If they decide to replace Edmunds in the middle it will likely be with a veteran at this point. They are a SB contender they won't want to be breaking in a young player at that position. The Ravens did that last year by selecting Patrick Queen in round 1............and he was terrible.....and getting him that year of reps to break him in hurt them.

Nah. Dangle the free agency carrot...........if he plays great put the franchise tag on him. Only $2M difference and you don't have to fully guarantee the money 18 months in advance like you do with the 5th year option. God forbid he gets hurt this year and can't play in 2022 and they have a $12M cap hit on the books and no way to reduce the cap hit.

Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment
BADOLBILZ replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Your opinion and criticism of posters for expressing an opinion........when you don't really have your own regarding players drafted......... would carry more weight if you weren't defensive of every regime the Bills have had since Butler left. Instead this is just the 6th GM you've defended since then and the only one who the argument could even be made that they've done well. 1 for 6. That's a Gary Sanchez-esque .167 batting average. -
Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment
BADOLBILZ replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A- Yeah I don't have a "firm view" on Doyle either but I like getting an athletic OT there. I liked Wildgoose. Otherwise about the same feeling. Basham is the one I don't "love"..........but as I said, I felt all along that was the spot that they were most likely to be left without excellent relative value on the board........maybe Beane trades back and they find a better player..........but maybe his hustle and attitude elevates him above his tools. -
RD 7, Pick 8 (236): Jack Anderson, G (Texas Tech)
BADOLBILZ replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Job #1 of the organization is to keep Josh Allen clean. They've spent A LOT of money on their lines the past few seasons........think it's pretty clear that they want to be both better and less financially invested on those lines. And I agree with the person that said the heat was on Cody Ford. -

Bills were attached to Anderson during the draft process. This pick was not surprising at all. Very versatile and experienced. Sounded like he was more like a 5th round target so this seems like nice value. -

Fits the Tre Adams mold.....lotta' talent but lotta' medical concern.........I expect the Bills might pursue him in UDFA if he's still there. -
RD 6, Pick 28 (212): Damar Hamlin, S (Pitt)
BADOLBILZ replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's Jaquan Johnson-like and Wildgoose reminded me of Dane Jackson. They seem to have a type in their late round safeties and CB's. These 3 picks are why I liked trading back. I often had Wildgoose as my round 6 guy. I like Stevenson in round 6 and Hamlin is decent value as well and fills a need. -

As aeshetically pleasing as it would be to fill that spot with a draft pick...........the fact that I'd rather have Snacks Harrison and that he's a league minimum level free agent kinda' puts it in perspective for me. I am also interested to see what happens AFTER this draft..........I expect more releases and obviously more free agent signings....and maybe even trades...... than ever before immediately following a draft in the next few weeks. -
Bills trade pick #174 to HOU for two 6th round picks
BADOLBILZ replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good point about the undrafteds..........and there aren't going to be as many good ones this year because the number of players in this draft is very low..........so the Bills were going to be doubly pressed to get any of the few coveted UDFA's that are available because there are less and because agents won't see a place with a lot of openings for their clients to make the roster. -

I disagree with them also........but there is literally nothing less productive than following day 3 of the NFL draft while not having your own opinion on it. -
Bills trade pick #174 to HOU for two 6th round picks
BADOLBILZ replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I said it in the other thread version of this..........I think they will have 2 shots at the same quality of player in round 6. Of the hundreds of mock drafts I did, round 6 always seemed to be one of the better rounds for numbers of players I still liked and the draft really isn't playing that far off from what was expected. I've never bought into the "none of these picks can make the roster" talk........it's not the 1991 Bills roster......there is plenty of room for competition. 3 picks in round 6 and 1 in the 7th is nice. -

I like it. I think they will get similar quality players in the 6th as they would at 174.......now they get 2 of them. -

I like him because the Bills don't have a big and truly fast WR on the roster. Not the most likely WR left to make good in the league, but a need IMO. -

Not a big Basham fan.......but not bad value in round 2. Seemed to me that round 2 was always going to be the round in this draft where it was going to be hardest to get the kind of value you expect. I'm not surprised that he might have been the only player on the Bills board that would have prevented them from trading back. He's not real toolsy but he brings energy and an edge......something they seemed to lack without Lorax. -

Raheem Mostert is, rather clearly, faster. But Breida might be next. -

Shi Smith would be appropriate.........he is the Gabe Davis of this draft for me..........that receiver that I don't want to like and never mock draft to the Bills..........that I know is probably going to be really good. -
I'm not a big fan of Basham, but I've felt all along that round 2 was going to be the spot where it was going to be the hardest for the Bills to get value relative to what round 2 usually yields. No matter what mock draft site I used there were usually only 1-2 guys still there when I picked that I really thought would be good value..........and in the actual draft NONE of those guys were there. Basham is not real toolsy IMO, not at that size at least, but he plays hard and brings an edge, which I think is an underrated need for this defense. They miss the intensity of a Lorenzo Alexander and he seems like that kinda' personality. If he hits the Shaq-ometer ceiling of Melvin Ingram........it will obviously have been a great pick.

RD 1, Pick 30: Greg Rousseau, Edge (Miami) Public Poll Added
BADOLBILZ replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are a hater so you only remember things that I post that you perceive are negative. You remember me not liking the Sammy Watkins trade, but not that the only player from that draft class that I actually advocated drafting was Aaron Donald......who at the time was seen as a "meh" first round option by the board, with a lot of skeptics. I actually started a thread, which is rare, got like 10 responses and that was it. Wasn't seen as a "need". Obviously, he turned out to be the best player in that draft. If I had started a negative thread at that time it could go on for weeks. -
Harrison Phillips played much better towards the end of the season..........I expect him to be back to his 2019 form when he was clearly outplaying Star.........but he is another one who isn't very impactful. Zimmer is just a 3T.......he can't play the 1T or NT effectively. Butler can play both. Contrary to popular belief the second half of the season defense was quite good against possibly the Bills toughest schedule in decades........not sure what a 32 year old Star has to offer at this point. Bills can't cut him because of the dead money hit, but they could IR him and just eat the rest of that foolish contract. I agree that they pick up a DT in the draft yet or in UDFA. Damon Harrison would be a big improvement over Lotulelei too and he played for around $2M last season.

Star and Addison are the least valuable. Bam Johnson is really good on special teams and a breakout candidate so I don't see him going. They can rationalize Obada as both a 3T and DE. Zimmer is an energy player that I don't think they will want to let go. This is kinda' where keeping Addison and Butler didn't make a great deal of sense.........but I see them keeping 10 DL on the 53 anyway.
