I'm probably not as down as you and others on McBeane.........likely because I knew from the outset that the ceiling on McDermott was to become something like Bill Cowher.........a culture definer but not a particularly innovating or clever mind(like Belichick or even a Doug Pederson, for example)............so there were likely going to be irritating, demoralizing playoff disappointments. But in fairness longtime playoff chokers like Cowher and Andy Reid didn't get better until much later in their careers when they had both experience on their side AND the HOF type QB. McD was blessed to have Josh break out in year 3 for McBeane regime but I think he and Beane are still learning on the fly so Allen isn't getting the same benefits that Roethlisberger and Mahomes got. But it is what it is......they gotta' make better decisions than the competition to expect to beat the competition. And while they've drafted well........I believe they have more games started by own draft picks than any team since 2017.........they haven't drafted great so it hasn't been enough to offset their plethora of terrible pro personnel/free agency decisions. They have been truly awful on the pro side. If they get better at those things.........as they should and would be expected to considering they are so invested in their "growth mindset" approach.........then they can elevate in the same ways that similarly oft-criticized, slow starters like Cowher and Reid and Howie Roseman did in their jobs.

He interviewed for the OC position in Baltimore..........yes, there are a lot of vague factors to consider but why not lead with the most obvious...........he wants to go someplace where he is likely to advance his stock as an OC. Is that under SB winning, long time Andy Reid offensive assistant Doug Pederson with up and coming Trevor Lawrence and a fully stocked WR corps? Or with McDermott, under Dorsey(who has neither Reid nor Shanahan system experience) with Joe Brady already the likely successor should Dorsey move on? Seems like a pretty basic career move. His stock isn't likely to increase in Buffalo next season and by moving on he shows he is ambitious.

Very nice interview with MG.........he and his spotrac company provide a great service to fans. The Davis for Evans swap makes a lot of sense..........puts Evans back on a contender and sends Davis home to Florida.........but that $14M cap hit is harsh and the little that I watched Evans this year it seemed like his heart wasn't all the way into it. Still put up big numbers but the Bills would need to do a lot better dive into his outlook for 2023 than they did with Rodger Saffold. Still can't figure out how Saffold got $6M when he probably should have been bouncing around practice squads this past season. When Ginitti was asked to be critical of one of Beane's cap moves he couldn't come up with one...........but Saffold was definitely one. Agree with his point about interior OL generally being the best position to extract value from in UFA though..........been saying that for years.........there are usually good guards and centers available for very reasonable cap numbers...........which is why you don't draft them high. Just can't pull a Saffold. Fill premium positions early in the draft.........use your free agent dollars on the cheaper, and typically better stocked positions..........that's how you keep your cap in order. Miles Sanders...........don't really care to spend that kind of money on a RB..........but he makes a good point that a 1200 yard RB might come with just a $6M-$8M cap figure..........it's just crazy to expend a first round pick on a RB. That pick should go to a position, which should it pan out, can actually yield a $25M-$30M aav type player(in 2023 cap dollars).

Here is the link for this season to daily live and archived box scores for the Yankees...........and all their affiliates.........from AAA to the Dominican Summer League: https://www.mlb.com/prospects/stats/affiliates?teamId=147 Two pitchers showed up injured at camp..........and surprisingly Injurino wasn't one of them. He already got tazed tho With Montas likely done for the year and the Yankees passing on inexpensive, proven arms like Michael Wacha for the back of the rotation because they don't want to pay the Steve Cohen tax(which they are just under)..........if German and Schmidt don't look good..........there will soon, inevitably, be questions about whether they should bring in 2020 NL Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer for the $720K minimum. Here is a good run-down on baseball's most controversial player: Update: Trevor Bauer heading to Japan to pitch the 2023 season. It's the best deal for him. Gets some innings in against a Triple A+ level of competition.......doesn't have to pitch for free in MLB where anything he earned would have come out of his Dodgers money. Japanese society a bit different so perhaps not as critical about his consensual BDSM relationship that went wrong.

Bills sign S Zayne Anderson to a 2 year deal
BADOLBILZ replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, I don't get it at all. I know that isn't what Chiefs fans are like.........we generally hear a lot more good than bad from Bills fans who visit Arrowhead. There is some inconsistency with this board versus what the general WNY Bills fan is like...........it shows up in things like the extreme hate for Rob Gronkowski or Jerry Sullivan........which isn't nearly as exaggerated in WNY as it is here online with so many ex-pats over-defending Buffalo's honor. But I expect it's a lot closer to the average fan in The Ralph and Highmark than that forum. -
Bills sign S Zayne Anderson to a 2 year deal

Man.........that forum reads like the transcript of a wiretap at a crackhouse. I'd heard it was bad but wow.......yeah. -
It's not luck that they are blocked by Mahomes..........they were blessed to have him fall to their draft slot. But they handed him to an AFC rival that was further into their development........to move back and ultimately add part of the draft capital needed to select Tremaine Edmunds. That all-time kinda' draft day mistake put them way behind the curve..........and then incredibly lucking into Josh Allen falling far enough to select him......when Allen would have been the #1 overall pick in more drafts than not the prior 15 years.......is the only thing that's got them within striking distance. Luck isn't what they need.........they just need to execute their offseasons better and finish the job. Yes they had some unfortunate circumstances really help derail them earlier than it should have this season............but ultimately the build in the offseason was also flawed and it showed up after the bye week before the storms/Von/Damar even happened. Get the right pieces and they won't need a lot of extra good fortune.

I think we need to be practical here.........someone has to step up and take over as new chief linkster...........the next man up would be the obvious choice........and you are also a fellow Bills + New England pro sports fan like the predecessor. Otherwise..........maybe @Big Turk?..........he's been working the links to keep us updated on the board. Linkster by committee?

Bills sign S Zayne Anderson to a 2 year deal
BADOLBILZ replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
You don't sign veteran players to 2 year deals at league minimum........so I think we aren't going to like the reason. -
I find it interesting that they interviewed the Denver WR coach. Any smart GM with a contending team and a WR need has to be thinking about how they can find their version of the AJ Brown deal.

Khalil Shakir / answer for WR 2 / Makes Sports Illustrated
BADOLBILZ replied to Figster's topic in The Stadium Wall
Shakir should get more snaps in the same respect that Gabe Davis got more snaps as a rookie...............which is when the WR2 is out or when they go 4 wide. Davis actually played 73% of the offensive snaps as a rookie.........almost 800 snaps...........I think people believe he played less than half the time and was on a crazy 1,000+ yard pace or something if he played most of them........and that really wasn't the case. The WR2 in 2023 should be someone in the stratosphere at least of Tee Higgins...........which John Brown was, in his own way, when healthy early in 2020 as the opposite number outside to Stefon Diggs. That first month of 2020 was probably the most dynamic they've looked with Allen. I like Shakir a lot but in an IDEAL scenario I think he develops into a Hines Ward-esque of guy for the Bills..........Ward was a guy who took a few years to develop into a stud receiver but was productive when called upon and did a lot of dirty work the first few seasons. People who think you should just go Shakir now gotta' recognize that Davis is likely gone after this season and you have to plan for Diggs to lose a step by 2024 at least..........even if we presume Shakir is a starter in year 3 and 4.............WR still needs to be addressed with multiple quality chips this offseason. A UFA and an early draft pick, hopefully. -
They took a significant step back personnel wise on offense...........2021 Sanders and Beasley were a declining but still productive duo of reliable veteran receivers that wasn't replaced and the maligned Daryl Williams was a league average starter at RG in 2021 who was replaced by a terrible Rodger Saffold and the move also caused Bates to flip to the right side and he didn't perform as well. And yet, Dorsey put up as much overall production as Daboll had and was more consistent until the clunker in the playoffs versus Cinci. People forget that Daboll's inconsistency as a game planner and play caller contributed greatly to the team losing 6 regular season games in 2021.

Bills 2023 Offense Like This With Adam Henry Signed As WR Coach?
BADOLBILZ replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall
Maybe(?) he will be next year..........but he wasn't last season..........he had 700+ yards on the ground including a couple 100 yard games and the same yards per rush as Saquon Barkley(4.4). Important to remember that James Cook needs to get at least 60% of the carries.........he had elite per play numbers and they spent a premium pick on him last spring............so a vet minimum 230# back with above average production on the ground would be plenty in the #2 role. -
Quote from Josh highlighting the Bills' flawed thinking...
BADOLBILZ replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't know what they said.............but they haven't tried to be like KC. At all. Yeah........they need to be more like KC. And I saw you are among the people who keep banging on this Creed Humphrey drum..........Basham has sucked(predictably0...........but center is the only position the Bills are solid at both starter and depth at on the offensive line. So that line of thinking makes no sense.......they literally already had both Morse and Bates in house. The Chiefs didn't have a center under contract..........because they did what they always do..........they let their starting center Austin Reider(who had performed solidly in 2020) walk in UFA. Just as they had done with star centers Rodney Hudson and Mitch Morse immediately prior. -
I think the market will be a late #1 plus something else. It's not a great WR draft like when Minnesota traded Diggs so I suspect Jeudy to have a value like Diggs. Giants make a lot of sense and they have an earlier pick and are out of conference.........both pluses for Denver. But if the Bills hire the Denver WR coach they will surely know what Denver really thinks of Jeudy.
-
Barkley literally was the complete package at RB. Robinson lacks the speed so that's why he isn't likely to actually go top 10 like Barkley. Either way...........both are ultimately just runnin' bax............it doesn't pay to invest big chips like early picks and big money in them. People were going ga-ga over Barkley last year and he barely surpassed the league average per carry and his yards per reception was a ghastly 5.9. Singletary and Cook obliterated Barkleys' per touch numbers. And that's all that matters in the end.........which is why a graphic like the one that @gobills404 posted exists.

So reading between the lines.........you're thinking Ohio State?
-
If you can get Jerry Jeudy for that 27th pick..........knowing you have one cheap year and a 5th year option left on him........do you make that deal? My guess is with there being less sure-thing WR's they might be able to get a higher 1st rounder........but I also don't know how the league views Jeudy or his attitude/coachability etc..

Cardinals down to Bengals DC Anarumo or Eagles DC Gannon for HC?
BADOLBILZ replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in The Stadium Wall
I heard he just doesn't interview well -
He could probably go full cat-eye if he moves to NOLA but the endorsement money is in NY

Right now there are 10 running backs who ran for over 800 yards in 2022 scheduled to hit UFA.............plus another in Joe Mixon will join them when he's likely cut. Probably the most loaded UFA class at one position since the advent of UFA. Bills probably won't be shopping in the top 10-12.........but the next 10-12 producers are all worthy of splitting carries with James Cook and should be $3M cap hit types. If you get a Kareem Hunt or Raheem Mostert in late March after the first wave is over........are you still drafting Bijan?
