  1. It's just the vague byproduct of McBeane crying wolf about "salary cap hell" when they really just wanted to re-set the roster. Now fans will be wringing their hands about paying a true stud player at premium position the market rate of $20M per year when they shouldn't.
  2. Agree with all except Shaq didn't play particularly well, IMO. He got a sack against the Lions reserve RT playing LT Donnal.....but prior to that he was pretty much stuck to blocks as usual. The one good pass rush he had against Stafford he took very wide to beat the LT(something Shaq basically never succeeds at) but it was a quick throw to the other side of field and dropped......so it's 2nd and 10......next play they pretend to chip Shaq with a TE but instead leave him unblocked and he runs upfield and the RB trots thru his vacated position for an 11 yard gain. It was like the OC had set Shaq up for that play with the play before by giving him the edge on a pass play where he couldn't impact the QB. IMO no plus grades for any of the DL. The Lions blocked them up well. Back 7 saved the DL.
  3. "Only" rushing 4 isn't holding back.........you gotta' get pressure with just 4.........and they didn't.........and the Lions had a lot of time to throw the ball. Where that lack of pressure really shows up is in the red zone........that's why their red zone defense struggled last season.
  4. Very efficient but the lack of pass rush is frustrating.
  5. Thompson's versatility might push the Morax or even Stanford off the roster. Lacy been playing with his dome on fire in the games.
  6. Yeah he went from the worst starting CB in the league to an outstanding safety over night. Just too bad he didn't enter the league in this era of "no leading with the helmet" his career could have been much different.
  7. The seemingly innocuous Edelman tackle was when it first became news but he busted his neck up the season before on a spearing tackle. It was initially reported vaguely as a "head injury". He came back and finished the schedule but his uncontrolled aggression(and a lot of his impact) was tamped as he nursed the injury thru the season. I know he has a different version of the story but he has his reasons. He should have had a long career but unfortunately he was a knucklehead early in his career and the NFL hadn't legislated the spearing out of the game. I don't like Landry but at worst this was just a case of living and dying by the sword.
  8. I look at it this way...........Aaron Williams was a dirty, out of control player for most of his Bills career. He had more than his share of dirty AF hits until he finally busted up his neck by spearing opponents. The Landry hit is technically illegal but it was hardly the kill shot people make it out to be..........Williams was just duct taped together at that point.........if it wasn't that week his career would have been ended soon after.
  9. He was a big Eagles fan that's why he signed there so I am guessing he ends up on Eagles PS.
  10. Not the most talent but potentially the best combination of talent and secondary specific coaching/scheme. McD is basically a secondary coach...........this situation is a lot like the special teams when Marv was HC.
  11. McD was the de facto GM in his first offseason. It wasn't only the first 4 top draft picks that were used to build this team from the periphery inward.........safeties Hyde and Poyer were McD's first UFA's. Doesn't fit the axiom most associated with success but for better or worse they began their roster re-tool from the outside in.
  12. I don't care one way or another about the kneeling. Kaep opting out of his SF contract was the dumbest contract move I've ever seen a player make...........it was utter stupidity. He walked away from $15M+ per year and now he's unwilling to come back and re-establish himself at a long-out-of-football backup rate.
  13. The 2020 WR class makes a first rounder off-table for Clowney to me. IMO WR is clearly the Bills most important need now and going forward..........job #1 of any organization is make the QB look good. And while the Bills should be able to buy a stud pass rusher in FA..........stud FA WR's will shun Buffalo like the plague even with a good QB, IMO............going to have to draft and develop like they did with Watkins and Woods. Orchard Park is just a place where you are likely to have multiple games every season where it's hard to put up numbers as a WR.
  14. Darry Johnson is shaping up as one of the best stories of this summer...........but edge rusher is second only to the passer in team value. You don't pass on a stud QB because you have an obscure prospect put up a Peterman-esque preseason. Similar with edge rushers and you can actually play 4-5 of them in a game. Nothing should preclude the Bills from getting a stud pass rusher to line up opposite Hughes(who is old enough that you can't even guarantee that he will be able to maintain status quo as a pressure guy).
  15. This board is hilarious with all the "he/they would never do that" statements. "Beane wouldn't trade valuable draft capital for a player who he has to give a big contract......he says he builds thru the draft!"............and yet he had the best offer on the table for Antonio Brown. "Josh Allen won't ask for market value at QB! He's too nice of a kid"...............Brady is about the only QB to take notably less to keep a team together.........plenty of nice kid QB's eventually want to get paid what they are worth.
  16. Is it even possible for a 28 year old player who has never played the RB position in his life to make an NFL roster with this complicated of an offense(as far as RB responsibilities)? Maybe he's just that smart that he is learning from watching but he's pretty much a liability if he isn't on top of blocking and receiving assignments. I assume he hasn't been playing much because he is just getting by on raw ability at this point. I see him as the equivalent of a track star who comes to camp and just runs 9 routes..........you gotta' see all the other stuff before you can keep him on the 53........and if he were doing it right in practice it seems he'd be out there more. It's not like Marcus Murphy and Sinorise Perry are studs taking carries away from him.........they might be reserves in the CFL let alone the NFL.
  17. So you do realize that 6 of those 8 players were acquired in year 3 of McDermott's regime.......no? They drafted a CB and WR in rounds 1 and 2 in draft #1. They drafted a QB and MLB in round 1 in draft #2. That's not building "from the lines OUT". I know you are caught up in pre-season giddiness but at least tell the story right.
  18. I'm encouraged by their preseason performance but that is the exact opposite of what McBeane did. And that's probably a good thing. Buddy tried to build from the lines out..........succeeded in doing that.........but failed to turn the team into a viable long term contender because building the lines at all cost ignores the fact that it's a matchup league and you need a QB and you need excellent players at the high $ positions to win in the modern NFL.
  19. The first preseason game of the Marrone era was against the Colts and the Bills came out in no huddle with EJ the rookie and looked great. This board was giddy as hell. You guys are just too concussed from decades of losing. Short term memories are gone. Can only remember the 90's and earlier.
  20. Glad to hear that the Malone family has taken in Da'Mattress.
  21. Yeah that clears it up........the author is using US grading context. Usually if you produce sub 60% test scores.....sometimes even sub 65%....... in the US they don't bother differentiating beneath that..........you just get an F.
  22. I think dave is pointing out that there is a lot bigger divide between the two than you appear to acknowledge. You are basically saying Bucker is a 79-80 grade and Shaq is a 69-70 grade..............they aren't that close to this point.............Buckner checks a lot of boxes that Shaq has not.
  23. teef got gay jokes. More insight into our resident creepy family dentist and his 80's sense of humor.
  24. Did Buckner have 2 "bad" years? I think he had 2 modest seasons but he was available and making a ton of tackles for a DL. I think bad is an overstatement. He was a higher ceiling prospect than Shaq but I think Shaq was considered closer to his ceiling on arrival. And that's the way it appears to be playing out for Buckner at least.
