works through the rest of the season
